"Alice, Evan, I have news." I said, smirking. Alice looked at Evan with a smirk and said, "Good news or bad?"

"Good. I may or may not have a crush." I said. Alice held her hand out and said, "Called it." Evan sighed and planted a $20 bill in Alice's hand.

"Wait, you guys were betting on me?" I asked. Alice started cackling and high-fived Evan.

"I'll take that as a yes." I said, laughing. Evan said, "So, is the crush your friend Angus?"

"Yeah." I said. Evan said, "Alice, give me that 20 bucks back."

"What, no! I won that fair and square." Alice said. Her and Evan started bickering like children, and I could not stop giggling. 

"Okay, you need to know how to get his attention." Evan said, adjusting me to a standing position. "Smile. Pretend like you don't have any feelings for him at all." 

I slapped a cheesy smile on my face, looking towards the wall. I heard Alice quietly chuckle, then Evan slapped her.

"Sunshine...honey...you look like you just committed a felony and are trying to hide it from the cops." Alice said. I could not help but laugh at the way she described it. "Smile a bit less."

I did as she said, and Alice shot me finger guns and nodded. "There we go. You got the smile down. Now, let's practice holding a conversation."

I was not good at conversation. Not at all. 

"I'll be Angus." Evan said. He sat on the couch and said in a horrendously deep voice, "So, Cat, what did ya think of the game last night." 

I started cackling. "Evan! Angus is not that type of guy! He's a theater kid, boy ballerina, guitar player! He's like E-Ethan!" I said, choking on my words when I said he reminded me of Ethan. 

I missed Ethan. I wished I could've gotten on common ground with him before he died. But the last time we ever interacted, I was about to get loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital. Not a nice way to end things with your ex-boyfriend. 

I hadn't spoken to Ethan's mother since the funeral. I had went to Ethan's funeral with Elle, but I barely remember it now. Mainly because my only focus that day was trying not to break down sobbing.

"Cat?" Alice asked, snapping me back to reality. I blinked a few times and said, "Oh, yeah, right. Where were we?"

Evan giggled a bit and said, "Enough with the conversations. We need you to look your best for school if you want to impress him." Evan ran to my closet and I heard a bunch of banging and racket. Elle popped out of her bedroom and said, "What's all the commotion?"

"Evan's putting on a makeshift fashion show for me, by the looks of it." I said. Evan came back with an armful of clothes, some of which I "borrowed" from Elle and Jessica. 

"Cat, you own nothing nice. Just jeans and T-shirts." Evan said. He tossed my painted jeans towards me with a blue and white striped shirt. "Try this." he said. I went to my bathroom and did as I was instructed. I came back out and spun around.

"Nah." Evan said. Then he handed me one of Elle's skirts. "Try this with that same shirt." he said. I went back to the bathroom and switched out the jeans for the skirt and came back to my bedroom.

"Perfect!" Evan said, clapping his hands. Alice nodded in approval. 

"Now. Hair." Alice said. She sat me down on the couch and started brushing her fingers through my hair. She gasped and then braided a few strands of my hair and clipped it in place. "Go look in the mirror, Sunshine." she said once she was finished.

I looked in the mirror and gasped. I looked gorgeous. Alice and Evan had done a great job with my glow-up.

"Great. Now, can I just bleach my hair? Then dye it pink?" I asked, joking in every way possible. Evan and Alice giggled and said "No." at the same time. I laughed and hugged both of them.

I took one last look in the mirror and spun around. I truly did look different. Older, even. I didn't even look like the same girl.

I couldn't wait another minute to go to school tomorrow.
