Kallen leaves once he finds out that Jessa will be able to attend the send off. "I'll let you know when to come."
Jessa nods, she fully expects it to be that night as the moon rises, that's usually when the send off's take place.
"I'll also arrange for a proper try out for the body guards. After seeing their performance I have to agree with you, Jessa, they aren't ready for this job. They have the potential, at least some of them do, but they aren't there yet. I'll make sure that Snodgrass is aware that he is on probation for his actions or lack thereof. He broke protocol when he chose those that he favored over those that are worthy." This makes Kallen very angry, this borders on traitorous actions and could have proven fatal for their prince.
"You are in good hands with Jessa, Prince. I'll come my self in a few days to escort you home." Kallen assures the prince.
"Very well, although I don't think that will be necessary, general." Dhiren tries to reassure his spooked and angry general. He himself is angry over the happenings this day, although it made it possible for him to continue courting Jessa. He doesn't like that he lost two of his people though.
Jessa has had enough, she bids her father goodbye and tells them that she is going to go ranging out to make sure that there aren't others nearby.
Kallen is amused that Dhiren quickly makes his farewells as well and disappears with Jessa. The rest of the guard scramble to catch up to the two and Kallen just watches in amusement.
"Excuse me?" The caravan master hesitantly goes up to the only remaining elf there. He believes that the elf is someone of rank the way he had been talking to the prince. "Hi, my name is Dale and I'm caravan master here. I just need to know if we are going to be held responsible for the attack against Jessa and his highness?" There is no doubt that the man is terrified that they will be.
Kallen hides his feelings behind a blank mask. "No, if there had been any indication that you had had any part in the attack you would be dead already. Jessa doesn't miss what she aims at and she is more than a little pissed at the injury she's taken."
Kallen narrows his eyes. "She told us that there is a great deal of doubt as to her abilities as a guard. In gratitude for her saving your asses by saving the prince you should make sure that all the other caravan masters know of her capabilities and competence she's shown you here today.
"Some of your animals need attention, I'll have a healer sent out to look them over and find out what's wrong with them. If I was you, I would rest them and use others for the next trip north. It's up to you though." Kallen says callously. He doesn't like how worn out the animals look. He's glad that the man has granted them the extra day of rest.
Kallen sneers at the human as he returns to Silva. He loses his sneer and it turns to anger at how close they came to losing Dhiren. If it hadn't been for Jessa's fast thinking or rather fast acting movements they would be holding a send off for Dhiren. That arrow was aimed for his heart. Jessa had felt the enchantment, it would have gone straight through the prince's armor. He needs to find out just who the hell sent out the assassins against their prince.
Jessa revels in the freedom away from all the people. She is rather pleased to find that Dhiren is able to keep up with her and is just as silent. She isn't so pleased by the noise some of the guards make. She sneaks up on those ones and threatens them with their lives if they don't learn how to move silently in the next ten seconds.
Amazingly enough, after that they were able to move more covertly.
As she moves, Jessa is constantly on the look out for evidence of bandits or other groups that are about. Groups like the ones that snuck to Silva's border and managed to kill the two elves that were patrolling there.
Jessa knew them, they weren't close, she wasn't close to any of the elves, but they were good elves that never caused her problems. Live and let live was the motto they went by when it came to humans. She has to hand it to them, they acquitted themselves fairly. The infiltrators were highly skilled swordsmen. With her one arm out of action, Jessa actually had to work to keep the invaders from moving forward into Silva or coming close enough to the prince to harm him. The other guardsmen wouldn't have done well and there would have been several more send offs had Jessa not dealt with them.
Jessa angrily shakes her head at the senselessness of it all.
"Thank you, Jessa," Dhiren finally says breaking the silence when Jessa finally stops for a break.
Jessa startled out of her thoughts looks at the prince like he was crazy. "Why are you thanking me, Dhiren?"
Dhiren leans forward and gives her a kiss, "I'm thanking you because you allowed yourself to be harmed to save my life."
Jessa smirks at him, "Now what kind of girlfriend would I be, to allow my boyfriend to be skewered by an arrow? We haven't even had the chance to finish the rites yet."
Dhiren leans in close so that the others can't possibly hear what he has to say, although it's highly unlikely that they are able to hear any way. "Like I said before, if you want my sword all you have to do is say so, Jessa. I'll be more than happy to sheath myself inside you."
Jessa rolls her eyes at Dhiren, "I have no doubt of it, Dhiren, and I have no doubt that you would make it very pleasurable for me. Last night showed me that. However, I think that we should hold off on that, at least for a bit, don't you?"
Dhiren sits back and smirks at her words. "Are you afraid of my sword, Jessa?"
Jessa rolls her eyes at his arrogance once more, "No, Dhiren, I've just been thinking about what the Moon goddess told us last night. I don't want to take any chances until I know how I want to proceed with you."
Her words make Dhiren sit still, "What do you mean proceed with me?"
"Just what I said. I'm still not sure that you aren't putting on a good show. I'm still human, and up until a short time ago you despised them with your whole being. Hatred that strong doesn't go away easily or fast. Just because I'm not pure human won't make your hatred lessen any."
"I found out about your parentage after I had already asked you to be my partner last night. I don't give a shit any more, Jessa. I have never been so taken by a female before in my life."
Neither of the two have noticed the female elf that is frozen at the words she's hearing from her prince and the human. The two are so into their discussion that they fail to notice that the guards are staring at them, wondering how much longer they will be resting for.
Finally the female guard breaks the silence. "Jessa was your partner last night for the celebration, but neither of you participated."
Jessa turns from Dhiren to roll her eyes at Sorsha, "I have never missed a celebration, I did a private one away from the main one like I usually do every year. This year, Dhiren asked me to be his partner and I agreed, but he joined me away from the main celebration."
"Jessa has agreed to allow me to court her," Dhiren says loudly enough for all the elves to hear.
There is a shocked silence that turns to shocked muttering at the prince's words.
"Good, she'll make a good princess and queen of the elves." Now it's Jessa's turn to stare in shock at Sorsha's words.
She raises an eyebrow, "You don't have a problem with Dhiren wanting me as his princess? For me becoming the crown princess of the elves?"
Sorsha snorts out, then covers her face in embarrassment. She shakes her head until she is able to get her blush under control enough to look up. "You are the best female in all of Silva that isn't already taken. There is none better able to protect and care for our prince. You love Silva and wouldn't betray her. You are favored of the Moon goddess where none of us are."
Jessa shakes her head, "The only one that would shock me even more than you saying that would be Kristoff. You and he have tormented me since we first started training."
Sorsha looks down again this time in shame, "Yeah, I am sorry about that. I was jealous of how good you were then and I didn't know how to handle my feelings. When I saw Kristoff treating you like shit, and getting away with it, I decided to join in.
"I wouldn't blame you if you never wanted to speak to me again after all we, I, put you through."
Jessa looks at Sorsha thoughtfully for several long minutes. She taps her finger against her lips as she thinks things through. She gives Dhiren a sidelong look and then comes to a decision. She smiles at Sorsha, "I forgive you. Now, if you all are rested sufficiently we should head back before they eat all the food. I hope you brought your own, because theirs is barely edible." Jessa gives a shudder of disgust at the thought of the food ahead of her tonight.
Dhiren starts chuckling and assures her that food will be provided for the night. Then he puts his arms over her shoulder and turns her back to camp. When the others aren't looking he gives her a rather passionate kiss.
"That endorsement by Sorsha came as a surprise, didn't it?" Dhiren says conversationally as they walk back.
"You could have knocked me over with a feather when she said it. That and asking for forgiveness."
"She never did, actually." Dhiren retorts.
Jessa rolls her eyes, "That was closer than I ever expected to get. You elves don't apologize, you know that."
With those words Dhiren laughs out loud.
Jessa taunts him as she takes off running. Dhiren runs after her immediately and only catches up to her once they are just outside of their camp.
Jessa motions for Dhiren to be quiet. As they listen to the conversation among the humans the other elves catch up to them.
