chapter fourty-five
Vanessa's point of view
"If you could be anything in the world Ashton, what would you be? Besides the occupation you have now of course." I said and he hummed.
"I'd be an astronaut." He said and I looked at him. "I feel like it'd be cool to find out more about the universe and stuff. You?"
"My dream job, besides taking my dad's place in the hall of fame..." I said and he laughed. "If we're not talking about music jobs, I'd want to own a restraunt. I've always enjoyed cooking and baking, I feel like if I tried, I could make a profession out of it if this music stuff goes south."
"You can cook pretty well." He said and I smiled, feeling a bit cocky. "Have you packed for the UK yet?" He asked and I nodded.
"I left some stuff out, but yeah I'm packed." I told him and he nodded. "What's it like always being on the go? Like, Calum said it's thrilling but... but is it really?"
"Explain what you mean by that."
"Like, yeah it seems fun, but it seems... tiring I guess. You can never just sit down and enjoy where you are, you're up and down. You wake up in one city and go to sleep in another just to repeat it. The fast life seems... it seems more exhausting than it is thrilling, especially when you have to perform and stuff." I told him and he shrugged.
"It gets tiring but like-you just gotta think to yourself like-man, I'm in another city with my brothers and we're doing what love to people who love us and it's just, it's enough to keep your eyes open and to keep you up and ready to go." He said and I nodded.
"I don't know if you can relate, but when you grow up in a small town and go to a school where no one really talks to you, a family that's not as great as it could be, and you're barely scraping by, then you come to a life like this it's just-it's amazing. It's so fulfilling and it's so... and you feel so proud of yourself and grateful for those who help you get to where you are, from a small town in Australia to all over the world. It's really a... sit back and enjoy the ride kind of thing because it's going to end soon whether we want it to or not." He said and I chuckled.
"Thanks for making my heart stop." I said and he laughed. "I don't mean to sound weird, but this band helped me through so much. I can't really explain it because it's just so much, but the idea of this band stopping one day is enough to make me cry. You guys really took a huge toll on my life, before I knew you and after." I told him and he nodded.
"You see, that's literally why we keep making music. Not only do we enjoy it, not only does it help us, but if we can write a song that can help someone, that's it. We already made it. Doesn't matter if it's number one, if it gets recognition by media, or whatever. If it can make someone think life is worth living or help them be more themselves, then we already won." He said and I smiled.
"I remember going on Twitter and seeing so much shit on you guys and how you're rude, right? I'd sit there and think, I wish I knew what they were like behind closed doors, and now, I wish I never doubted this band. You're really only rude when you're mad." I said and he laughed as he grabbed his bottle of beer.
"Lots of crazy stories come up." He said and I nodded. "I wonder what's up now." He said and pulled his phone out.
I glanced at it and his timeline was buzzing about the UK tour, an upcoming award show, 'Calessa', 'Larzaylea', Coachella, and my phone number. "Let's leave now." He said and I laughed lightly.
"Aww Cal." He said and showed me a picture. "He's smiling so big." He told me and I smiled myself.
"He's so cute, look at him, oh my god." I said and fell back on to the grass, covering my face with my hands. "I'm going to cry, he's too adorable."
Ashton laughed and then showed me another picture. "When we went to start practicing the setlist." He said and I looked at the picture.
"I don't wanna see Luke's white ass." I said and tapped his phone, zooming in on Calum. "That's where it is boy, oversized sweaters and skinny jeans." I said and have him a thumbs up.
Ashton laughed and I chuckled as a notification popped up on his phone. "It's a reminder to go to sleep." I said and he laughed.
"Oops, that's not happening." He said and I nodded. "What do you see yourself doing in the future? Not job wise really, just in general?" He asked as he pulled his phone back.
"Don't know. All I know is I'm, for sure, going to live in Australia and I'm for sure going to have kids, adopted or biological." I said and he nodded.
"The thought of being a parent terrifies me. I grew up in a rough spot, with my dad gone and all, and I'm scared that I won't be a good enough parent. I won't leave, but I'm scared maybe whoever I'm with at that time will and life on the road is no way for a kid to be raised." He said and I looked at him.
"Same." I said and sighed. "I'm sure you'll be a great dad Ash, just don't do what your dad did." I said and he chuckled.
"Trust me, I'd never." He said and I nodded. "I don't know though. I feel like I'd be a bad parent, I'll never be home because of tour and when I am home it'll only be for a little bit."
"That's why you don't be a parent until you're done with the whole band thing. Or you can take a break, like my dad did, and then get back at it when your kid is old enough to understand." I said and he nodded.
"I'll never be over the band thing. This band is my life, without this band, I'd be miserable." He said and it just reminded me of the fact that Ash used to self-harm. "I feel like you don't understand exactly what I'm saying because you haven't experienced what I did, but-but life sucked before the band and without the band, with the guys and the song writing and everything, I feel like I'd be at home, very miserable."
"I feel like, you would have found a way to still be happy, content at least, with life because you don't seem like the kind of guy to be down for long periods of time." I said and he chuckled.
"Thanks Nessa." He said and I nodded. "I know that maybe I was a dick at times, but I was just looking out for you and Cal."
"It's fine." I said and chuckled. "I can't stay mad at you guys, not after all you've done to help me through my own hardships. I say it a lot, but only because it's true." I told him and he nodded.
"It's late, it's really late wow. We have a flight to catch at noon too. How about we head inside and go to sleep?" He said and I nodded.
I forced myself up and we tried getting inside, but the door was locked. "Fuck, my keys are inside and everything." He said and I laughed.
"I'll sleep in the pool, I don't care." I said and took my hoodie off. "I'm tired and there are air matresses in an open shed because Luke is a piece of shit who doesn't know how to lock stuff." I told him and he laughed, saying he'll just sleep on the lawn chair.
I went to the shed and then grabbed the air mattress. Ashton aired it up for me and I put my hoodie back on because it was kind of cold. "I'd text one of them but they're knocked out, none of them will answer their phones." He said and I nodded as I stretched.
"Think I'll get sunburned if is fell asleep in the pool?" I asked and he shook his head. "Great, I better not get sunburned." I told him and he laughed.
"Play some music off of my phone, I have a playlist dedicated to helping me fall asleep." He told me and I nodded.
I grabbed his phone and he told me his pin. "Bryana's birthday isn't very safe." I said and he shrugged as I went to his music.
I played his playlist labeled 'acoustic' and then he nodded. "Stay, for tonight, if you want to, I could show you, what my dreams are made of," he sang along softly to the acoustic version of the song.
He closed the air mattress and then handed it to me as he unplugged the pump. I nodded and tossed it in the pool, laying down on it carefully. "I'm going to drown in my sleep." I said and Ashton laughed as he laid down in the lawn chair.
"Don't die. I'll be responsible and I can't raised kids if I'm in jail for murder." He told me and I flipped him off. "Night, love you too."
"Night Ash." I said and used my arm as a pillow since I didn't have one.
-
"I can't believe you slept in the pool." Calum said as we walked on to the plane. I nodded and he laughed. "You're a moron."
"The door was locked, don't judge me you asshat." I said and the elder people we passed by looked at me as if I was stupid.
I sat beside Michael, Calum sitting beside Luke, and Ashton was stuck sitting next to some random girl. We were all close by, but I couldn't cuddle Calum because of our seating arrangements.
"I'm stuck with you." Michael said and grimaced. I nodded and he sighed as he ran his hand through his hair. "I guess. Just don't talk to me."
"Fuck you." I said and he rolled his eyes. "You're so rude. Luke, switch seats with me." I said but he shook his head, telling me that it wasn't happening.
"You're stuck with me." He said and flicked my nose. I crimkled my nose and looked out of the windows as Michael put out carry on bags away.
"God knows that freaking sucks." I said and he laughed as he sat back down again. "I hate you."
"Aww, I hate you too!" He said and gave me a hug. "Hate at first sight." He said sniffled, wiping away a fake tear.
"I'm sleepy Mikey." I said and he nodded. "I'm gonna sleep, okay?"
"Same. Just make sure you're buckled and stuff." He told me and I nodded as I closed my eyes, my arm covering the belt around my waist. "Dream of landing safely."
"Fuck you." I said and he told me not to swear. "Get bent." I said and he just laughed.
