Seth has a hard time believing things even once Jethro comes to him. He listens and he implements what Jessa and Dhiren suggest he do to prepare for the upcoming war but he doesn't truly believe that he needs to do so.
That stays with him until he watches as Jessa and Dhiren along with their guard spar with his men. As he watches them, and his men watch them, he changes his mind about the ability for one person to succeed like the rumors suggested. He also swallows heavily as he sees the fire in their eyes as they fight so hard.
A voice comes to him, one that he doesn't recognize. "They are incredible are they not? It makes one wonder, if they didn't love each other then just how nasty it would be." The female voice would normally be enough to make him look to see the stranger next to him.
"Yes, it does rather." He says softly and he notices that his men are staring in shock. He has no doubt that they will do even better after watching the two strangers fight.
It isn't until Jessa has her sword at Dhiren's throat and drawing blood that the two stop fighting. "You still have it, love." Dhiren says smiling. The same move that she won against him so many years ago was the very one that she used once more.
Jessa smirks and helps him stand up. "I hope that it's still there. We'll need all the help that we can get in order to win this war."
They come over to the king as the others start sparring once more, this time listening to Kallen's words. The improvements are immediately apparent in their fighting techniques.
"Jessa, Dhiren, King Seth, let me introduce you to Queen Risa." The sudden appearance of Alaric startles them all and then it's Alaric's turn to be startled when he finds a knife to his throat. "I've warned you about this before Alaric. You know better than startling me like that."
By now all eyes are on Jessa and Alaric.
"Excuse me, who are you?" Seth asks the man that Jessa holds her knife to.
"King Seth, this is my grandfather Alaric." Jessa says simply.
Seth blinks rapidly with a blank face at Jessa's words.
"Grandfather, Jessa, I didn't know that you had a grandfather with your retinue." Seth says more than a little confused. He took the time to memorize the faces and if possible the names of those accompanying the princess.
"Seth, may I present my grandfather Alaric. Alaric this is king Seth. However, I have no idea who Queen Risa is." Jessa says but still doesn't take the knife away from Alaric's throat.
"Queen Risa, she is the Queen of the Brass dragons. She has come to talk to you and King Seth about the upcoming war."
"It is nice to meet the one that is the object of all the rumors floating around. I hadn't put much stock in any of them. It seems that I need to rethink my thoughts on that. As well as my thoughts about having my subjects join in this war.
"Tell me, Princess, did you indeed kill the kings?" Risa looks intently at the gold dragon princess as she demands answers.
"Yes, as a matter of fact, I did. The blue years ago at the battle that started so many rumors and then just a couple of weeks ago for the others. The war is real, the fight will happen, the question, Risa, is will you and your dragons fight with us or on your own?''
Risa looks long and hard at the gold dragon princess that has so many rumors about her. "It truly is that dangerous?"
Jessa laughs bitterly, "I'm going personally to talk to the stupid ass sun elves to get them ready before the war begins. They will be wiped out if they don't listen to me, to us. The question, Risa, is will you and your kin as well or will you fight with us and give them a chance of survival as well?"
Risa looks troubled at first then hides her thoughts. That is until Alaric decides to join in. "The others that have met up with Jessa have already sent their young, females and eggs to Silva. Some only did so after their deity had to come and yell at them to do as they were told. I know for a fact that you have also been instructed by your goddess to do so. Will you be as stubborn as they were?"
"The brass dragons were never as stubborn as the bronze dragons before, but things could have changed since I last talked to them." Another new voice intrudes.
This time all talk and action has ceased as all eyes are focused on the newest addition to the courtyard. One that barely fits and has actually moved some of the people from their feet.
"Ancient One, to what do we owe this visit?" Jessa's voice isn't all that welcoming and has a bit of a bite to it.
"Time is getting limited. Besides I have a spell that you need. You will need the help of the little ones to win this war. They won't be able to learn how to be quiet on their own. If they are willing the spell will help them learn how to be quiet so that they might be able to help by spying and relaying messages. They will likely be thrilled to participate in this war. They were rather disappointed that they weren't able to help us out in the last one."
Jessa sighs and closes her eyes counting down to help her reign in her temper at this time. The Ancient One and Alaric both watch her intently.
"What do you think, Ancient One?"
"She's doing far better than we had hoped. But she isn't likely to have many other fights between here and Lexin to let off her steam." At those words Jessa's guards and even Kallen and Dhiren sigh internally. It's still going to take another week or so to get to Lexin. That's if they leave their merchants here and just take the horses. It will take at least two weeks or more with and if Jessa continues to get more irritable it will make it very difficult to be around her.
"Is there room for another?" Jethro says before stepping into the only cleared space left.
"Well, I guess there is if you are there." Jessa says flatly.
Jethro looks at Jessa pleased. "Well, you aren't nearly as bad as I was expecting. I remember Reniel when I first met him. He and your mother had been separated for nearly a week by that time and he was worse than a bear with a sore tooth. Damn near disarmed me before I was able to tell him to get his ass back to my temple and marry his lover."
Jethro chuckles at the looks Jessa and the others are giving him. Especially Alaric and the Ancient One. "Reniel loved your mother, Jessa. It took him less time to change and fly to my temple than I could get myself back. I don't think I've ever seen a dragon fly so fast in my life. Not even those colorful pests the prismatic dragons."
"Really?" Jessa smiles for the first time with that information. She surreptitiously wipes the tears from her eyes. She knows so little about her parents. Every thing she learns about them is so precious to her.
"Jethro, do you know the name they had chosen for Jessa?" Dhiren asks the human deity.
Jethro smiles with a wicked look in his eyes. "Yes, of course. It is her name of power." Jethro says softly. Jessa looks at him shocked for the first time into speechlessness. The name that isn't told to any one, not even their nearest and dearest.
"I owed it to your mother to do that much for her. I hope you like it, Jessa." Jethro says smiling softly at his great daughter.
Jessa gives herself a shake and then throws herself into her great father's arms. Jethro wasn't expecting that reaction and so it takes him a second before he returns her bear hug. "Thank you, Jethro."
Jethro replies something that no one else, not even the Ancient One can hear. Pulling back he turns his attention from Jessa to the human king. "Time is short. Send out the orders for the plans that were made with Jessa and Dhiren. You don't have much more time."
Jethro turns once more to Jessa. "You are doing so much more than I could ever have hoped for. Just know, no matter what happens that you are well loved and even many of us deities are on your side." Jethro then nods to Dhiren and smirks at the other dragons especially Alaric.
Alaric and the Ancient One narrow their eyes at him until he leaves as quickly and silently as he came.
"Jessa, what did Jethro tell you?"
"He said that if I'm not careful that I'll become a deity just like he did. He's rooting for me to become one."
Jessa looks lost, a look that not even Kallen has ever seen on her before. "What in the hell would I be a goddess of?"
The remaining people there are speechless and unable to reply to her words.
The Ancient One and Alaric once more take on a calculating gleam and a smug look before the turn once more to the astounded Queen. "If I were you, Risa, I would send your people to Silva as you were instructed now by not one but two deities. The first of which was your own. My sister is rather irritable at this time and if she is forced to deal with you, you won't like it." The Ancient One says and gives a visible shiver along his entire dragon length. It was rather frightening.
Jessa looks at the Ancient One thoughtfully. She had never before seen him in his full dragon form. He was incredibly beautiful. Dhiren leans over and whispers in her ear. "He reminds me of you, Jessa, when you are in dragon form."
"That's because she is very similar to me." The Ancient One states blandly.
This earns him narrowed eyes from Jessa. He takes the time to change from his dragon form to that of his human one. There is a universal exhale from all those in the courtyard as they once more are free from being nearly crushed by the ancient dragon.
"The lineage of all dragons comes from their deities. Jessa is descended from me just as she is from Jethro. Her dragon is most like mine than any of her fore dragons. Reniel took after Alaric. Alaric's other children took after those that he flew with."
Jessa and those not of dragon heritage just blink as they take in the information they just received.
Dhiren is the first to understand. He looks at Jessa in awe. She truly does outrank him.
Alaric and the Ancient One are able to more or less follow his thoughts. Alaric snorts. "Yes, my granddaughter out ranks you, Dhiren. But that doesn't matter at this time. You knew that before."
"Yes," Dhiren says doing his best to regain his thoughts to say them in a way that Alaric would understand and Jessa not get upset with him about.
"I of course knew that she outranked me before we got married. I just didn't realize just how far she was from me."
The Ancient One snorts, "Not so distant now. You are infused with my blood in order for you to make the change. You are a descendant of mine as well now."
Unnoticed to them all darkness had fallen and one final goddess decides to join them. "Yes, he is now equal or nearly so to Jessa's rank." There is no ignoring the rather smug tones of the elven goddess as she states that.
