Passing the first phase of the Hunter exam with relatively no difficulty.

"Ayyyy, look who it is," an arm was slung around your shoulder, pulling you in closer. Ruffling your hair, as if you were there sibling as well, "our favorite Hunter still in the game, huh?"

"Shush, Umori," One of the other ones pulled him off of you, quickly wrapping a hand around his mouth, "we don't want everyone to know that they're a.. y'know."

How secretive.

But they had a point. You didn't want too much attention on you. Not now that Hisoka was here, at least.

Also, wasn't he supposed to be at a meeting? So is the rest of the troupe here?

"Are you drunk?" Blinking a few times as Umori stumbled back, tilting your head, "It looks like you're drunk."

"Bastard wanted to celebrate," Was the grumbled response for Amori(?), the seeming leader of the group, "I don't even know when he snuck in alcohol."

"Why?" The third and weakest looking asked nervously, "We're not in trouble, are we?"

"You'd have to ask the examiner for this phase," Folding your hands in front of you, to tried not to smirk as you added, "But I'm sure I could pull some strings."

Plus, seeing the stars in their eyes as they high-fived was quite funny. Considering that you really couldn't do anything.

Glancing over at the examiner—Tsezguerra, if you remember correctly—you considered talking to them. Casually communicating with examiners would completely solidify your role as one.

But, doing so would draw Hisoka's attention. Which was the last thing you needed right now.

Luckily for you, Hisoka was much easier to spot out than you were. And he probably wouldn't be looking for you in the first place.

"Ah, there you are!" The lady from before called, drawing you out of your thoughts as she weaved through the crowd of people, "Our deal's still on, yeah?"

"Hm?" You almost forgot that you technically owe her a favor now, not that you'd be capable of paying it back. You smiled and nodded, moving a finger over your lips in a shushing manner "Of course, but shh."

She just nodded eagerly, before heading back towards the door. Waiting for someone...?

That might be good to note. If you were going to lie your way through this, you'd have to keep track of everyone and everything.

After a long while of waiting around, a new Hunter finally entered the room. Tsezguerra leaving with a bow and nothing else.

Standing on business, respectable.

"Hello all remaining Hunter Applicants, my name is Sayird. I will be in control of the second phase of the exam."

Only snapping back once the floor started moving downwards. Dropping you into a humid cave, covered in glowing gems.

You know that one picture of the guys mining where one gives up 0.02 inches away from reaching the humongous amount of diamonds?

The cave was basically like that. Gems were everywhere. Almost taunting you.

"And your time starts now!"

Standing still as everyone ran off the platform and into the cave, you stared at the examiner. Blinking slowly.

Still trying to figure out what the phase itself was, you didn't notice Hisoka's glance back at you. The only one left standing on the platform, as everyone ran off.

Because you failed to learn your lesson last time you embarrassed yourself, you looked around panicky and blurted "I'm a Hunter"

"..From Tsezguerra's phase?" You nodded in response, biting your tongue hard. Just waiting to be called out, which would legally have to be your thirteenth reason.

"...Then why are you still in the exam?"

"Chairman..? sent me?" You were no longer digging a deeper hole for yourself. And instead now it was just a grave. To rest for eternity until you're never mentioned again.

"Oh."

"Yes.." Folding your hands in front of you, interlocking your fingers as you looked away. There was no way this was working on an examiner, right? "I just need you to say I passed, so I can move on..?"

"Okay..? If Netero said so.. who knows what that crazy old bastard is ever up to.."

Now everyone was confused. The Hunter mumbling to himself about the chairman being insane. And you just staring at him nervously.

Noticing your continued stare, he quickly stopped muttering, instead blurting, "Oh, you pass. Is that what you're waiting for? You just wait here? Unless you need to.. wait somewhere else?"

You kinda felt bad for confusing him. But at least now you had been explicitly told by the examiner that you had passed the phase.

Hopefully you don't get disqualified later for cheating or something.

"No, I'll wait here, thank you." You nodded politely. Despite your thoughts being a jumbled mess.

There's no way that actually worked, right?

The Hunter exam had to have better communication skills than that?

"Hmm.." Netero scratched his beard, watching the cameras with Tsezguerra and the other dozen Hunters who had helped monitor the first phase.

"I was not aware that that.." Tsezguerra seemed to be trying to avoid saying slurs to describe you, "applicant had been using such tricks to pass by, sir. I assure you-"

"No, no," Netero just laughed, waving off his worries with a careless wave of his hand, "They're doing quite fine. Please put Y/n L/n, applicant number 82, onto the 'passed' list for this phase?"

"You're seriously letting them just get away with doing nothing, sir?" One of the hunters asked, even as they marked your success on their clipboard.

"Oh, me?" Netero chuckled again, "I'm not letting them do anything. The examiner is the only one in control of who passes and fails the second phase."

"But- but they're just lying- and in your name, too!"

"Yes, quite an uncommon occurrence, believe it or not." Netero's eyes never left the screen, laughing to himself more and more "And rarely executed this well. I simply can't wait to meet this rookie."

"May I ask a question?" The examiner looked around for any stray applicants lingering around, before asking you, "How have you hid your Nen so well? From everything I sense, it seems you're a non-user."
