An Easter Hymn
When a star rose
That Christmas night
Three wise men
Followed its light-
The star's child grew
He taught, He learned
And our respect
The Lamb did earn-
He set the path
And showed our minds
How we may live
Through life's harsh wind-
Then He atoned
He knew my grief
He suffered all
Without relief-
The mountains shook
The thunder rolled
The world has killed
Our glorious Lord-
He rose again
On that third day
So that my fear
Is washed away-
His perfect love
His gentle hands
He lives, He lives!
Christ lives again.
For Jesus died on Calvary, That all thru him might ransomed be. Then sing hosannas to his name; Let heav’n and earth his love proclaim.
~LDS hymns, 176-177
He lives, my kind, wise heav’nly Friend. He lives and loves me to the end. He lives, and while he lives, I’ll sing. He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King. He lives and grants me daily breath. He lives, and I shall conquer death. He lives my mansion to prepare. He lives to bring me safely there.
He lives! All glory to his name! He lives, my Savior, still the same. Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives: “I know that my Redeemer lives!” He lives! All glory to his name! He lives, my Savior, still the same. Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives: “I know that my Redeemer lives!”
~LDS hymns, 134
He is risen! He is risen! Tell it out with joyful voice. He has burst his three days’ prison; Let the whole wide earth rejoice. Death is conquered; man is free. Christ has won the victory.
~LDS hymns, 199
22: And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!
23: For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father
24: That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God.
~Joseph Smith, Doctrine and Covenants 76
Happy Easter lovelies! As a very devout Mormon I felt impressed to share these verses from our hymns. They're some of the greatest poetry ever written in my mind, and the quote from the Prophet Joseph ties it together wonderfully.
He Lives! He is Risen!
