chapter fourty-four
Vanessa's point of view
"Is he mean?" I asked Luke as he combed through his hair. "Your boss I mean."
"He's more strict than mean." He told me and I nodded as I crossed my legs. "Hey Arz, have you finished in the bathroom yet? I need to finish getting dressed too."
"I'm naked Luke, I'm not letting you in here!"
"What's so bad about that?"
"Dirty." I said and shook my head as he fixed his black tie. "I'm going to go downstairs." I said as I heard the front door open. He nodded and I walked downstairs.
"Hey Luke! You guys almost ready?" Michael yelled and I looked at him. "Don't you look fancy." He said and I nodded.
"I didn't like it, so I'm in leather." I said and he laughed, agreeing with me. "Hi guys." I said and waved at Ashton and Calum.
"Hello love." Ashton said and smiled as he sat down on the couch. "You look adorable."
"I know." I said and Calum just laughed. "I'd rather be in jeans but Luke and Cal said I had to dress really nice." I said and stuck my tongue out at him.
"You do!" Calum said as he adjusted his blazer. I sat down on a chair and then crossed my legs a bit.
"How tall are those heels, god damn girl. You're gonna break your ankle." Michael said and I looked and them.
"Four or five I think?" I said and he nodded. "I normally wear four inches though, so oh well." I said and he nodded.
"I'm ready, Arz finally let me floss and put hairspray." Luke said and he walked downstairs. "Only took me ten minutes of begging."
"He's not exaggerating." I said and Ashton laughed. I stood up again and then pulled my dress down a bit. "It's hot, I'm gonna sweat through all my make-up." I told them and Calum agreed.
"What? Being pretty doesn't just happen." He said and flipped his imaginary hair. "I have so much make-up on, it's not funny."
Michael, being Michael, lucked his thumb and then rubbed it along Calum's cheekbone. "Are you sure that isn't just your greasy ass skin?" Michael asked and Calum made a weird face as he wiped his cheek.
"You practically licked me!" He said and I laughed with Ashton and Luke. "Ew." He said and stood up, getting away from Michael.
"I'm done. Is Bryana coming?" Arzaylea asked and I looked at her.
"God damn." I said and looked at Luke. "You nearly dumped her?" I asked and Luke nodded as Arzaylea rolled her eyes.
"But I didn't because I realized how big of a mistake that would have been." He said and smiled as he put his arm around her waist.
"Bryana's gonna be a little late because of her job, she's going to meet us there." He said and she nodded. "Anyways, are we all ready? Can we leave now?"
"Yeah." Arzaylea said, grabbing the keys from Luke. "I don't trust you driving after you had a couple of beers." She said and Luke nodded.
"That's fair."
-
"I feel underdressed." Michael said as he fixed his tie. "They look like millionaires, I look like I came out of a trash can." He said and I shook my head.
"You look fine." I said and he nodded as he ran a hand through his hair. We sat down at a table towards the back and Calum got into the chair beside me. Arzaylea said on my otherside and I fixed my pinky ring.
"He'll be here in no time." Ashton said and I nodded. "Word of the wise, our boss likes cars, Harry Potter, rock n roll music, and money." He told me and I nodded.
"Stuff I know a lot about." I said and chuckled as I played with my bracelets. "Is got this in the bag."
Not too long later, a man walked in, dressed in a neatly ironed suit, with his wife, who wore what seemed to be a thousand dollar dress, and their son, who looked at me wide eyed.
"Vanessa?"
"Keath?
"That's Keath?" Michael asked me and I nodded. "As in the boy from the prom thing?" He asked and I nodded again.
"That's Vanessa?" His mother asked and I looked at Calum. "Oh my..." She said and it was silently awkward.
"Sit down! Sit down!" Ashton said, trying to put the awkwardness aside. They sat down and I gave Keath a small smile.
"Hello." His father said and I shook his hand. "I'm Charles, their manager. This is my wife Jasminda, and I believe you have already met our son, Keath."
"Hello." I said and nodded. "Me and your son go to school together." I said and he nodded as I sat back down, scooting my chair in.
"So Vanessa, what so you like to do?" Jasminda asked as she grabbed the glasses of water that were already set on the table for us.
"I like messing around with the bass and mashing up songs. I also like singing, sleeping, playing video games, and sometimes I like to cook." I said and he nodded. "Oh! I also like to watched Harry Potter movies over again, and Disney movies."
"Whats you're favorite movie?" He asked and I hummed. "Harry Potter of course."
"Can't decide, I loved them all honestly." I said and he nodded, telling me he thought the same.
"So, I heard from Ashton, and the media you miraculously got Steven Tyler to come hang out?" He said and I nodded as his wife talked to Luke about wardrobes.
"Uncle Steve is a family friend. I spent thirty minutes digging for his number and we arranged this secretly because I wanted it to be a surprise. He'll be in LA again soon, if you wish, I could always see if he has the time to meet you." I said and he chuckled.
"That's be wonderful, but you don't have to." He said and shook his head as the waitress came by.
Michael and Calum stared longer at her than they should have, and she shifted uncomfortably. "What-What can I get for you guys?" She asked and out of not only respect for her, but my own slight jealousy, I pinched Calum's side.
He jumped and then looked at me. "Hi, um, may I have a water?" I asked kindly and gave Calum a small glare.
"Of course, for the rest of you?" She asked, seeming a little more comfortable now that Calum wasn't also staring at her like she was his dinner.
They all ordered and I still felt a little jealous, maybe not as jealous as others would be though. "So, London huh?" Keath said and the band nodded, saying that they were excited to start up tour again.
"Bry!" Ashton said and I looked as she walked over, wearing the same dress again me, just a red one. "I'm glad you could make it." He said and they shared a hug before she sat down.
"Sorry, the studio was more hectic today than its been all year." She said and we told her it was okay.
"Are you excited to be going to London?" Charles asked me and I nodded. "How excited?"
"Very excited. I almost cried when they said I could go." I told him and he chuckled. "I've always wanted to travel. I want to see the entire world honestly, it's my dream."
"Maybe your dreams will come true while you're with us." Michael said and winked. I laughed and shrugged, telling him that maybe they will.
Calum, being as protective as he is, wrapped an arm around my waist, careful not to make it too obvious. "So, I heard you and Calum are a thing." Charles said and Keath looked up, looking between me and Cal.
"I uh, yeah." I said and nodded, playing with the strands of hair that weren't pulled into the half ponytail. "We are. Is that okay?"
"Well it's not... it's not, not okay." He said and the waitress came back. "Thank you so much." He said and she nodded with a smile ad she gave us our drinks.
"Are you ready to order or would you still like a few more minutes to decide?" She asked and Calum asked for the specials.
When she finished, Calum asked what her favorite here was. "I love pasta and seafood myself, so the shrimp fettuccine with steamed broccoli and dirty rice is my personal favorite." She told him and he said that he'll have that.
They all ordered and I looked at the menu, seriously not very hungry because I ate earlier, and because Calum's gaze on her chest made me uncomfortable myself. "I'll have the chicken salad, thank you." I said and she nodded as she wrote it down.
We gave her our menus and Charles cleared his throat again. "You and Calum-"
"Calessa-"
"Yeah, Calessa," he said and looked at Michael. "It's fine. From what I see, most people don't care at all, it's the media and the die-hard fans that really care. From the articles I've read, pictures I've seen, and videos I've watched, I've seen both arguments on the subject, both with very valid points." He explained and I nodded.
"My only concern on this subject is its lack of strength. Everyone is saying this will blow over and if it does blow over, if you break up, Calum's reputation will now have the bullet 'dumped fifteen year old girl' right besides 'can't keep it in his pants'." He said and I laughed.
"I think, if we're being realistic here, Vanessa would dump him first. Honestly speaking." Michael said and Ashton agreed, Bryana following, Luke ending it.
"That makes me seem like the bad guy. I'm not a bad person." I said and scratched the back of my neck. "That's not going to happen." I said and Charles nodded.
"If you can promise me this can last longer than three months, then I'm fine. If you think this thing isn't going to work, it's best you break-up and I'll get you out and partying in a snap of the fingers." He said, looking between me and Calum.
"This conversation makes me so uncomfortable." Luke said as he looked up from his phone.
"No one asked you." Charles and I said together and then laughed.
"Damn Luke, what's it feel like to be slayed?" Arzaylea asked, holding a pretend microphone to his mouth.
"Fuck you." He said and we all laughed. "I need to use the restroom, excuse me." He said and stood up.
"Vanessa, how's Alejandra?" Keath asked and I rolled my eyes.
"That fu-freaking chick isn't even my friend." I said and he nodded. "Never was. Never will be. She's fake, she's rude, and she's attention seeking, and I am allowed to say this after she leaked my number and recorded a conversation to leak it on the internet." I told him and he nodded.
"I heard about that." He said and I nodded. "Did you change your number?" He asked me.
"It's gonna get turned off and I'm going to have to get a new one for the UK." I said and he nodded. "It'll change my number for me."
"Got it." He said and nodded. His mom asked about where I got my clothes and I looked down.
"Um, I don't know. The internet I think." I told her and she nodded. "All I know is this jacket was expensive and these shoes were too. The dress wasn't even eighty dollars."
"It was pretty cheap." Bryana said and nodded since we had the same dress on.
It kind of made me feel insecure actually, because I knew she pulled it off better than I did. Red was her color, it really was.
"You never answered my question." Charles said and looked between me and question. "Can you pull off over three months to prove this isn't some kind of quick fling?" He asked and I let Calum answer for us since he was older and has had more experience with relationships.
"Yes." He said and nodded, smiling smally. "Of course we can. If not, then I guess I have to write sad break up songs for the next album." He said and I laughed.
"I get songs written after me, that's amazing." I said honestly and he laughed as he nodded.
