Chapter 24
(This is so short and so bad that I'm literally cringing while I cry, I am so sorry. I'm a shit author, I know.)
Michael's point of view
"This is all my fault." I cried after Luke told us what the doctors told him. "It's my fault he's in a coma. It's my fault he hurt himself. I'm so sorry."
"Michael, it's not your fault-"
"I pissed him off and-and I broke him and his trust. I hurt him and I'm so sorry. I can't control myself, I'm so sorry." I cried and stood up.
"Michael, I'm am positive there was more into this than whatever you did, okay? Collin... he has depression and suicidal thoughts, he always had. Don't blame yourself. You know you're not to blame." Kayla said and I sniffled.
"Exactly. There is a deeper reason. Calm down okay? This isn't your fault. You could never push him to this point by yourself. Obviously it was because of something else or his urges. It's an addiction Michael." Luke told me.
"No. I-I betrayed him. I told him he could trust me an-and I ruined it. I yelled at him when I knew he was r-right and I told him some pretty b-bad things. He was so broken L-Luke. He said he hated me. He hates me Luke. I broke him right when he started g-getting everything together. I broke him!" I cried, falling out of my chair and on to my knees.
"You didn't." One of Kayla's mum's told me. "It's okay Michael. Calm down okay? Breathe. In and out."
"I'm so sorry." I sobbed into my hands. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to. I didn't mean to scream and yell. I didn't know what I was doing. I can't help it. I can't stop myself from yelling and tearing people down. I can't control myself when it happens. God I'm so fucked up." I said and someone hugged me.
"D-Don't touch me, I'm a monster." I said, trying to push them away. "I'll hurt you. I only hurt people. Everyone I get close to, I hurt."
"That's not true Michael." Luke said. "You don't hurt everyone. Stop it. You're not a monster."
"I hurt you before Luke. I'd tease you until you'd cry and beg me to stop. I-I'd yell at you and I made you afraid to get close to people. I hurt everyone in some way and I don't mean to." I gasped and the person only hugged me tighter.
"You never hurt me." Kayla said and I looked up. She was the one who was hugging me. "You never made me cry or feel bad about myself."
"That's why I stayed away from you..." I clarified and she nodded. I remember her asking me if I didn't like her because I went up to my room everytime she was here, but that wasn't the case.
"Still." She countered. "You never hurt me so you don't hurt everyone around you. Calm down okay? We don't need two people in the hospital beds." She told me and I stayed quiet for a bit.
"He shouldn't even be in a hospital bed." I mumbled and she sighed. "He should be at school, having fun and learning new things. He should be hanging out with you and painting."
"School is a bad idea."
"Why?" Luke asked her. "Surely gym and mathematics isn't that bad." He said and she sat down on the floor beside me.
"I don't have math with him, buy gym is pretty harsh. He's the target since he's smaller than all of the other boys and is usually standing out in all black." She explained.
"We bought him gym clothes though."
"He doesn't wear them because they're too baggy and it makes him uncomfortable. He hates the uniform." She said and Luke nodded, asking about what else goes on in school.
"I-I can't tell you this... he didn't want you guys knowing." She said and sighed. "But you didn't hear this from me okay? I didn't tell you this." We all nodded and she rubbed her arm.
"He gets bullied and most of the time is verbal, but sometimes it's physical. The bruises are usually on his wrists or stomach so no one can see them." She said and I tensed. "They tell him he's-he's not good enough and that he should just kill himself. They say that he's a waste of space and is unimportant."
"Wh-What?" I asked, my heart breaking. "Oh my god." I whispered as I ran my hands through my hair. "That's just fucking amazing. God, I'm such an asshole."
"I would expect that you'd know that since you read his journal." Kayla said nonchantly and her mum gasped, telling her that was rude.
"N-No, it's true, it's okay." I said and wrapped my arms under my legs. "I uh didn't read it all, just the first few pages." I mumbled and she sighed.
"Why?"
"We needed to know what was going on." Luke answered. "He doesn't talk to us anymore. He doesn't tell us what's going on unless we force it out of him, catch him in the act, or get someone else to tell us." He said and I nodded.
"Snooping through his stuff won't make him trust you." Kayla said and I sighed while nodding. "Quite the opposite."
"I'm well aware of that now." I muttered and she sighed. "I-I hope he wakes up soon. I need him. He's the closest thing to a sibling that I've got besides for those three."
"He'll be okay." Jenni said and I nodded. "I promise. He's a strong boy yeah? He can pull through."
Suddenly, my phone began to ring and I pulled it out of my back pocket. "He-Hello?" I asked quietly, not looking yo see the caller ID.
"Michael?" Our boss asked, his tone angered. It scared me honestly. He can get really cruel when he's angry.
But he's not on your level. You're a monster, angry or not.
"Yes sir?"
"What is this I'm hearing about you shoving a fan out of your house after screaming at her and Ashton swearing at fans for wanting a picture?" He asked me, his tone anything but amused.
"You-You see-"
"No, Michael, I don't see. What in the world is going on? Why do you think it's okay to be disrespectful and rude towards your fans? What does that make the band look like? It makes you look like fame and fortune has gotten to you and let your heads fly into the clouds." He told me and I could just see him sitting at his desk with his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose.
"No but s-sir-"
"There are no but's, or if's. I have scheduled an interview tomorrow and you will explain there. Don't you dare lie because apparently your fans have proof and posted pictures on the Internet." He said and I sighed. Fuck.
"Understood." I said and buried my head into my knees. "What time is it sir?"
"Noon. Be there or else." He answered and then gave me the address before hanging up on me.
"Boss?" I nodded. "What did he want?" Ashton sighed and someone began playing with my hair.
"We have to explain ourselves to the media and fans as to why we were being rude to them earlier." I said and Calum huffed. "We have to tell them about Collin too."
"He can't make us-"
"He is." I said, cutting Calum off. "We have to spill it all; him being in a coma, him basically being depressed and trying to kill himself, me yelling at a fan, you yelling at our fans, all of that."
"The whole shabang." Kayla's mum commented and we all looked at her, even her wife. "Just trying to lift the mood..."
"Mum, that word is older then you, stop." Kayla said and I laughed lightly. "Just... stop."
"I am barely thirty years old child. Who are you calling old?"
"Thirty thousand." Kayla snickered and I chuckled. I can see why Collin loves being around her. "Anyways, does it have to be all of it?"
"Yeah." I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. "This sucks man. I can't-I can't just spill all of his secrets like that. It's one thing to snoop through his things, but it's another to tell the whole damn world what's going on with him."
"It's the band or his trust." Jenni told us and I looked down and my lap. "It's the sad truth guys."
"It hurts because you're right." Ashton grumbled and I agreed. "He'll understand, right? We don't have a choice here honestly. We can regain his trust back... can't we?"
"It'll take awhile." Calum said and sighed. "We can do it but it will take awhile."
"I hope he wakes up soon." Kayla said softly and sadly. "I need him, like-like more than I need music in my life. I didn't know what feeling okay was until I met him."
"He'll wake up soon babygirl, I promise." One of Kayla's mum's said and I her Kayla mumble something.
"Don't make promises you can't keep."
