Chapter 14

Dan was sick of just sitting there crying; he needed someone. Dan didn't really care that he looked like a mess or that he wasn't particularly on great terms with anyone, he just turned on his phone and sent a text to his boyfriend. Dan knew that Phil would probably be the best person to talk to; he would probably hug him and let him sob into his chest which was definitely something Dan needed. He hoped that Phil wouldn't laugh at him again but then his brain kicked in and told him that Phil would never do that. Especially to someone who was in his state.

Phil didn't respond. It had been about ten minutes and he hadn't responded yet. Phil usually responded straight away so it was abnormal that Phil hadn't replied in ten whole minutes.

'Maybe he really does think you're pathetic. Maybe he's laughing at you right now with his popular friends.' Dan couldn't help but think, making fresh tears appear in his eyes. Before he knew it, he had his knees tucked into his chest again and he was sobbing. He couldn't help it. He was just letting out all of his thoughts which he knew were ridiculous but they just nagged at him and made him feel stupid.

It was about another ten minutes later when his phone started to violently vibrate in his pocket. He slipped it out to find that Phil was calling him and he couldn't help but smile to himself slightly. He answered as quickly as possible before wiping away his tears and composing himself. "Phil? Can you come pick me up?" He managed to say but his voice came out really shaky, making it extremely obvious that he had been crying.

"Are you crying?" Phil's voice held so much concern and that made Dan smile again; he obviously cared about him a lot.

"Kind of.. Can you just pick me up?"

"Where are you?"

"School, in the toilets."

"I'll be there as soon as possible. I promise."

"Thank you so much." Dan then hung up and he actually managed to turn his cries into small sniffs. He stayed where he was sitting though, his knees still tucked into his chest until someone opened the toilet doors, making him spring up because he thought it may be Phil. It wasn't. So Dan's still-fairly-teary eyes met one of the popular's. That particular popular was wearing a smirk which made Dan feel slightly intimidated.

"Have you been crying?" The popular asked, the smirk not once fading from his face.

"No." Dan muttered, wiping the tears from his eyes as quickly as possible.

"You have! What made you cry? Did Lester finally give up on you?" Dan rapidly shook his head and he could tell that the popular could literally see the fear in his hazel eyes. "Shame really. He would have made an awesome popular. I don't understand why he chose you," The popular practically spat out the word you like it was some sort of poison on his tongue. "Over us. He would have been so much better off with us.." Dan was thinking to himself over and over again 'hurry up, Phil! HURRY UP!' but, of course, Phil had decided to take his time. "Is he on his way to save the day and make you happy?"

"Yes and he will be here any minute so you better-" Dan was cut off by lips pressing against his. He just pushed the popular away from him in time to see Phil at the door, his eyes wide with disappointment. Then he was out of the room like a light, not once looking back. That was when the popular turned back to Dan and his smirk seemed so much larger and scarier.

"Now maybe he will understand that he should have chosen us over you." The popular shoved Dan so hard that he fell to the floor, tears in his eyes again.

"He'll know that I wouldn't kiss you voluntarily. He's not stupid."

"Oh yeah? I bet you that he'll be glad to get rid of you." The popular raised his fist, making Dan squeeze his eyes shut, afraid that the fist would soon come in contact with his face. It did. Dan knew it would leave a bruise but he didn't really care anymore. His friends were suspicious of him and Phil probably saw him as a cold-hearted cheater so.. what really was the point anymore? "You better not talk to him again. If I even see you two together again, you'll pay." Dan didn't even bother to argue or shout back as the popular left, leaving Dan back in his position on the floor, the tears falling down his cheeks for what felt like the hundredth time that day.

Phil was practically running through the school halls, his mind only set on Dan and whether or not he was okay. He pushed the door to the toilets open, his breathing heavy as he searched for Dan in the small room. His eyes immediately set on the boy whose lips were locked with one of the populars. Phil gasped as Dan pushed the other away before meeting his eyes. Phil shook his head before racing out of the room, his mind going eccentric. He didn't ever think that Dan would ever do something so horrible such as cheat on him. It didn't seem to suit his character at all but Phil wasn't thinking straight; he was too upset and annoyed. In one day so many terrible things had happened: his school had threatened to exclude him; his mum had told him that she only looked after him because she had to and his boyfriend had kissed someone else.

His day had been shit.. so shit. He didn't even think a day could be so shit.

His usual smirk was a frown and his usually dark eyes were shining with tears. He didn't look anything like he usually did, tears were now surrounding his eyes and Phil Lester barely ever cried, only when things were really bad. Things were really bad.

Phil didn't really have anywhere to go. He was just running through the halls, his heart beating fast in his chest as he thought about everything that had happened that day. He was so busy thinking that he didn't notice that a teacher was patrolling the halls. "Phil Lester. Why aren't in you in class and why are you running in the- are you crying?" The teacher practically yelled but her voice softened towards the end.

"No, I am not." Phil grumbled, furiously wiping the tears away from his cheeks.

"You are.. are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Phil snapped, the tears in his eyes reappearing within seconds.

"You're not, are you? Would you like to speak to someone? I'm sure the school counsellor is free to speak to you."

"I told you, I'm-" Phil's breath hitched as a tear made its way down his cheek and it didn't go unnoticed by the teacher. "Fine."

"If you're sure.. get back to class. I'll let you off this time."

-

It was about an hour later when Phil barged into his house. He tried his best to stay as silent as possible as he ran upstairs to his bedroom. He needed to get away from everyone, desperately. He placed his phone down on his bedside table, plugging it in and putting it on charge. He then grabbed his school backpack before tipping his books out onto his bed. He opened his wardrobe and pulled out some random clothes, stuffing them into the bag as quickly and as quietly as possible. "Phil, what are you doing?" He heard his mum say and he turned to see that his mum was at his bedroom door, her eyebrows furrowed.

"I'm leaving." Phil muttered, searching around the room for his wallet before finding it in the top draw of his desk. He put that in the front pocket of his bag.

"I can't let you do that."

"I know but I am doing it anyway." Phil grumbled, grabbing his leather jacket from the hook behind his door. He pulled it on before shaking his head at his mum. "Sorry." He picked up his bag and threw it over his right shoulder. It was annoyingly heavy. "I'll see you in a few days or whatever."

"Phil, don't you dare leave."

"Goodbye, mum." Phil then walked out of his bedroom, leaving his mum standing there in disbelief. He rushed out so fast that he didn't realise that his phone was still on his side; he had forgotten it.

I'm in a good mood!
