Chapter 10

"Come on, Edison! Go, go, go!" East yelled from the bleachers at one of my track meets. Ever since he came back, him and his fiancé have been some of my biggest supporters, and I could not be more grateful that they're in my life.

My school team's on the fast track to Regionals. Ben's already cleared his schedule so he could take me there, and the rest of my family cleared their schedules so they could cheer me on. Even though I was an exhausted, sweaty mess, I was having so much fun, and I could not be happier than when I was on the track.

"Wow, Edison. You're fast. Seriously, I've never seen a girl your age run this fast." East said. I giggled and said, "It takes a lot of practice, but it all pays off in the end. If my team wins the meet on Friday, we're going to Regionals, and that means I'm going to Los Angeles!"

"Nice job, kid!" East's fiancé, Jayce, said. Jayce was Australian and really, really nice, he would always take me out to dinner after school if Ben was at work.

"Thanks!" I said, grabbing a bottle of water and downing half of it. "My dad's picking me up in a few minutes, I have to go to a doctor's appointment and I want to say goodbye to my teammates before I go. Bye guys, love you!"

"Love you too, Edison!" Jayce said. I giggled and ran to the girl's locker room and put all my stuff away and changed back into normal clothes.

"Gotta go, team, great job today! We're gonna crush it at Regionals!"

___________

"Edison Feldman?"

Hearing the nurse say my legal last name made me swell up with pride. I loved knowing that I was in America for good and that Ben and the others loved me more than anything. I was sitting in the waiting room at the doctors office- my checkup after being diagnosed with ITP.

I walked into the office and sighed, I really didn't want to be here. I looked down at my legs and realized there were bruises all over them.

Not a good sign.

The doctor checked out my heart and lungs, then focused his attention on my ITP. "So, how's everything going?"

"Good. I started track and field, I'm being careful though." I said. The doctor nodded and said, "Track and field, huh?"

I nodded, clutching my sweatshirt. This was probably not good news at all. The doctor put some information into the computer and sighed, looking to Ben and I with a sad smile.

"Is everything okay?" Ben asked.

"Sir, I'm sorry, but I suggest your daughter avoid any physical activity for a while. That includes track."
