And Will You Succeed? You Will, Yes Indeed!
"So. Violet Gardner's back. She started prancing around the house two days ago like a horse on caffeine." Red groaned. I laughed, Red roasting Violet was always a hilarious sight. They were cousins, so Red had the right to tease Violet without getting in trouble. At least, that's what I thought.
Seussical was in only a few days, and I was so excited. We were at one of our final dress rehearsals, and I was sitting on the stage with Red, Cesca, Rain, Sunny, Lachlan, Axel, and Cesca, dangling my feet off of the stage.
"What's all the chit chatter? Who has a love interest?" I heard, and Erin was standing there, Comet sitting on her hip. Erin put Comet down and sat down next to us.
"No one has a love interest! Except maybe Cat." Cesca said.
"MAYBE Cat? Of course Cat has a love interest! Look at her, she won't even respond to anyone! She's in a daze, staring at the wall..." Rain said, waving a hand in front of my face. "Yep. Cat has a crush and she won't tell us."
"Fine! I'll tell you!" I yelled, snapping back into reality. "His name is Angus Peters."
"Wait, wait, wait." Juno said. "You have a crush on that blonde dude who played Fritz?"
"Juno. He has a name, not just 'that blonde dude who played Fritz.' But he is cute." I said. "I applied for the charter school he goes to. And that was before I found out he goes there."
"Mmm-hmm. Evan must've found out and pulled some strings." Axel said. I laughed, then I saw our director come in. "We better get ready. Where's Emily, Bella, Victor, Astrid, and the others?"
"Not sure. They should be here any second. And look behind you. The backdrops came in." Sunny said, pointing towards the back. I turned around and smiled, the backdrops looked amazing.
"Um, guys? A little help?" I heard. Red was standing behind the big book that was in the corner of the stage. "I broke the door."
"How does one...break a door?" I asked, still trying to get my head around it.
"You tell me, daughter-of-a-Broadway-star." Red said, laughing.
"What does me being a Broadway star's daughter have to do with you somehow breaking the door?" I asked, giggling. "And we have to get started, so there."
"I hate you." Red said jokingly.
_______
"Have you ever had a hunch you should follow your nose? Then you had a sudden hunch you should follow your toes? Soon a sneaky hunch is whispering 'Better go straight.' And before you know it, oh, it's so late, late, late, late! Now a nervous hunch is telling you, 'You could be lost.' And it leads you down a path you have already crossed! Soon you're overwhelmed by hunches that pester and pinch and punch! And you know you're having a hunch!" Red sung.
I hated the song Having a Hunch. It was basically JoJo's nightmare. A living nightmare. A perfect song for a girl with chronic nightmares.
"You're nothing but trouble! Just trouble galore! You flooded my house, sent me marching to war! Filled my head full of Thinks, and you won't go away!" I yelled to Red.
I hated it. I shifted anxiously on my feet, wanting to run off stage and call Elle. But I had done that once, and if I do it again, everyone will think I'm a baby.
By the next verse, I couldn't handle it anymore.
"Mommy...I need Mommy..." I whispered to myself in the middle of the song.
I ran backstage and grabbed my phone.
"Mommy...I can't handle this anymore..." I said once Elle picked up.
"What's wrong, baby?" Elle asked.
"I feel...um...like...um..." I said, struggling to properly talk. Elle said, "Take your time, baby."
"There's a song that makes me feel like I'm living in a nightmare. I-it feels so real and I can't control it." I said, crying. I heard Elle sigh on the other line and say, "Oh Sunshine...it's okay. I love you more than anything else. Do you want me to come pick you up?"
"I don't want people to think I'm a baby!" I said.
"No one's going to think you're a baby, Sunshine. I promise you." Elle said, and I sighed. I felt like such a baby. An idiot, even.
"Sunshine? Cat?" Elle said, snapping me back into reality. I sighed and said, "I changed my mind. Can I go home?" Elle said, "Of course, Sunshine. I'll be right there."
________
"I'm gonna be the laughingstock of theater." I said, crying on the couch.
"No, you're not. Stop saying that." Jessica said. "You just got...wait, what happened?"
"There's a stupid song that reminds me of a stupid nightmare because of my stupid anxiety." I said, getting angrier by the minute. Why was I getting so heated over a song?
"Woah, woah, woah, what?" Ryan said, walking in the apartment. "Who got Cat mad and why?" Ryan picked me up and I grabbed onto him.
"No one got Cat mad. She just got scared over a song at rehearsal today, the poor girl." Jessica said. Ryan put me down and I ran to Elle and hugged her.
"As you can see, Cat's very huggy today." Elle said, getting my arms off of her. I pouted and hugged her even tighter "Now I can't let go. I refuse to let go." I said.
"Fine, Cat." Elle said, rolling her eyes. She picked me up and kissed my cheek.
"So what are we doing about this...song?" Jessica asked, ready as ever to send an email.
"Just send the email already, would ya? I'm gonna try to get Cat to sleep." Elle said, me still in her arms.
She rocked me back and forth and drew pictures on my back, which drifted me off to sleep.
AN: Poor smol baby Cat. I just got an idea for ABBMC while writing this, don't worry, it's a good idea. I promise. Hope you enjoyed! Catch ya later!
