Chapter Fourteen
Katelyn's point of view
"You're not going to school today." Michael said as I fixed my tie. "Change out of that outfit and out something else on. You're coming with us."
"I have tests-"
"This is more important." He said and then closed the door. I groaned a small quickly began to unbutton my school shirt.
I stripped the uniform off and then threw it aside, tired and exhausted. I scratched the top of my boobs a bit since my hair was making it itchy and then I looked in my closet.
I pushed my hair back and then grabbed the water colored camisole. I put it on, hiding the straps of my light purple bra a bit. I threw a leather jacket over it and then I pulled on some ripped black skinny jeans.
I ran a hand through my hair and then picked up a pair of heeled combat boots. After pulling some socks on, I slipped the boots on and then zipped them up.
I stood up and then yanked my jeans up some more because the camisole was cropped and flowy at the bottom. I put on some chord choker with a silver dream catcher on it and small chains that fell right under the chord.
I put my phone in my back pocket and then called Jacob, knowing full well that he'd be getting dressed right now. "Hello?" He asked and I walked downstairs.
"Jacob, hey, I'm not coming to school today. Michael said I have to come somewhere with them and that it's more important than my tests." I said and then grabbed an apple.
This makes brushing my teeth a bit useless but whatever.
"And he calls me irresponsible." Jacob said and I laughed, sitting down on the couch beside Michael. "Anyways, I'll tell the teacher that you have some family business I guess. Maybe I'll slip some answers on a paper for you aswell." He said.
"Lifesaver." I said and smiled. "Well, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye Jacob. Stay safe while driving and no smoking while driving." I said, making the end sound stern.
"Bye love and I'll try. Love you." He said and then hung up. I blushed a bit and then typed him a quick 'love you too'.
I put my phone away and Michael looked at me. "Did you know Calum smokes too?"
"Wasn't aware." I said and he nodded. "They're their own person, let them make their own decisions I guess. You can't help someone when there's nothing to help with."
"I guess." He said and nodded. "So, um, he's coming from over for dinner on Friday night?" He asked me, cutting the awkward silence.
"Yeah, he said he'll be there." I told him. "He also asked me to ask you if I could go to the mall with him to go buy costumes for Halloween." I said and gave him my puppy dog face.
"That's fine." He said and I smiled. "As long as it's appropriate and we agree with it. Nothing too revealing but nothing too childish." He told me.
"I'm gonna be an angel. If I cant find the stuff for that, I'll pick something cliché like a vampire or princess or something." I told him and he nodded.
"What does Jacob want to be?"
"He wants to be like a dark angel. All he needs is the wings and a few small accessories." I said and he nodded. I hummed and then he sighed.
"I'm not too comfortable with you hanging out around him alone you know. He's much older than you and is easily much stronger than you." He told me.
"He wouldn't dare hurt me and it's only two years. I mean, it's not that bad. He's my friend, it'd be kind of weird if we were dating, but we're not so it's okay. I mean, Ashton is older than Luke and Calum by like two years so it's whatever." I said and he nodded.
"But they're both dudes."
"Still." I said and he shrugged. "It's fine. He won't hurt me and he won't do anything that can hurt me. Trust me." I said and he nodded.
"One mistake-"
"He's fine. Stop worrying babe, they'll be fine. Let loose. I mean, how old were you and I when we became friends? You were two years older than me, chill." Luke said, finally seeing my point and noticing that it's not as wrong as he thinks it is.
"Fine. Let's go then."
-
"Michael? Luke? What are we doing?" I asked as I saw a bunch of cameras and and stage workers. A small audience sat in the corner of the room, a vast majority of them teenage girls.
I gulped a bit in fear as an unsettling feeling filled my stomach. "Are they... Are they recording... now?" I asked them and they shook their heads as we sat down on a black couch in theithe middle of the stage.
"They will be soon though." Luke said and I held on to his arm. "It's okay. You'll be fine. We're right here love." He told me as he pulled me closer to him, an arm over my shoulders.
"You'll only have to answer a few questions, I promise. No more then six or seven, opposed to ten or twelve." Michael said and rubbed my knee, making me nod.
Soon, a woman rushed out and took a seat in front of us as she patted her hair down. A man shouted 'start' and the lady cleared her throat.
"Good morning and welcome to Mornings with Lacinda!" She said happily, flashing a bright smile. I cowered down a bit because she was just so beautiful and the camera was making me freak me out.
"Today we have 5 Seconds of Summer and their special little guest!" She said and motioned to the two boys on either side of me.
Only half of 5 Seconds of Summer to be correct.
"Hello." Michael said and gave a curt nod. "How are you?" He asked politely to the woman.
"I'm wonderful, so glad that you guys could make it!" She said happily and smiled. "How are you?"
"A bit stressed but fine. We're fine." Luke said and then looked at me. "How about you munchkin?"
"F-Fine."
"She's adorable." The lady said and smiled. "Who are you love?" She asked me and I blushed a bit as all the attention was turned to me.
"This is Katelyn May Clifford, she's our little girl now." Michael said and her eyes widened. "She's adorable huh?"
"Very." The lady said and looked between us all as I shrunk back into the couch. "Please explain so like, you two adopted her so you're dating?"
"Um, indeed we are." Luke said and smiled. "We're like, one small family, us three." He told her and I just wished this couch would swallow me up.
"I see. So, she took your last name Michael? Does that mean you're the man in the relationship?" She asked them.
"We're both men so I guess that term is kind of useless?" Michael said and I laughed quietly a bit. "Um, if you're asking who's the more dominant one then um, it's kind of versitile I guess. We both have our share of things that we seem to like I don't know how to explain it. It's equal."
"That didn't answer the question Michael." Luke laughed. "She took his last name because he's older, that's all that there is to it."
"I see." She said and she looked at me. "So Katelyn, what's it like having them as fathers? Are they good at that job aswell?"
"I um I-I guess it's uh fine." I said and Michael rubbed my shoulders a bit. "They're like the parents in the um movies, really strict on something but like-like really cool with others." I said quietly and she nodded.
"Okay, so I tweeted your fans and asked them to send me questions to ask you guys when you get here. Most of them involved a video that's a little too explicit to show live, do you know what video?" She asked them and I really wished the couch would swallow me up now.
"Yeah, unfortunately. The one involving Katelyn and a boy? Yeah, we know." Michael said and she nodded. "What uh about it?"
"They want to know what happened before they choose sides of course." She said and laughed. "No, they just want it explained."
"Before we explain, just know that everything was solved and we are all cool now. No one is mad anymore and no one has grudges." Michael said and she nodded.
"It started off with a small fight between the band and Katelyn was home doing homework. Um, she came down when the arguemnt got a bit violent I guess." Luke explained.
"This is terrible. We're terrible people for fighting with a little girl in the house, okay, we know. In the moment we forgot about Katelyn and her strong feelings towards fights, and one of us threw a punch, not pointing fingers." Michael said and I looked down a bit, playing with my zipper on the jacket.
"Then Katelyn ran out of the house and to a nearby park with a boy because he's her closest friend. She didn't come home all night so we got worried, as parents, as anyone, would. We didn't know she was with him though, we just knew she was gone." Luke said and I shrunk further into the seat.
"Uh-huh, keep going."
"So when she came back with him in the morning, we got upset. They're teenagers, we know what teenagers do when they're alone and we know what they do when they're upset. So naturally, we got protective and we got upset because she should have and least told us she as okay." Luke continued.
"He had a smart mouth man." Michael said and I gulped a bit. "He was back taking me and I got a bit caught up in the moment. I was worried, upset, angry, so many negative emotions and I guess I snapped. Clearly."
"Which he's sorry for." Luke said in a warning tone and Michael nodded. "We're both really sorry for that whole episode, we didn't really mean for it to get so violent. We'd never actually hurt someone unless we were really, really upset-"
"Or they wanted it-"
"Michael!" Luke said and I blushed a bit as the interviewer laughed. "Anyways, we're sorry. Um, we never actually meant to sound so harsh, we were just really worried you know? She's fourteen, she's our little girl, we didn't want her to try and grow up too soon and feel like running away solves problems."
"Yeah, I'm terribly sorry for hurting him, physically and emotionally. Katelyn, I'm sorry darling. I know he means a lot to you, I didn't really mean to say those things and do those things." Michael said as he ran a hand through my hair a bit.
"It's not m-me you should be apologizing too." I said quietly and he smiled sadly before pulling me on to his lap. "It's um fine with m-me though. I for-forgive you." I said and leaned into his embrace.
"I'm glad." Michael said and kissed my forehead. "You're not scared of us after that, right?" He asked and I shook my head.
"No, it's o-okay." I said and hugged him. I smiled at Luke and he scooted closer to us to join the hug aswell.
"Katelyn, what's your side of the story?" The interviewer asked and I looked at her. She seemed heart warmed by our hug but she seemed into the story aswell.
"I um, there is n-no side. I shouldn't have d-done wh-what I did." I said and she nodded. "It was... It was wrong of me."
"I'm just glad you're not scared of us. I'd be frightened." Luke told me and I smiled as I looked down.
I am but I won't say it outloud. I'm not an idiot.
