Snowday II (von NetworkDaemon)

Snowday II

Begriffe: Heiße Schokolade, "Eisblumen"

[Continued from "A December Snow Day"]

---------

After our first kiss, Mia and I cuddled on the couch by the fireplace before we were interrupted.

"Hey Mia! Doing some sledding? What's his name anyways?"

Mia and I turned to see Mia's sister staring at us.

I let go of Mia, who sat up straight and shot a dirty look at her sister before turning back to me.

"We'll never get a moment alone here. Want to go for a drive?"

"Maybe?" I said, not convinced that leaving our cozy spot on the couch was a necessity, "Where do you want to go?"

"Maybe we can get some food? I'm kind of hungry after the sledding."

"Sure you are," giggled Mia's sister.

Five minutes later, and still with no destination in mind, we were outside brushing the snow from my car.

"Sorry about my sister. She's just at that stage where she's discovering guys and crushes, and is very nosy."

"Ah. No worries. We can go to my house. I don't think my parents will bug us, my sister is probably still sleeping since she was up until 4 AM last night, and I can guarantee my little brother is playing video games."

We got in the car, and I started the engine, only to find that the windshield and windows fogged up immediately with condensation. I flipped on the defrost mode on the heater.

"I'm going to let it defrost for a minute so I can actually see the road," I said.

"No worries," said Mia as she leaned forward and wrote her name in the condensation on the windshield. I leaned over and drew a heart around it.

"Aww," said Mia, leaning over the center console to put her head on my shoulder as we watched the drawing fade and the windshield slowly clear as the defroster evaporated away the condensation.

After a short drive, I pulled up in my driveway and parked the car. As Mia and I entered my house, we were immediately greeted by my father.

"Hey! How was sledding and who is this?" he asked.

"Well, sledding got a little bit crowded," I said, looking at Mia, who concealed a smile at that remark, "and this is my friend Mia. I hope you don't mind I invited her to hang out here for a bit and maybe get a snack."

"Hi!" said Mia.

My father looked her over with a bit of curiosity.

"Nice to meet you, Mia," he said before turning back to me, "Your mom just made a batch of hot chocolate, and your little brother really wants some pizza so we might pick some up in a little bit."

"Awesome," I said before turning to Mia, "want some hot chocolate?"

"Yeah!"

A few minutes later, Mia and I were seated around the kitchen table as my mother began her customary interrogation of new visitors.

"So do you also go to Northridge High?" asked my mother.

"Yeah," answered Mia.

"And you two know each other from school?"

"Yeah," both of us answered as we sipped on our hot chocolate.

Fortunately she soon ran out of questions and put her hot chocolate in a travel mug as she and my father went to watch TV in the living room. This left Mia and I to enjoy our hot chocolate in relative peace as we listened in on my younger brother yelling and the sound machine gun fire coming from his video game.

"Sorry about the noise. Scott just gets really into Call of Duty," I said.

"Hey, at least he's not my sister and won't interrupt us if I do this," she said, putting her arms around me and moving in for a chocolate flavored kiss.

As we finished, I simply stared into her green eyes, and she stared back, simply silently enjoying the moment. It seemed like minutes passed until we were interrupted as we heard my parents stir in the living room. We quickly let go of each other and returned to drinking the hot chocolate like normal as my father walked in.

"Hey, so I am going to pick up some pizza. Do you two want something?"

"Can you order a Hawaiian pizza for us please?" I asked.

"Absolutely," said my father, "I'm going to see what your brother wants and then I'll put in the order."

As he left the kitchen, Mia looked at me.

"Did you know that Hawaiian pizza was my favorite?"

"I kind of guessed. Last year when we had the pizza party after finishing the history exams, I saw you go straight for the one Hawaiian pizza on the table, and I kind of made a mental note of it."

"Aww really? You were interested in me even then?"

"Yep."

"Why didn't you ask me out then?"

"I thought you might say no."

"So you waited for a snow day, sledding and a Lingonberry chocolate to give you your opportunity?"

Before I could answer, I heard my father coming back down the stairs. We waited as he put on his jacket and walked outside.

"So you were saying?" asked Mia.

As I thought about how to continue, I heard the door open again and my father walked back into the kitchen and looked at us.

"Are you two dating?" he asked.

"What makes you think that?" I said, going for my default, evasive answer to buy time and feel out the situation. Despite the kisses, I had not yet properly asked Mia out to a date.

"Come look at the windshield of the car."

Mia and I followed my father as he looked out the kitchen window and pointed at the car. Frost had formed inside the car, revealing Mia's name and the heart I had drawn around it on the windshield.

"So you two are dating?" asked my father again.

"That's up to Mia," I said and turned to her, "Mia, want to go out with me?"

She looked at me and smiled.

"Yes."
