Several days later Nathan is wondering if it was such a good idea, accepting the prince's work like he had. He's being pushed harder than he ever imagined in sparring against the weakest of the elves in Dhiren's guard, Kristoff. Nathan is aware that Jessa doesn't think much of Kristoff's abilities and so does his best against Kristoff and still fails each time.
That's when he realizes that he really needs to step up his game. He determines to do the best he can and so he spends hours sparring long after the others finish up for the day. Sorsha is usually the only one that stays behind and gives him helpful hints and goes against him when he needs a partner.
Jessa watches from the sidelines as they practice. She steps in when she sees a need to do so and has Sorsha go against her so that she can show Nathan what it should look like. When she does that Nathan watches closely. Jessa watches as Nathan catches on with just one telling or showing to correct him. She is sure that Jethro is helping him gain the skills far more quickly than he other wise would do.
Jessa is more than a little thankful for this. Because of that she decides that she will go with Dhiren and Nathan to visit Jethro's temple. She owes him many thanks for the help she's been given in the past and the help he's giving her friend.
They go through the bazaar and as always Jessa is enthralled with the items. She finds one that catches her attention. "Guys, hold up, there's something that I wish to take a closer look at." Dhiren stops since he wants her company, but Nathan stops since she is his charge, so to speak any way.
Jessa moves closer to the stall, a blacksmith showing off his work. She looks over the weapons and for the most part doesn't see anything to inspire her. Then she sees the sword. It doesn't have the same look as a human made sword, but neither does it look elven. She picks it up and it hums in her hands telling her that it has been enchanted. She knows that if she has time that she'll figure out the enchantments that it has. The power she feels tells her that there is more than one spell laid on the blade.
She practices a few movements with the sword in hand and is pleased by the balance and weight of it.
The blacksmith looks at the female wielding his sword and wants to smirk, at first that is. The more he watches her the more he realizes that she knows what the hell she's doing. When Jessa sets it down he talks to her about it. "It's fine sword made for a master wielder."
"Perhaps, but not for me. I like the balance and weight, but the weight is made for a man, not a female."
"True, but you don't seem to be having any trouble with it." The blacksmith tries to keep her interest, failing to note the amusement in Jessa's eyes. She loves to dicker and lower the prices that merchants have.
"At first that is true, but if there is a prolonged battle against bandits then it would easily wear me down long before the over all fight ended. That would leave me defenseless."
The blacksmith snorted his disapproval to her words. "I seriously doubt that, you are well trained and not just in weapons. Your body is a weapon and it shows in how you move."
"True, but still, I have a blade of superior make that serves me well. One that is made for me and not a male." Jessa nods towards the weapon. "That weapon will serve some male quite well. It is also enchanted, which enchantments are placed on it?"
"The first one is one of ownership, it will recognize it's owner and not strike against him in any form and will return to him. There is a second enchantment of eversharp, it will never need to be sharpened or nicks removed since it won't be able to be nicked, not even by metal. It is damn near impossible to harm that blade. It is made from the finest adamantine."
Jessa looks at the blade and wishes that she had the funds with her for what this blade will cost. Dhiren's blade is an excellent one, but she believes that this one is even finer than the one that he carries.
"How much?" Jessa says even as she lays it back on the counter and takes a step back.
"One gold and three silvers."
"Indeed, such a fine blade deserves such a price, alas I have little in the way of coins. I don't have near that price." Jessa says then with one last longing look turns and moves to walk away.
"Four silver and ten copper." The blacksmith tells her before she is caught up in the crowd that surrounds the stalls.
"Three silver and twenty coppers." Jessa returns, she has the four silvers but wants to see if the stall owner is willing to lower his prices sufficiently for her taste. Truly the price he is asking is very under what he should be demanding for the weapon. Even the one gold piece and three silvers is a bargain for the enchanted blade.
The blacksmith hesitates but then nods. He hands over the blade and then they haggle over the price of a scabbard that goes with it. Jessa hides her victory smile as she reverently picks up her gift to her lover.
She thanks the blacksmith and returns to where Dhiren and Nathan await her with a sweet roll. She grins as she sees that Dhiren has already consumed most of his. He's become addicted to the sweet bread since she first introduced him to it.
"Dhiren, I hope you saved one for me?" Jessa says smirking at his hasty cleaning up as he shoves the bread into his mouth and wipes the crumbs from his face and hands.
Dhiren temporarily unable to speak merely nods rapidly and points over to Nathan. Looking over, Jessa notes the sweet roll he holds for her.
"Thank you, Nathan. Hold on to it for a bit, will you?" Jessa asks and Nathan nods.
Jessa turns back to Dhiren, "I know you have a perfectly good blade, Dhiren, but when I saw this I knew it was made for you. Please, will you accept my gift to you?" Jessa hands Dhiren the sword that was in it's scabbard.
Taking the scabbard from Jessa, Dhiren is pleased by the weight. He carefully takes the blade out of the scabbard and looks over the sword carefully. He notices the writing on the blade and silently whistles.
"I accept, Jessa. Thank you."
"You will need to whet the blade with your blood, like you had me do with the blade you gave me."
Dhiren does so and smiles at the hum of magic he feels, he feels the connection to the blade and knows that the blade will never leave him or fail him. "It is a lovely gift, Jessa, thank you." Dhiren says and leans over to give her a kiss on her cheek.
"It will never break or blunt. At least according to the blacksmith that sold it to me."
Dhiren smiles broadly at this. He hates having to sharpen his sword after using it. He doesn't know many that enjoy that task and is even more pleased knowing that he won't ever have to do it again.
"I couldn't ask for a better gift, thank you, Jessa." Dhiren has been trained in dual sword fighting, but has never bothered in getting a second sword. He merely buckles on the scabbard on the opposite side of his current sword. Now he'll be able to use his training.
Once that is settled they continue onward towards the temple of Jethro. Jessa finally feeling like she has given Dhiren a decent gift.
