Chapter 8
Jungkook takes a deep breath as he pitches his nose-bridge. His lips are starting to dry and his breath is visible as small clouds in front of him.
The suit he's wearing isn't keeping much warm any longer as he stands by the side of an empty road, looking at his car that's totally dead.
He just drove off from the airport, but somehow his car broke down on the way. But not just anywhere, in the middle of South Korea's version of a desert.
Not to mention that it's evening and he's freezing his balls off.
He has tried to get in contact with someone, but the signal here is crap. He hits his phone a few more times and walks around a little.
He can't be that fucking cursed, so there must be signal somewhere nearby.
"Work, you stupid piece of-" he can't curse any longer before his phone finally gets signal. With a sigh of relief he places himself against a tree, keeping his free arm wrapped around his chest.
Now, it's the next problem. Who should he call? He could call roadservice, but they didn't reply when he tried catching them last time.
He knows he should probably call Taehyung, but honestly, he doesn't really want to.
It's a childish thought, he's aware of that. They are probably worrying about him by now, it's pretty late and he's still quite far from home.
Sucks.
It's not like he can run forever, he might as well get it over with... with a deep sigh, he finds Taehyung's number in his contacts.
He has seen how Taehyung has been trying to call him multiple times, but he never had time to answer. Time.
He lifts the phone to his ear with a shaking hand, hissing by the cold of its surface.
It beeps a few times before Jungkook is met with silence. Taehyung isn't the one to drop the first word with this tension, Jungkook was prepared for that.
"Hey honey," he almost whispers, trying not to sound like his legs are turning into icicles.
"Don't you 'hey honey' me, you prick."
Okay fair, he deserved that.
"Sorry... but can we save the argument for later? I'm in a bit of... trouble..."
"Mm, serves you right," Taehyung grumbles through the phone. He's standing in the kitchen, cleaning up because he couldn't sleep.
No wonder when your husband decides to run away and then not come back home when he told you he would.
"Yeah... but like... can you come and pick me up?" he asks, almost covering down by whatever is going to come his way.
"Pick you up? Hmm interesting, I have to pick you up 2 am in the morning!?" Taehyung hisses.
"I know I'm sorry! My car broke down, and I'm no where near the city..." he says. He hears a sigh from the other end.
"Jesus, I have work tomorrow... fine, send your location, I'll come and get you," the elder replies.
"Thanks Tae... I think there's a hotel somewhere, we should probably stay there until tomorrow," Jungkook states. It's never safe to drive if you're tired and it's dark.
He doesn't need a crash on his conscience too.
"Okay, I'll be there in about an hour or two... can you stay warm enough inside the car?" Taehyung asks, now a little worried.
"I don't really have any other choice. I'll be fine, get going," he says and holds still for a second, "love you."
Taehyung is quiet a little too long.
"Love you too," he mumbles out and the line is cut. Jungkook sighs and heads back towards the car after having shared his location.
He gets inside and hugs his body as much as he can.
Taehyung shuts the phone and drags a hand over his face. God, this is not how expected to spend the night.
"What's wrong?" a voice emerges from the door and Taehyung flinches in surprise. Luckily, it's just Jimin.
"What are you doing up?" Taehyung asks. Jimin has school tomorrow after all.
"Couldn't sleep. I saw the light and went down. Is everything alright?" he presses on.
Yes, aside from the fact that your father is a total idiot.
"Yeah... I just have to pick Jungkook up, his car broke down..."
"Really? Where is he?"
"About two hours away from here, I need to go get him before he freezes to death," Taehyung replies and walks out of the kitchen, "we probably have to sleep over at a hotel tonight."
"Can I come?" Jimin asks as he follows his father to the entrance.
"No, you have school tomorrow," Taehyung states and takes his shoes.
"We only have one lesson tomorrow, it won't hurt if I skip. I'll get a classmate to take notes for me," Jimin insists.
Taehyung doesn't know if it's because Jimin is worried or if it's because he doesn't want to be home alone.
The elder looks at Jimin for a little, debating in his mind. After a few second he slumps his shoulders with a sigh.
"Fine, I guess we can have a family day tomorrow or something... get some warmer clothes on in a hurry, Jungkook will get sick at this rate," Taehyung rushes and Jimin lights up and escapes to get some warmer clothing.
The car ride was mostly silent, Jimin is dozing of in the passenger seat. Taehyung's mind is occupied by the whole situation.
He feels kind of betrayed to be honest. You're not supposed to keep stuff like that secret from each other.
Taehyung knows Jungkook made it a secret escape just to avoid fighting. He could have went but still told Taehyung, the elder would have been pissed but not as pissed as he is now.
It's just not okay. It's just like when Jimin ran away back in the day, playing with the trust between them.
Loyalty is so important in a family. It's a given, to be honest.
Taehyung turns on the radio so he has something to occupie his mind with.
______
After about two hours, Taehyung and Jimin arrive on the road where Jungkook is supposedly sitting inside a car.
"Do you see it anywhere?" Jimin questions as he skims over the side of the road. They didn't get much information aside from the roadname, so finding him might be more challenging than expected.
This whole situation sucks mayor ass.
"No, he must be just around here..." Taehyung says.
There are absolutely no cars and it's inside a forest. Seems like a place where it's very easy to get lost.
"Wait! There," Jimin says as they drive past a vehicle that is stuck in the rebate. Taehyung immediately hits the brakes and puts the car in reverse.
They back up until they are side to side with the car. And indeed, there Jungkook is. The male slowly opens his eyes and looks at them. Seems like he's very cold, he can barely move.
Taehyung parks the car and quickly gets out. He runs over to the car, opening the door.
"Oh my God, are you okay?" he worries as he grabs around Jungkook, feeling the male's cold skin against his own.
"J-Just a little t-tired," Jungkook chuckles out, but his voice cracks and his body shakes to show otherwise. Taehyung quickly unbuckles his belt and helps him get out.
"Goddamn dad, not looking too good," Jimin says as he goes to support his father other side, giving him some type of warmth.
"Have been better," Jungkook agrees and he's lead into the passenger seat where Jimin were sitting before.
Taehyung opens up the trunk when Jungkook is safely inside and collects a blanket. Luckily, he remembered to bring it.
"Here," he says as he's back by Jungkook's side, tucking him. The said male almost sighs in relief from receiving a bit more warmth.
"Let's go, the hotel is 45 minutes away, we need to get you in a shower," the elder adds and makes his way to the front seat.
He turns up the heat completely and turn towards the city.
"Stay awake, your body is still too cold. It won't be good it you fall asleep," Taehyung says and Jungkook lifts himself up a little to sit better.
He nods and shakes his body. Jimin starts up a conversation with him to keep him awake as they drive along the road, heading for shelter.
