I walked into the theater and found the entire cast and crew of Heathers getting ready for my birthday party.

"You guys do not need to go all out for this." I said.

"Yes, we do. It's your 13th birthday." Ryan said. "Now, are your friends coming or not?"

I heard a knock on the stage door. Elle opened it and Cesca ran in with a massive present.

"Oh my God, Francesca. No." I said, rolling my eyes.

"Francesca yes! Happy birthday." Cesca said, hugging me. "I missed you."

"Dude, the last show was yesterday!" I cried.

Jessica saw Cesca and waved, but was messing around with her computer.

"Jess, what are you doing?" I asked.

Jessica said, "It's a surprise." and I sighed. Then, Emily and Lachlan came in at the same time.

"Happy 13th, kid!" Lachlan said. Evan came up and slapped him. "Hey! I'm the only one who calls her kid!"

"Evan Todd. Do not slap my castmates." I laughed, and Evan hugged me. "Happy birthday, Cat."

Astrid ran in and attacked me in a hug. "Happy birthday! I brought sparkling cider!"

"Showing up here took some guts, time to rip them out!" I sung, and Jessica yelled, "CATLYNN SUNSHINE MCLEMORE THAT IS MY LINE!"

"Your middle name is Sunshine?"  Lachlan said, and I nodded. Then, Emily had gotten into the chips.

"Dude! Save the chips!" I said.

"No thanks!" Emily said.

"There are other people here!" Lachlan said, and started fighting with Emily over the chips.

"Karaoke time!" Jessica yelled, and we all went up on the stage. Jessica handed me a microphone and said, "You, Elle, and Ryan are doing the I Love You Song."

I smiled at Elle and Ryan, and Lachlan took the liberty of saying, "Ms. Ostrovsky. Chimerical."

"May I have a definition?"

"It means unreal, imaginary, visionary, wildly fanciful, highly unrealistic."

Elle started singing the "Ooooh..." and I sung, "If I go to Washington, will I be on my own? Because if I go to Washington, who will be my chaperone?"

Elle sung her verse, and when Ryan sung, "I love you!" I started crying, and said, "And my dad says!"

And then finally, my verse started. I sung it with all my energy, and I was crying. After the song was over, I ran into Elle's arms, crying, and everyone clapped.

"You're such a beautiful singer!" Elle said, kissing me on the head.

I got an idea. I typed on Jessica's laptop and said into the microphone, "This next song is dedicated to my mom, Elle McLemore. Elle, I love you so much. Thanks for always being there."

Elle started crying, and I started singing, "There was a boy I met in kindergarten. He was sweet, he said that I was smart. He was good at sports and people liked him. And at naptime once, we shared a mat..."

Katie looked at Elle, who was crying. I smiled at both of them and kept singing.

"Last night I dreamed a horse with wings flew down into my homeroom. On it's back, there he sat, and he held out his arms! So we sailed above the gym, across the faculty parking lot. My kindergarten boyfriend and I, and a horse with wings!"

Elle was full on sobbing by this point. After the song was over, everyone clapped, and Elle said, "Oh my God! Sunshine! That was beautiful!" Jessica hugged me too, and said, "I'm proud of you, Sunshine."

Jessica had never called me Sunshine before today. I started crying too, and said, "Jess!" Jessica hugged me and kissed me on the head. Then, Ryan came in with a giant cake.

"Knowing Cat, she'll eat it all in 5 minutes!" Lachlan said. "Shut up." I said.

"Happy birthday too you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Catlynn! Happy birthday to you!" everyone sung, and I started blushing.

"Open your presents!" Cesca said, getting on the stage and pointing to a mound of presents. I stuck my tongue out at her and the cast gathered for presents. Elle put me on her lap and kissed my cheek. I grabbed a box, and the card said, "Olive."

"Cesca, what did you get me?" I said.

"That's not mine! I swear!" she said.

I hugged Evan and opened the present. Inside was a Heathers the Musical poster (signed by the cast) and a Spelling Bee poster. "Thanks Evan. I love it." I said.

"Now this!" Cesca said, banging a massive box in front of me. "is mine. I demand you open it." she said in a bad British accent. Ah, classic Cesca.

I opened the card, and it said,

Cat,
Happy birthday. So glad I was your Leaf. AND WE'RE GOING TO THE SAME SCHOOL NEXT YEAR!
See you in 8th grade!

I opened the box, and inside was a backpack. But not just any backpack. It was one with a collage of pictures on it. Some from Spelling Bee, some from here at the theater. I don't know where Cesca got the pictures with me and the cast from. She must've planned this in advance.

"Thank you so much, Cesca! I love it!" I hugged her, and reached over for another present. Lachlan said, "This is from the entire Spelling Bee cast. Hope you like it!"

I opened it up, and inside were tickets to Disney World. For the week after Heathers would shut down.

"Oh my God! Thank you so much!" I said, hugging Lachlan and Emily. Sadly, the rest of the cast couldn't come today.

"We knew you would be sad about Heathers, so we decided to go on a trip to take your mind off of it!" I hugged them again, and then Elle said, "This is mine, Katie, and Barrett's gift. It's nothing special."

Happy 13th birthday to the most beautiful girl I know. I'm completely blown away by your talents.  I love you and I love being your adoptive mother.

I opened the box, and inside were front-row tickets to Heathers. For the closing night.

"What the heck?" I yelled, and I hugged Elle. "We're bringing you up on stage and introducing you to the world." I was crying again, and I hugged each of the cast members.

Jessica gave me a Starbucks gift card and some stickers for my laptop. "Thank you so much!" I said to Jess.

Astrid said, "Here ya go. It's nothing special." I opened the box, and inside was a picture that Elle must've taken on my first day of school, walking out with Astrid. I smiled and hugged Astrid.

Ryan smiled, and said, "This is from me. It's actually kind of a gag gift for Elle too." Elle said, "What did you do?"

Inside the box was a bunch of pictures from Spelling Bee. The first one was Elle standing in the aisle with her juice box during Prayer of the Comfort Counselor. The second one was Elle spelling "Cow." The third one was me in that dance line during Pandemonium with Elle and Emily. The fourth picture was of me during the I Love You Song with Erin and Elliott, who played my parents. The fifth picture was during My Friend, the Dictionary, and Elle smiling at me. The sixth picture was of Jessica and Ryan shoving Elle out of her seat when she was called to be a volunteer. And finally, the seventh picture was of Evan catching candy. 

"Thank you, Ryan!" I said, hugging him.

"Let's get this party started!" Jessica yelled, and music started playing.

Elle took my hand and said, "Do you like your party?"

I said, "Yes!" and hugged Elle.
