chapter fourty-three
- I feel like suddenly everyone hates this book and I wanna cry because no one is really reading/voting/commenting on it as much anymore xc -
Vanessa's point of view
Me and Calum sat in a car, singing along to Panic! At The Disco and whatever else came up on my Thumbprint radio on Pandora. The windows were rolled down and the music was loud, probably barely making it under the decibel that could get him pulled over.
"Hey, where will you be waking up tomorrow morning?" We sang to each other. "Hey, out the backdoor, goddamn, but I love her anyway."
I laughed as I clapped along to the song. "I love her anyway." He continued to sing since he didn't want to take his hands off of the wheel.
I looked out of the window and laughed lightly as I saw the glowing carnival beside the boardwalk. I hummed and glanced at Calum as the song ended and I ran a hand through my already messy hair.
"If I had a dollar for every time I saw you staring at me, I'd have enough to buy out my own tour." He said and looked at me quickly.
"I think that's a little exaggerated." I said and smiled as I shook my head. "A concert maybe, but not a tour." I told him and he laughed.
"Still bad."
"If you think of it like that, maybe I just won't look at you." I said and rolled my eyes. "I'll just stare and anyone and everyone besides you."
"Don't you dare." He said as he held my hand, his free hand still planted on the steering wheel. "What is this garbage?" He said and I laughed.
"I don't know, I hate these guys. Why are they on my pandora?" I asked as he laughed too.
"I like the summer rain, I like the sounds you make, we put the world away, yeah we're so disconnected." I sang softly and looked at Calum.
"I uh blah blah blah disconnected." He said and I rolled my eyes. "Hey, we have lots of songs, I can't remember them all!"
"Calum 'I can remember song lyrics to every song but my own' Hood." I said and he nodded, telling me that was pretty accurate.
I changed the song and it was a song from Beyoncé. "Queen." Calum commented and I shrugged, not necessarily agreeing but not disagreeing at the same time.
"I sneezed on the beat and the beat got sicker." He said and I rolled my eyes as I set my phone down, clapping to the song as Calum danced in his seat, singing the song.
I closed my eyes as I listened to the song, not really paying attention to the lyrics. I hummed softly to the lyrics and then looked at Calum as he turned the song down a bit.
"I feel like now that we aren't on a highway, it'd be respectful to turn it down." He said and I nodded, saying that kind of made sense.
I stuck my arm out of the window again and looked at the clock on the radio, seeing that it was around six pm. "Woah there daddy, daddy didn't bring a towel, oh baby, baby we better slow it down-no wait what?" I said, thinking about what I just sang loudly.
"Fun." I commented as Calum laughed. "Kinky." I said and chuckled a bit myself as Calum changed the song.
"You like dirty songs."
"You can't judge because I've seen your private Spotify playlist." I said and looked at him as Or Nah played. "You have all versions of this song."
"Shush." He said and we both laughed a bit. "I want to sing along but I feel like Luke would miraculously find out and then kill me."
"It's a song Calum." I said and chuckled. "All these tattoos on my skin they turn you on, lotta' smokin', drinkin', that's the shit I'm on." I sang and he continued the verse as I nodded.
"At one point, all I listened to was this song and I loved it." I said and he chuckled. "Now it's more... eh." I told him and he nodded.
"We're here." He said and I put my phone away in my purse as he parked the car. He turned it off and I got out, shutting the door as I fixed my hair a bit.
He held his hand out and I smiled, taking it and lacing our fingers together. "You gotta stop smoking man." I said since he actually smelt lile cigarettes and he nodded.
"Trying, I promise." He told me and I nodded as we walked in. "I feel cliché, I thought you said you'd never let me be cliché again?" He asked me and I laughed.
"Sometimes cliché is good." I said and he nodded as he paid for our entrance fee. "You know, I feel really bad whenever you pay for stuff." I said and he laughed, showing me his wallet.
"It's stacked love, don't worry about it." He said and then put it back in his pocket. "Don't feel bad."
"I can't just not feet bad Cal." I said and he just shook his head, telling me to just not think about it. "Sunset is coming up, like another hour or so." I said as I put my wristband on.
"We can be cute and take pictures by the sunset and then post them with shadey and cringe worthy captions." He said and I laughed.
"Sounds like Luke and Arzaylea when they went through a tough spot." I said and he laughed. "I had to."
"I'm so done." He said and I nodded as I smiled. "What do you wanna do?"
"Besides just hold your hand forever, don't know." I said and he rolled his eyes. "Hey, don't judge me okay?" I said and he shook his head.
"Judging you so hard right now."
"Rude." I commented and he nodded as we walked around a bit, cracking random jokes and 'jokingly' insulting the band because Calum hates the band more than Luke.
-
"I'm dizzy." I said because we just got off of a ride. Calum agreed and I held my head in my hand as I laughed.
"Shouldn't have eaten that funnel cake before the ride." He told me and I rolled my eyes.
"I told you not to! But no, Pikachu knows everything!" I said and he laughed, asking me what the hell that means. "It's a thing my dad would say to me because they said Pikachu was apart of the illuminati. He was a moron."
"I see." He said and laughed as we walked around some more. We saw a photo booth and it was him who dragged me to it. I didn't question it at all, I just let him.
He put money in the machine and I laughed. "I look like garbage, save my soul." I said and Calum agreed as he fixed his hair.
He pushed a few buttons and then we took a bunch of pictures, most involves us looking like dipshits, but it was fun. I laughed, thinking we were done with them, but the camera took one more.
"Oops." I said and he chuckled as he kissed my cheek. "I didn't know there was one more."
"It's fine." He said and nodded. We got out of the booth and took the two strip of pictures. "You look absolutely adorable, I look like trash."
"Guess it's time to take the trash out." I said and grabbed his hand.
"Get out." He said and we laughed some more. My cheeks hurt a bit from laughing and smiling all day, but I didn't mind too much honestly.
I put the pictures in my purse and Calum looked around. "Wanna go down to the beach now?" He asked me and I nodded as we walked away from the booth, which another couple were running to with smiles on their faces.
"Race you." I said after we left the carnival. I ran from him and he yelled at me, telling me that wasn't fair because he didn't know.
He ran after me and I couldn't run too fast since I was in a dress... which I remembered like two seconds after I started. He picked me up when he caught up to me and I laughed as I clung to him, not wanting to fall.
"I call tie." He said and I nodded. He let me go and I pulled my somewhat tight dress down, along with my jacket.
My phone rang and I grabbed it, declining the call. "What if it was important?" He asked me as he put his hands in the pockets of his jeans.
"It was Alejandra, nothing she has to say is important." I told him and he shook his head as he laughed. "It's probably about the prom thing, oh well."
"I feel like a dick for making you be with me instead of your friend but at the same time, tonight has been fun so..." He said and I looked at the sand as I laughed.
"Don't feel bad, I didn't even know the guy." I said and he nodded as he put his arm over my shoulders. "Can I tell you something that's probably very weird but I feel like you should know?"
"Uh, sure?"
"A fan sent me a screenshot of a fanfic and we were in it and it was dirty." I said and he laughed. "Me and Miranda laughed so hard and commented hashtag illegal." I told him and he nodded.
"That's exactly what it is." He said and I nodded. He looked around, and when he noticed no one was really around, he cleared his throat. "So, that one time we got high..."
"What about it?" I asked and then laughed. "You get high easily by the way. It took me a lot, with you it was like a snap of the fingers."
"It's not my fault I can't handle it as well as I can handle my beer." He told me and I rolled my eyes. "Anyways, I feel bad for that night."
"Same." I said, feeling slightly awkward. "You could get in deep shit if anyone found out." I said and he nodded.
"That's why no one knows, right?"
"Miranda guessed it when I came to school stinking of weed and with five hickies." I said, glaring at him playfully. He rolled his eyes and then nodded.
"Anyways, besides the fact I could probably go to jail, I feel bad because it was the first time anything remotely dirty went down for you and you don't remember it." He said and I shrugged.
"Maybe I don't want to remember it."
"Trust me, you would like to." He said and I rolled my eyes again. "Just don't let anyone else know, yeah?" He said and I nodded, promising I wouldn't.
I stretched a bit and Calum pulled his phone out, taking a couple of pictures of the sunset. I pulled my phone out and did the same. I looked at him and he looked at me, laughing as we both took pictures of each other.
"No more flash photography please." He said and flipped his imaginary hair. I rolled my eyes and then took a couple more pictures of us, which he was surprisingly okay with.
"What's that?" He asked and ran closer to the shore. I watched him and then took a picture of his silhouette as he examined whatever he picked up.
I put my phone in my purse and then kicked my shoes off since these were white. I took my socks off, stuffing them inside of my shoes, and then held them as I ran up to him. "What is it?" I asked and he shrugged, telling me he didn't know.
"Looks like a metal bead." He said and handed it to me. He ran aside as he picked something else up and I looked at the bead in my hand.
I rolled it around and then looked at it in the best lighting I could get with the setting sun. "It looks like a pearl." I said. "It's rather big. Maybe someone dropped it?"
"I don't know." He said and then walked over again as he showed me a sand dollar he found. "This is how Ariel paid for her food." He said and I laughed.
"You're an idiot." I said and put the pearl into my jacket's pocket. "I'm gonna keep it and we can look at the thing later." I said and he nodded as he dropped the sand dollar, wiping his hands on his jeans.
"Oh shit that's cold." I squeaked as the waves splashed in around my ankles and calves. Calum laughed and then complained about his boots. "Take them off, that's what I did."
He nodded and copied me before walking with me. "There's flashes, why are there flashes?" He asked and we looked around. "Why? Why do they always manage to find us?"
"Because one person gets excited when they see you, they tell their friends, the friends post about it, and suddenly the world knows." I said and he nodded, saying that sounded pretty accurate.
"We could always just ignore them, even if they continuously keep flashing those fucking cameras." He said and I laughed.
"What's the difference between us taking pictures and them?" I asked and he shrugged.
"I know those will be magazine articles and stuff, with our pictures, I know they're not going to end up on the internet unless we choose. I guess it's the choice we have when we take them, we don't get a choice when they do." He explained and I nodded.
"Just ignore them." I said and he wrapped an arm around my waist as I leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Can do. Will do." He told me and I laughed lightly.
