I've Been Thinking, Praying, Reading Some Magazines

Catlynn's POV

"Cat, do you want to come to the hospital with me?" Elle asked.

"No thanks. I'm gonna stay here and make sure everything's ready." I said.

"I'll be back soon with Jessica." Elle said.

Jessica was coming home today, and I was super excited. Sure, it wouldn't be the same, but she was out of the hospital. And that was all that mattered to me.

I started cleaning the apartment. I wanted everything to be perfect. I even cleaned up my closet. I took a shower and wore something that made me look at least decent.

Then, I heard the door open. "Cat! Jessica's home!" I heard Elle call, and I ran to the living room.

Elle was pushing a tired Jessica in a wheelchair. Jessica waved to me and I was smiling like an idiot.

"Jess! Oh my God, are you okay?" I cried.

"Hey, Sunshine. I'm fine, I swear. Just happy to be out of the hospital." Jessica said. Elle helped her on the couch.

"Well, you're home, so I'm happy." I said. Jess said, "Aww." and pulled me into a hug.

I then realized how different she looked. She had scars and bruises all over her, and she looked thinner. A lot thinner.

"I hate seeing you like this." I said. Jessica sighed, and said, "I'll be back to normal, Cat, I promise."

"Cat? Can I talk to you?" Elle asked me. I waved goodbye to Jess and Elle took me into her bedroom.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"Cat, Jessica isn't going to be moving around for about a month. So things are going to be pretty different around here." Elle said. I nodded, and said, "Yeah..." Elle sighed, and said, "We're not going to use the kitchen table for a while. We're probably going to eat on the living room floor for now." I nodded, and said, "I don't want things to change."

Elle sighed, and said, "I know you don't, Sunshine. Believe me, I don't want things to change either."

I still felt guilty. If I hadn't fallen asleep in the car, the crash would never have happened. Ryan and Elle told me not to blame myself, but I couldn't help it.

If Jessica had died, I don't think I would've ever forgave myself.

"Can we get takeout?" Elle said.

I started sobbing, and said, "I hate seeing Jessica like this..." Elle kissed me on the top of my head, and said, "I know, Sunshine, I know. I want things to be normal too. But just be grateful Jessica's alive."

"Believe me, I am." I said.

Elle sighed and took my hands, and said, "I didn't want to tell you this, but Jessica nearly died right after the crash. I got a call from Ryan at around 8:30, saying that Jessica was knocked unconscious and was bleeding."

________

Elle's POV

As I was telling Catlynn the story, the memory was vivid in my head.

My phone had rang at 8:30 that night, and I'd never forget what was said.

"Hello?" I said.

"Elle...it's Ryan...something happened."

"What...what happened?" I said, starting to panic.

"Jessica and I got in a car crash. The car involved hit Jessica's door. I'm at the hospital. Jessica was unconscious and bleeding."

I was shocked. How could I tell Cat?

"They put Jess in a coma. They...they said that's the only way she would survive. Even then, there's not much of a chance she'll live. Please don't tell Cat, I really don't want her to get worried." Ryan said.

"Oh my God...Ryan...I have to tell her somehow."

"Don't tell her...Jess...could die. Please. For me." He sounded like he was about to cry.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"I just broke some bones. I think." Ryan said.

"I'm going to tell Cat. Bye Ryan. I love you."

_______
Catlynn's POV

"Are you serious?" I said. I was totally in shock. Elle hugged me, and said, "I didn't want you to get worried."

"So my fears were true. Jessica could've died because of me." I said.

"Not because of you, Sunshine. You're overthinking. Deep breaths."

"That's...that's what Jessica said to me!" I said. I ran to my bedroom and cried my eyes out.

I heard a knock on the door a few minutes later.

"Cat? It's Jessica."

How could Jessica have gotten here? I opened the door and saw Jess in her wheelchair. She rolled in and then got herself up on my bed, with a little help from me. "Elle told me what happened. I'm so sorry."

"You could've died because of me." I said.

"No, Cat. It is true that I almost died, but not because of you. Did I tell you how I got in the crash?"

I shook my head, and said, "I don't even want to know. Spare me the details."

"Well, um, in short terms, there was a drunk driver who hit me. It had nothing to do with you."

"Yes, it does! If I didn't fall asleep in the car, it wouldn't have happened."

"Stop blaming yourself, Sunshine. I would've have left right after dropping you off even if you were awake."

"You probably would have talked to Elle." I said.

"True. But stop blaming yourself. It was a drunk driver."

I nodded, and Jessica hugged me. "I'm alive, Sunshine. I'm fine." Jessica kissed me on the cheek and said, "Do you want to go pop some popcorn and watch the rest of that Heathers bootleg with me?"

I nodded, and Jessica said, "Bring my wheelchair over here." I rolled Jessica's wheelchair over and helped her get back in.

Elle helped Jessica lay back down on the couch, and I popped some popcorn.

"Promise me you won't complain?" I asked Jessica.

"Promise." Jess said.

AN: YES EVERYONE, JESS WILL BE ALRIGHT. SHEESH. Hope you enjoyed! Catch ya later!
