Chapter Thirty-two

Katelyn's point of view

I sat on my bed at midnight, my eyes burning as I force them to stay open. I had so much homework to do and it had to get done before tomorrow, Friday.

Are teachers unaware that we have five other classes than their own?

I continued writing and then yawned a bit. I looked at the multiple equations and my mind went blank.

What was slope intercept form? What was rise over run? Which one was x1 and y2? Which one means positive? Which means negative? How do you graph this again?

I huffed and threw the papers on the floor. It hasn't even been a week and I'm already stressing over homework. My mind already wants to give up.

I sighed and then looked at the mess of papers on the floor. After those thirty problems, I have homework on figurative language, homework on the melting points of the elements, and then Spanish homework for a test tomorrow.

I ran my hands through my hair and then tugged on it. I took a few deep breaths, trying to get my head screwed back on, and then I heard a knock at the front door.

It's midnight, midnight, who would that be? Halloween isn't until Saturday, so why?

I got up, since I was positive Michael would be asleep, and then walked downstairs, flipping almost every light switch on.

I am not dying because I forgot to turn on the damn lights.

I went to the porch and flipped that light on, looking through the peephole. I saw a familiar face and I sighed. He know someone is awake already so fuck it.

I opened the door and looked at Calum. "You're up? I thought Michael would be up." He said and walked in. "Why are you up?"

"Homework." I said and he nodded. "Michael is asleep." I said as I locked the front door.

"Damn." He said and sighed. "I'm gonna crash here for tonight, I'm tired as shit after that flght. Go to sleep yourself, don't worry about homework."

"Can't, but goodnight." I said and then went upstairs as I turned lights off. I went to my room and then yawned.

I was so tired.... but I needed to finish my honework.

-

"Why the hell are you here Calum?"

"Luke won't even leave his bedroom unless it's for beer! Come on man, you have to talk to him, you and Katelyn." I heard Calum yell and I hummed.

"I don't want to. He's not emotionally and mentally stable-"

"But it's worse when you're not there." Calum argued and I stirred a bit. "He's a wreck and he won't stop crying and drinking. He'll drink himself into death."

"I don't care-"

"Well you fucking should. Maybe you two have problems-"

"Problems? Try physical abuse." Michael said and I sat up a bit. I looked around and realized that it was way past the beginning of school and I had a graph stuck to my face.

"Okay, that's a big thing, but you have to remember Michael. You two having problems not only effects you two, but the band and Katelyn aswell." Calum said. "If you can't do it for the sake of Muke, do it for the band and for the fans and for Katelyn."

"I don't want-"

"Do you want what's best for you? Or do you want what's best for this band that we've spent almost five years in? Is it all about you? Can't you just put aside your pride and do it for the sake of our careers and Katelyn's life? Having no parents is hard, having one parent is harder, but having two parents who argue nonstop and can't even look at each other must be the worst." Calum said and I stood up.

I took the paper off my face and then rubbed the sleep out of my eye. I stumbled out of my room and looked around.

"I know Cal but he hurt her aswell. I don't want him around her until here realizes that she's here to stay." Michael said and I stood at the top of the stairs as they argued.

"Maybe he did but Michael, you have to realize that maybe leaving this far away was all it took. Maybe he realized as soon as you drove off. Maybe he's ready to be a parent but you wouldn't know because you won't talk to him." Calum said, not seeing me standing here.

"I know. I'll see if I can call him tomorrow or something. We're not going back though. I'll call him but I refuse to go back so soon." Michael said and I went back to my room.

I yawned a bit and sat on my bed. I pushed all my papers off the bed, not caring where they went at the moment, and laid down. I hugged the pillow and closed my eyes, trying to block out their arguing.

"That's all I'm asking for, call him. Talk to him. He's a mess and I can't fucking stand it. I don't want to take sides but Luke needs you and you can't just leave him all alone."

I yawned and then my phone rang. I groaned and then reached for it, quickly taking the call.

"Bitch, where the fuck are you?" I heard Nick's voice and I groaned. "Did I call during your sexy time?"

"Fuck off." I said and he gasped. "I'm tired and am too busy trying not to fall asleep."

"Ooh bitch, I'm going to pop your ass when you come to school on Monday. I'm gonna put my hair in a bun and we gon' meet at the front of the school." He said and I can just imagine him putting his imaginary long hair in a bun.

"I will choke you with my Gucci belt."

"Bitch ain't got no Gucci belt, shut up booboo." He said and I laughed. "You rich but you ain't that rich."

"Mhm." I hummed and then yawned. "Is there a point to this call? I'm tired and want to hang up."

"Bitch if you hang up on me I will rip your dyed hair out, you don't hang up on me." He said sassily and I just hummed. "Anyways, where you at?"

"My bed."

"Why the fuck are you in your bed? Yo ass should be right here and helping me talk shit about these wannabe bad bitches." He said. "Run along Angel before I rip your fake ass bleached hair out."

"I'll be there tomorrow-"

"Tomorrow is Saturday booboo." He said and I huffed. "You better be here Monday. I'm not trying to be a bitch by myself." He told me and I chuckled.

"Of course. Of course. The bell rang, bye." I said as it rang. I hung up the phone and then there was a knock on my door. "Yeah?" I asked.

"Are you hungry? Calum went out to buy pizza and stuff. It should be here in a bit." He told me and I nodded.

"Michael, my homework is everywhere and half of it is incomplete." I said as I looked at the floor. "I'm sorry."

"Why are you sorry? So you missed a few papers and equations, it's no big deal." He told me and I nodded. "I'm proud of you. You haven't given up yet."

"If I had a choice, I'd drop out and deal crack to crackheads. Makes good money." I said and he laughed.

"Better than a stripper. Anyways-"

"Hey, strippers make good money too. You getting cash just by shaking your ass and sliding down a pole. If I was old enough and didn't care about making you guys look back, I'd sign myself the fuck up." I told him and he rolled his eyes.

"Might wanna loose some weight and grow some tits for that then." He said and I laughed, not taking it to the heart. "Anyways, I called the school and said you're out with a stomach ache due to expired milk."

"Nice." I said and sighed as he chuckled. "Up?" I asked like a child as I raised my arms.

"You're lucky that I sometimes lift weights with the guys." He said and picked me up. "Come on, let's go downstairs. You can clean your room later."

"Can you clean it?"

"I'm your dad, not a maid. You can pick up after yourself." He said and I nodded. "So, I'm going to call Luke, do you want to talk to him?"

"Sure." I said hesitantly as he set me down on the couch. He sat down beside me and then pulled his phone out.

He dialed a number and then put it on speaker. "Calum's making you do to this? Today?" I asked and he nodded.

"Yeah, he says I need to." He told me and I nodded.

"Luke? Why is the pizza man calling?" A woman asked and Michael seemed conflicted. "Hello?"

"May I speak to Luke?" Michael asked and the lady hummed. "Luke?" Michael asked, his voice strong and confident.

"M-Michael." Luke said. He sounded weak and out of breath. He also sounded as if he just got finished rubbing lemon juice all over his vocal chords.

"Who was that Luke?" Michael asked and I sat awkwardly. "Who picked up your phone for you? You never let me do that."

"She's a-a friend of a friend-"

"Have you seen my jeans? I can't find them-"

"What's going on over there?" Michael asked and his eyes began to water. "Who is she?" He asked again, his voice wavering.

"I-I-She's-"

"He picked me up out of a club along with some other guy and we had a rather wild night, like a movie cliché. Is this the part where I'm told that the blonde just cheated on someone and I have to beg for forgiveness that I don't give a shit about?" The woman asked.

"No. This is the part where you leave crying because Luke loves Michael and doesn't want your stanky, hoe ass all up in his house. So you best be leaving that house or I'll fly my ass over there to pop a bitch or two." I said and she laughed.

"I don't care, just needed a fuck." She said and there was rustling. "Bye Luke." She said and then there was a door closing.

"Michael, let me ex-"

"I called to fix things because we miss you and Calum said you missed us, but it seems that you're doing just fucking dandy." Michael said. "Have fun getting genital herpes Hemmings."

"Michael. Katelyn. Wait please." He said before Mikey could end the call. "Don't-Don't hang up." He begged and I stopped Michael.

"Be optimistic. Have an open mind." I said quietly and he nodded.

"Fine." He said and nodded. "Go on Hemmings." Michael said and the front door closed as the smell of pizza filled the house.

"I need you back Mikey. I really need you. I'm so sorry for hurting you and I'm so sorry for making you cry. I know I said I'd never hurt you but I did and I'm so sorry. I hate myself for hurting you Mikey. There's not a moment that passes where I don't feel so much fucking remorse." Luke begged into the phone.

"Maybe you should apologize after your voice goes back to normal, so a few days. It sounds like you had quite the fucking last night." Michael growled into the phone. "Bye Luke."

"Mikey please-"

Michael hung up the phone and then tossed it on to a part of the couch that wasn't occupied. "I'll grab the beer, Calum, bring him the pizza." I said and and stood up.

Michael grabbed my wrist and pulled me close to him. He wrapped his arms around me and cried into my shoulder. I patted his back and let him cry into my shirt.

"It's going to be okay Michael. Remember your song? It won't be long, you know it's gonna get better." I recited and I heard Calum laugh loudly.
