"Princess, you've done well. Congratulations on your marriage to Prince Dhiren." Jessa is startled by the female voice that talks to her. She whirls around and finds Lady Fay.
"Lady Fay, I certainly wasn't expecting you." Jessa hasn't seen or heard from her since she made her judgement on Jasper.
Fay smiles sadly at Jessa. "Forgive me, for startling you, that wasn't my intentions."
Jessa doesn't speak just motions for Fey to continue.
Fay gives her another sad smile. "I thank you for wanting to warn my champion. Trouble is coming one way or another. Your decisions once you are in Castlerock will be the catalyst. The old king is dying, not entirely naturally either. Your decision on what you do when you go and see the king will decide the fate of Castlerock and the people around here, including the elves."
Jessa manages to hide the fear her words bring. She has a plan, but if the prince doesn't accept her help then the elves could die. Her parents and siblings, Nathan's children.
"The champions are in place, the question is what move are you going to do?" Fate asks her, genuinely interested. All others she knows what they will do, but Jessa she doesn't. She doesn't know which road Jessa will take.
Jessa allows her confusion to show, "Champions?"
Zira shows up and gives her older sister a cross look. "Dhiren is mine, Nathan had been Jethro's. Jasper is my sister's. You are the Ancient One's, but I think that Jethro still looks to you as his. You need to meet my brother, he is the god of the sun elves."
Suddenly there is a male there and he gives Jessa a thorough appraisal. When Jessa has enough she narrows her eyes in anger and sneers at him. "No wonder the high elves are so damn arrogant."
The male rears back as if she had smacked him. Zira and Fay manage to hide their responding smiles and amusement. Zira is especially happy with Jessa's words. Her brother has always been arrogant.
The male sneers right back at her. "I am resting my hope on her?"
"You are if you want your children to live, or at least some of them to survive." Zira answers coolly.
"You have been shown the fight she had against the ancient blue dragon king and his minions." Fay manages to say just as coldly as Zira. There is little love between her and her younger brother. He keeps trying to take over her spot as queen of the gods. He doesn't think that a female should have that kind of power.
It's the same attitude that his children show.
There's good reason why the high elves, or sun elves are considered arrogant even by other elves.
Jessa keeps her opinions to herself.
"I don't believe that she did that on her own."
"You are such an ass. I damn near died twice from the wounds I received that day. My best friend and champion of Jethro did die that day. Don't you dare speak to me. Get the hell out of here." Jessa says seething.
The male deity narrows his eyes at her disrespect and suddenly he's attacking her. Jessa, used to the down and dirty fighting of the guards after hanging with them for years, wasn't caught unaware.
So for the second time that day she gets to fight full out. But this time she's not holding back even the little bit she had with Dhiren.
The male deity finds himself at the point of her knife at his throat. His weapons having been disarmed. It's actually reminiscent of the first time Dhiren and Jessa had sparred. Jessa is ready for the countermeasure if he tries it.
He doesn't.
"Do you concede, Kaiston?" Fey asks her amusement now very evident. "You were warned that she is a fighter. There is a reason that she is now considered Jethro's champion and the Ancient One let him share her in that capacity. There is a reason that she is the Ancient One's champion as well. She hasn't showed you that part of her yet. I wouldn't push her to it either. You've managed to piss her off pretty damn well already."
Kaiston glares at his sister then turns his glare onto Jessa. Through gritted teeth he states, "I concede."
Jessa remains where she is and doesn't remove her weapons. If anything she presses them down even further. For the first time in his life Kaiston knows fear. It is unlikely that Jessa would be able to kill him, but she might be able to actually wound him seriously.
"Jessa, I know he's an ass, but would you please allow my brother Kaiston to get up?" Zira asks gently from behind Jessa.
"I respect you Lady Zira, but I'm not sure that I can comply with your request at this time."
Kaiston looks to Zira and Fay with terror taking over his eyes.
"Jessa, is this then your decision? You are going to take out a god?"
Fay's cool words work when Zira's hadn't. Jessa rolls back to her feet as she puts away her weapons. "No. I won't allow this ass to make it so that I destroy this world instead of try to save it."
Fay looks at Jessa as if puzzled. She had a god at her mercy and backed off completely. Jessa could have demanded a great deal for her to do so and hadn't asked for anything.
"Are you sure that Reniel is your father?" Fay asks puzzled.
This of course just upsets Jessa and she turns her ire towards the elder goddess. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Zira is holding her face in her hands. She can't believe how her siblings have handled Jessa so far this night.
"I mean, any other dragon wouldn't have allowed Kaiston his freedom until he granted them a boon."
Jessa sneers as she looks back at the male deity that is straightening his clothes and doing his best at hiding the shaking that Jessa caused him. She snorts in derision. "There isn't anything I would want from him."
She turns back to Fay and Zira. "Now, how about you get to the point of this visit so I can actually get some rest before journeying to Castlerock."
Her question wasn't really a question. Fay is unable to fully hide the shiver that runs over her body at Jessa's words. Zira does a much better job of it.
"We are here, Jessa, because you are at another one of the pivotal crossroads in your life. The actions of what you say and do will change the course of not just Castlerock, but potentially all peoples."
"Lovely. Nothing's changed about what I plan to do, so why have you bothered me?"
Fay gives her a half smile, "I wanted to thank you for what you've done for my champion, Jasper. Also for anything you are planning on doing to help him."
"Uhhuh, yeah, okay. Lady Zira, why are you here?"
"Oh, I just wanted to see how things go with you and my siblings."
Jessa nods then turns her head to the male, "Lord Kaiston, why the hell are you here if you are only going to insult me?"
Kaiston freezes like deer do when they sense a predator nearby. He swallows nervously and flicks his eyes to his sisters before returning to Jessa. "I need your help. I need you to speak to my people and get them to form an alliance with the silver and gold dragons. It is their only hope of surviving. They may have stopped listening to me, but it doesn't mean that I don't still love my children."
"I had already planned on making a wedding trip to the High elves with Dhiren. I will be going as an emissary of the gold dragons as their princess, not just the moon elf princess."
"Gold dragon princess?" Kaiston says disbelief heavy in his voice.
Jessa gives him a very cold smile before turning back to Zira and Fay. "You two didn't tell him who my parents are?"
The two females shake their heads with smiles of their own.
Jessa takes a deep breath and lets it out in a drawn out sigh. "My father was Reniel, crown prince of the gold dragons, my mother was Rachel, high priestess or high cleric to Lord Jethro human god of war, warriors and healing.
"I was raised by the moon elves by General Kallen Brightblade and his wife High priestess Sorid Brightblade.
"My grandfather is Alaric the king of the gold dragons." Jessa says bored with this conversation. "Have you enough information now?"
Kaiston is more than a little impressed and is hard pressed to hide it.
Zira wanting to make him even more uncomfortable adds in, "She is also a direct line descendant of Jethro."
That's enough to get Jessa to throw Zira a dirty look before turning back to Kaiston. "I think I'm done here. Please leave." Jessa says as politely as she can, she's more than a little angry and annoyed at the deities ruining her sleep. She can think of far better things to be doing if she can't sleep.
"Please, Princess, help my people." Kaiston says foregoing his pride and begging.
"I will do what I can, I had always intended to do so. I will say though, that if they are worse than you, I will likely be insulting the lot of them and hurting their pride."
Kaiston shrugs, "Better hurt pride than them being dead because of pride. Teach them a lesson in humility. They definitely need it, but I don't want them to die because of the lack of it."
Jessa gives out a humorless chuckle. "Oh there will be no doubt about it. I will give them a lesson in humility if they dare to treat me anything like you have. Now will you all please leave so that I can have at least a couple hours of sleep tonight?" Jessa has gotten good about being able to keep track of time even while dreaming and so knows that she doesn't have much time left.
The other three finally depart and Jessa falls into a deep sleep without dreams or pressure. She smiles happily.
