Chapter 2 - Forced Engagement
Rewritten.
Marinette's P.O.V:
I let out a sigh of content as I wrapped the towel around me and step out of the bathroom.
I threw on a bright yellow dress that stopped right above my knees and put on some white flats. I then tied my hair into a pony tail with a white ribbon.
I was about to go sit on my bed when someone knocked on the door.
"Come in," I said as I took a seat and the door opened.
A redhead maid poked her head in.
"Good morning, your Highness. It's time for breakfast and your parents said that you cannot skip breakfast today. They also said that they have an important announcement to make," She said, her voice monotone. Just like every other maid in this castle.
"Tell them I'll be right down," I informed her.
She simply nodded and closed the door.
Getting up, I exited my room and headed to the dining room for breakfast.

Arriving to the dining room, I saw my parents having a hushed conversation. They quickly moved apart when they saw that I had entered the room.
"Good Morning," I said as I took a seat.
"Good Morning, Marinette," They said in unison.
Maids came into the room and placed our meals in front of us.
When they left, we sat and ate in silence, just like every other day.
"Marinette," My father broke the silence.
"Yes?" I said as I looked up at him.
"Your mother and I have something important to tell you," He said and mom nodded.
"Go ahead then," I spoke with a bored tone. I wasn't really interested in anything they had to say.
"Your father and I found the perfect husband for you," Mom smiled as she clapped her hands excitedly.
This caught my attention.
"What?"
"We're getting you married. We think you're ready," My father said as he took a drink of his coffee.
"I don't want to get married! We talked about this!" I exclaimed as I rose from my seat and slammed my palms on the table.
"Marinette! You will not use that tone of language with us again! Now sit down!" My father said sternly.
I groaned and sat back down.
"You are almost twenty years old. All royals must be married by the age of twenty. We thought it was best if you get married as soon as possible," Mom tried to reason.
"I don't care. I don't want to be married and I'm not going to get married," I said simply as I looked away from them.
"You will be marrying Prince Adrien Agreste. You don't have a say in this. Our kingdom is at stake. If you don't marry Gabriel Agreste's son, our kingdom will overthrown. We will lose money and power! You will marry Adrien. End of story. You have ballroom practice in one hour then you have etiquette class. We will see you at dinner time. You are dismissed," Dad said finally.
I felt tears well up in my eyes.
"Can't I decide anything for myself?!" I shouted before running to my room.
Slamming the door behind me, I face planted on my bed as hot tears streamed down my face.
Marriage? I wasn't ready for marriage! Why did I have to be born into a royal family??
*****
Adrien's P.O.V:
"Adrien," I heard Natalie call from behind me.
I put down the gun and turned to face her.
"Yes?"
"Your father has requested to see you in his study," She said, her head in her tablet.
"Okay, just let me finish up practice," I said before putting on my ear muffs and picking up the gun.
I aimed and shot the dummy right in the bull's-eye.
I smirked confidently before I changes and headed to my father's study.
I knocked lightly on the door before entering the room, shutting the door behind me..
"You wanted to see me, father?"
He turned around, with his hands behind his back, and stalked towards me.
"Adrien, I have found you the perfect bride," He said, not a trace of a smile on his face.
Bride? Did I hear him right?
"I'm sorry. I'm not sure I heard you right,"
Father rolled his eyes and glared at me.
"I have found you a woman to marry. She is Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Princess of the Dupain-Cheng Kingdom," He stated and I felt anger bubble inside me.
"Father, we already spoke about the marriage thing and I told you that I want no part in it!" I exclaimed.
His eyes widened.
"Did you just raise your voice at me, Adrien?"
"I don't want to get married!"
"Do you want to raise your voice at me again, Adrien" He asked, his voice dark. I immediately felt my anger die down.
"No father," I mumbled.
"Good. You will marry Ms Marinette and you will not refuse. Your trainer will arrive soon for practice, get ready. You are dismissed," He said before turning around.
"Why must you always want to rule my life?" I said angrily before leaving and slamming the door behind me.
Marriage? I wasn't ready for marriage!
