Jessa's head is spinning by the time her birth parents have to leave. She tells them good bye with tears in her eyes. Once they are gone she turns to the Ancient One. "Thank you. It was the only thing that I was missing for this special day. I have longed to know if they would have been proud of me."
"You have made all of us proud, Jessa. All the golds that are near here are aware of what you have done and what you have gone through. They are as proud of you being their crown princess as they could a full blooded dragon. You have accomplished more than most of them and they have, for the most part, lived two centuries or more.
"You have fulfilled your duty to your people in a way that they consider a handicap. They are almost afraid of when you take your dragon form that you will be too powerful and will desire dominion of them." The deity tells her.
Jessa rears her head back at those words. "Me? Hell no. It makes me sick at the thought of ruling next to Dhiren let alone taking my place as the princess of the gold dragons." Jessa shivers even as her face takes on a sickly cast.
Frosnak had come up and listened to their conversation. She snorts in derision, "I have never met a dragon least likely to get power hungry. The lure of gold and precious objects is nearly nonexistent in her. It's unnatural." Frosnak shivers at the thought. All dragons are drawn to money, especially gold, and precious objects. It's part of their genetic makeup. Yet, Jessa is more than happy to keep up the work that Dhiren started to help the poor. She says the yields aren't money but how the people have a better life. Which in turn helps the city.
Castlerock isn't the same as it was the first time Jessa stepped foot in it. The poor section of town is not nearly as run down and the despair doesn't weigh as heavily. There is still suffering and those that are having problems just having enough to survive, but with the programs in place that Dhiren and then Jessa put in place, they are few. Mostly those that have no desire to be more than drug addicts or those that are addicted to alcohol. Jessa makes sure that the children of those people are able to get the schooling and food that they need. She wishes that there was more that she could do for them.
There should be more, but the human king still refuses to do shit to help his people. He's enjoying the extra taxes he gets from the previously poor now earning enough to live. He doesn't know or care that it's actually elves that have done that for his people. He still hasn't realized that the elves own him and his city. His councilors either haven't figured it out or they have intentionally kept him in the dark.
Jessa and Dhiren have both talked about it and figure that his councilors have likely kept him in the dark intentionally.
Dhiren has told her that the prince is a decent sort but he's so isolated that he will never learn the truth. The human court is a sea of dangerous predators and if the prince puts his trust in the wrong person he'll be killed before he takes the throne.
Dhiren is sure that there are many in the court that are decent and would help the prince, but he doesn't know how the prince will find them.
Jessa has thought about that extensively but has had no way of getting to the prince. She has a possible way to help the prince, but it is dangerous. Could even be deadly and she would have to warn him of the potential danger before she would be willing to give him the help. Not to mention the potential problems it could give her.
"Come, Jessa, they are feasting and we still haven't eaten. It has been a long and emotional day for us both, but especially for you." Dhiren tells her pulling her from her thoughts and back to her wedding night.
Jessa smiles, "Forgive me, Dhiren."
"Nothing to forgive."
"Got lost in my thoughts. We should go join the others now, I guess." Jessa isn't looking forward to it. It's been so long since she's had to deal with the majority of the elven people that she doesn't feel comfortable doing so now.
"It will be fine, Jessa. The majority of the people already admire you. After the battle they even more fully accepted you. There is nothing to fear from them." Dhiren tells her as he holds her to his side.
Jessa takes his hand and threads her fingers through it as she leans against him. "Let's send some of the food out to the guards from the caravan I came with."
Dhiren smiles at her and nods. As they come to the feast Dhiren talks to some of the elves that are serving food and they quickly get some food together in boxes for them to take to the humans waiting in the camping spot that have been set aside for the caravans Jessa brings through.
Dhiren and Jessa lead the elves to the camping spot. They find the humans up and looking towards Silva. Many of them are confused but they see Jessa and relax. "Jessa, is there a celebration going on?" Josnick asks her as they come into the light.
Jessa smiles at him and nods, "You could say that. Actually there are two. It's the celebration for Lady Zira tonight and also we are celebrating mine and Dhiren's wedding."
Josnick is shocked but recovers quickly. "Congratulations you two. If you had told me ahead of time, Jessa I would have gotten you two a gift." Josnick chides her a bit.
Jessa shakes her head, "There is no need for gifts, Josnick. Indeed, we have a gift for you and the others." Jessa motions for the elves carrying the food to come forward. "I realize that it's late for most of you, but I would like you to share in the feast celebrating my marriage. Please, accept this food."
The guards put down their weapons and head over to where the elves are setting up the food for the humans. Then they make their way over to Jessa. They each give their congratulations on their joining.
Dhiren notices that more than a few of the males are disappointed at her words. The males had always given Jessa interested looks but she never paid them any attention.
It is very late by the time any of the humans settle back down although Jessa and Dhiren return to the celebration after they accept all the congratulations from the guards.
It is late when Dhiren and Jessa turn in as well. "This isn't my room." Jessa says looking at the room. She had been half asleep as Dhiren directed her into the palace.
Dhiren chuckles, "No, love, this is my room. Well, our room now."
Dhiren helps her get ready for bed. But by the time they actually make it to the bed, Jessa is no longer tired enough to sleep. It doesn't take Dhiren long to capitalize on that.
