Abi/Thayne - Day Out

(Written by ayeimalexa )

Abi's POV

Senior year was everything but fun, and I was at the point where you'd hear back from the colleges you applied to. My dream college, NYU Tisch, hadn't sent anything out yet. One Sunday afternoon I was sitting in my dad's dressing room, stressing about college acceptance. The matinee show had just ended, and in popped Thayne.

"Hey Lin, do you know where- oh, hey Abi!" He said, realizing I was sitting on the couch. He walked over towards me, then just examined my appearance.

"Abs, you'd be lying to me if you told me you're not stressed. What's on your mind?" Thayne asked, taking a seat next to me.

"I, I'm just really really stressed. Everyone is getting their letters of acceptance from their dream college and I haven't gotten anything yet. I probably didn't even get in." I explained, breaking down into a further mess than I already was. Thayne gave me a pat on the back, then said,

"Abi, you've gotta look at it differently. I know, it's really really hard, but believe me, you're in. Your dad would've fired me if I wasn't making sure you were improving over the course of all these years. Now go and freshen up while I get out of costume, we're having a Thayne and Abi day!"

"Wait, what? Really?" I asked, surprised he'd want to spend a whole day with me.

"Yes, of course! It'll be so much fun!" He exclaimed skipping away. I headed over to the bathroom to fix my messy hair and wash my sleepy looking face.

I opened one of the drawers beneath to sink and grabbed the straightener and brush that I kept as spares. I detangled my knotty hair, then straightened it. I was kind of bored with it being down, so I braided a small section of my hair, then pulled it all back into a ponytail. Once I was all done with that, I put my tools back in the drawer and pulled out a face wash that I stole from Groff. I put it on my face, waited three minutes, then washed it off with cold water. I heard a knock on the door, so I opened it up then hopped out. Thayne closed the door, then asked,

"Are you all set?" I gave him a nod, then followed him to my dad's dressing room.

"Lin, I'm kidnapping your daughter for the rest of the day. I'll buy her food and stuff, bye!" He explained, peeping his head through the minimally opened door, then walked away. I followed him out an exit that wasn't the stage door, and into the streets of New York City.

"Alright, first stop is..." Thayne trailed off, thinking.

"Thayne? What's our first stop?" I asked him, since he hadn't said where yet.

"Abi I was waiting for you to fill in the blank, ugh, you're too adorable. Where do you want to go?" He asked, leaving the floor open to do whatever I'd like.

"Hmm, I don't know. I just don't want you spending money on me, so wherever you don't have to do that, really." I responded, not wanting him to waste his money on me.

"Abi, I'm spending money on you whether you want me to or not. We need lunch, and I'll buy you some things from stores if you see anything you like. Sound good?" He asked, wanting me to confirm the plan.

"Yeah, but you don't need to get me lunch. I'm not really that hungry and food in the city is pretty expensive if you know what I-" Thayne cut me off and said,

"Please eat something, for me?"

I looked into his sad yet very serious eyes then gave in with a nod. Thayne cheered, then dragged me across the city.

"Alright, first I'm taking you to the M&M store. If you see anything you want at any store, tell me, I'm here to spoil you." He said, guiding me through Times Square. We eventually made it to the store, and were embraced with the strong chocolate scent of the sweets that surrounded us. I strolled around making sure to look at everything, while Thayne admired all of the candy.

Once we got to the second floor, I spotted something that would be really funny for Thayne and to wear. I walked over to the M&M robes, then chuckled.

"Thayne, look at these!" I exclaimed, holding one up in front of me. He laughed, then had a look for himself.

"I mean, they're pretty soft," Thayne admitted, "What size are you?" He asked, rummaging through each and every robe to look at the size tags.

"Adult extra small." I said, even though it would end up being a little bit short since I'm kind of tall.

"Okay, and snatched! I found it, we're getting these. Your dad might think I'm insane, but it'll be worth it." He explained, walking towards the register. Thayne paid for both of the robes, each being forty bucks, and we walked out with our big M&M bags in hand.

"Where to next?" I asked, looking at all of the different possibilities.

"Lunch! We're gonna have to find a place that has cookies, because fat kid over here is craving some at the moment." Thayne said, pointing to himself. I laughed as we continued walking through the city until we reached a diner.

Once we got a table, the first thing Thayne did was order a cookie from their bakery menu. To be completely honest, I was falling back into not eating as much, which had gotten better in the months prior.

"Alright, I'm getting the chicken salad with garlic bread. Have you looked at the menu yet, Abi?" Thayne asked. I guiltily looked at my lap, probably letting Thayne know that I hadn't even wanted to look at the menu. He slowly slid a menu towards me, which I ended up reaching for so that I wouldn't disappoint him.

"I'm proud of you kiddo, I hope you know that." Thayne said with a smile. I put down the menu, deciding I wanted a caesar salad, then replied,

"For what?"

"You've been through a lot. You're a tough kid, and you've managed to make it this far. I'm super proud of you, Abs, and you should be, too." He said. I smiled, surprised that someone was actually proud of me for managing to conquer my struggles in the past. Each and every one of them were hard to get over, and some I hadn't gotten over yet, but the fact that Thayne was being completely honest was what warmed my heart. The waitress eventually came to take our order, then brought Thayne's fresh cookie on a small dish.

"Thayne, smile for Snapchat!" I said, pulling out my phone. He held his plate in his hands with a big smile, and I snapped the picture.

"My dad is missing out on quality moments like these by not having a Snapchat. I don't understand what caused him to be like that, do you?" I asked, laughing at how much my dad hates the app.

"It started kind of early on, you know? He'd just grown to not like it, really. He gets all weirded out by the filters and all," Thayne explained, starting to laugh with me. The waitress brought both of our salads, including Thayne's garlic bread, and we both started eating our food. Well, eating being Thayne eating normally, and me nibbling at my salad. He eventually finished all of his food, but I had yet to finish even half of my salad.

"Abi, I know it's rough, and I know you don't want to do it. Take your time, we have all day, trust me." Thayne said reassuringly, since he saw me eating slowly. I eventually got around to eating about three-fourths of my salad, and after that Thayne paid and we headed out.

"Your dad texted me earlier saying he wants you back at your apartment by eight for dinner, so we can head back to my place and hang out if you want." He offered. I gave him a nod, and we decided to take a taxi to his apartment.

After a slightly bumpy and overpriced ride, we arrived at Thayne's apartment. The second we walked in, each of us went into a different room and put our robes on overtop of the clothes we already had on.

"Okay, on three, walk out of our rooms," Thayne said.

"One.. two.. three!" He said, and we each walked out of our separate rooms. We looked at each other, then burst out laughing. After we were able to recollect ourselves, we went to the family room and sat down on the couch.

"Okay, I say we watch Rent, does that sound good?" He asked, scrolling through Netflix.

"Do you know how mad my dad will get if he finds out we watched Rent without him?" I asked.

"That's why we only put it on Snapchat, he'll never know." Thayne said with a smirk. I nodded, agreeing with his plan, then pulling out my phone. Once the opening credits appeared on the screen, I took a picture and put it on my story.

About halfway through the movie, my phone started ringing. Thayne paused it, because we both realized it was my dad. Hesitantly, I answered, then put him on speaker.

"Hey dad!" I exclaimed.

"Abigail Miranda, do you need to tell me something?" He asked as if he was trying to dig something out of me.

"What? No, dad, if the Walters called they're still trying to blame me for the whole party thing. I swear I'd never drink or-"

"No, no. You mean to tell me, that you're watching Rent without me? How dare you!" He said, fake anger in his voice. Thayne and I tried our best to hold back our laughs, which sort of worked.

"What? How do you know?" I asked, curious how he knew if he didn't have a Snapchat.

"I'm on Periscope right now, young lady, and all of these people are telling me that you've been watching Rent with Thayne and didn't even bother to invite me." He said, speaking as if it were an actual problem.

"I promise, we'll watch it when I get home, dad. I love you." I said, hanging up the phone. Thayne and I started laughing at the fact that my dad might have actually been really mad at us for not inviting him to watch Rent.

We resumed from where it was paused, and I eventually started to fall asleep on Thayne's shoulder. The last thing I remember is feeling a blanket being wrapped around me, and Thayne whispering something along the lines of,

"Today was a fun day, Abs, I'm gonna miss you once you go to Tisch. I love you like a sister." I fell asleep completely, with a big smile on my face.
