Abi/Kevin - Wedding
My mom was finishing the lacing on the back of my dress, while Sasha was curling my hair, and Jasmine finishing my make up.
"I think you're done darling." Sasha said, adjusting my hair a bit, "you look so gorgeous, Kevins a lucky man."
"You really do." Jasmine smiled, "We'll give the two of you a little time." She said, and all of my bridesmaids left the room.
"Are you excited?" My mom asked, spinning me around.
"Mmhm." I nodded, smiling.
"You look lovely Mija, you really do, you're all grown up, my little girl is all grown up. I can't believe this." She kissed my forehead gently, "you finally found someone who loves you like your dad and I do, congratulations."
"I know, I love him so much, so much." I sighed, turning to look at myself in the mirror, nervously adjusting my hair.
"I know you do. It's in the way you look at him." She kissed my hair, then fastened my veil in my hair with a headband. As I was watching her do so, I heard my phone start ringing. My mom grabbed my phone and checked the caller ID. "Unknown number." She said.
"Yeah, don't want to deal with the cable company right now." I laughed a little.
"Ditto." She declined the call and set my phone back down. "I'm gonna miss you." She said, and hugged me, "I really am. I'm not ready to let you go. I know you'll be fine, I know everything's gonna be fine, but, you grew up. Look at you. Look, you're an adult, you're probably going to have a part in a Broadway show soon, I just, I feel like we adopted you yesterday."
"Mom, firstly, they probably won't call with audition results for another two weeks, it took a solid month for them to call me back for the first call back, also, I don't know. I just love you. You saved my life, and, and I'm grateful, I love you, you were the second person I knew to actually love me, and Dad was the first. I love you more than I can tell you. Thanks for being my mom."
With that we stopped talking and my mom just held me, gently stroking my back. We heard a knock at the door, meaning we should go. She took my hand and pulled me up. We finally stood nervously with the wedding party, and I watched as everyone walked in, arm in arm. My dad slipped his arm around my waist, and gently kissed my head.
"I'm gonna cry Peanut." He whispered.
"I know." I sighed.
"You grew up, you, you look like your mom." He added, "you did your hair the same way, and your dress, it's just, I love you, I'm not ready."
Just as he said he wasn't ready, the music started softly playing, and we walked out down the isle, my dads arm looped through mine. I looked up, and I saw Kevin standing at the alter, waiting for me. I smiled at him, then heard my dad cry a bit. I looked at my dad, who I saw was watching me and Kevin.
"That's the way your mom smiles at me." He whispered, "you look at him the way she looks at me." We reached the end of the aisle, and before I could hug my dad, he tightly squeezed me. His hug was long, and I knew he cried a little into my shoulder. "Go get married." He whispered, and pulled away from the hug, sitting next to my mom in the front row.
Eventually we were supposed to recite vows, and I nervously fiddled with Kevins gold ring, going over what I was going to say.
"Abigail." He smiled at me, "I'm not a writer, so this is going to suck, but, hopefully it gets the point across. You are everything. You mean everything to me, you are everything to me. You love me." He smiled, biting his lip, and I giggled, "you do, don't pretend you don't, I can tell. It's an amazing thing to be in love. It's coming of age, it's when you realize the difference between fondness and love, and Abigail I love you. I would sacrifice everything for you, I would sacrifice my job, my education, my friends, quite honestly I don't have much, but what I do have, if it stood in the way of me getting to come home to you at the end of a long day, I would destroy it. I love you, and you love me, and I feel so blessed." He took a deep breath. "I give you this ring, as an eternal symbol of my love and commitment to you." He said, and slipped the diamond ring onto my left hand.
"Kevin," I smiled, "I'm kind of a messed up person. I'm not an easy person to love, or like, for that matter. You found out I had PTSD after I accidentally stood you up for our sixth month anniversary. You probably should've made a run for it. You should've said this won't work, but you didn't. You wrapped me up in a blanket, and held me until I calmed down. Kevin, I'll never forget that. I didn't want you to know about my past, I thought it would change how you looked at me. I thought you would decide I'm too hard, or you would decide that you don't want to devote your future to helping someone who's basically broken. Kevin, you did," I said, excitedly pointing at my ring, "you chose to help me. I love you, thank you for loving me, and not leaving me, and taking care of me, I love you." I smiled, and took his hand into mine, "And I give you this ring, to symbolize my eternal love and commitment for you." I pushed the pure gold ring over his knuckle, lightly twisting it.
"Alright," the pastor smiled, "now, do you, Kevin, take Abigail, to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do you part?" He looked at Kevin expectantly, and I bit my lip nervously.
"I do." He said smiling at me.
"And do you Abigail, take Kevin, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do you part?" He looked at me this time, and I smiled.
"I do."
"By the power vested in me by the State of New York, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride." With that I felt both of Kevins hands hold my head, and he kissed me deeply.
"I now present to you Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Alvarez." I felt my husband slip his arm around me, and I blushed.
We took pictures with the wedding party for a while, then Kevin led me out to a waiting car. My husband took my hand and pulled me into the limo behind him.
"Hi." He said, as the car started to drive to the Edison Ballroom, which wasn't far, "Mrs. Alvarez." He said, like he was trying it on, "Mrs. Abigail Alvarez." He lightly kissed my cheek, then lifted my up by my waist, he sat me on his lap, facing him, I wrapped my legs around his waist, then kissed him.
"I love you." I whispered, against his lips.
"I love you too. You're my wife. Mine." His fingers gently traced light circles on the top of my back. "You're mine, I love you." He hugged me, and I kissed his neck.

I hide my face in my new husbands chest as we walked into the ballroom. Everyone applauded, and Kevin laughed a bit, as he gently stroked my hair, "Uh, Okay, can I have a mic!" He yelled, and one of the staff handed him a microphone. "Thank you, um, actually, my wife and I would like to thank all of you for attending our reception, we hope you enjoyed the appetizers, so, we'll definitely be bringing out actual food and champagne in a minute, but, right now, we're just really glad you all came."
"DANCE!" My dad yelled and and I laughed.
"Okay." Kevin shrugged, and took my hand, and led me to the dance floor. "So, I hope you don't mind, but, I switched the song. I, I um, I decided I wanted to be the first one to dance 'How 'Bout A Dance' with Broadway's newest Bonnie Parker."
"Kev," I rolled my eyes a bit, "I'm not, no ones called with results yet."
"Yeah they did, they tried you a couple times, but you didn't pick up, they called me this morning. Congrats." He quickly kissed my lips, then handed the mic off to someone standing nearby.
"Kev, uh, seriously, are you serious?" I asked, shocked.
"Mmhm." He nodded. "Now, can we dance sweetheart?"
"Yeah." I smiled at him, and he put his hand on my waist, and started to lead me. I let my head rest on his shoulder, he kissed my head lightly. I realized everyone was watching us, but, I didn't care. I felt his arm wrap around me a little more, and held me close to him.
"I love you Bunny." He whispered.
"I love you too." I smiled, my arm around his back, holding his shoulder. Sooner than I would of liked, the song ended, I moved away from him, and our guests applauded. Kevin kissed my temple, then led me over to the table for dinner.
I knew that dinner was when everyone traditionally gave toasts, I also knew I was going to cry.
"Mijita," I looked up to see my mom, standing with a glass of champagne. "I guess, well, its customary for the mother of the bride to give the first toast, Darling Darling little girl, you grew up so nicely. You changed and you matured and you became so so beautiful. You blessed your dad and I for so long by being our daughter, it was a blessing to live with you, and get to hold you, and love you, and now, now Kevin, that's all you. Kevin, you are an incredible guy, you've shown my daughter unconditional love for over five years, now, show her unconditional love forever, you two are going to do great things. We love you, and Kev, welcome to the family. To my beautiful daughter and her new husband, the Alvarez-Miranda family." She raised her glass and everyone repeated the ending, swallowing a sip of their drinks. I mouthed an I Love You to my mom, then saw my dad stand up.
"My turn." He said, and everyone laughed, "Abigail." He smiled sadly at me. "You are a light in this world. You have been a ray of light in my life, and in your moms life, and in the lives of every person in this room, you are a light in Kevins life." He smiled, and I felt my husband squeeze my hand on the table. "The whole time I was raising you, I was trying to keep you away from boys, because you had been hurt too many times. Fortunately for you Kevin, you started dating when she was an adult."
"You still like, interrogated me." Kevin laughed.
"That's true. Anyways, Abigail, you found a man, the only other man, who loves you like I do. Who wants what's best for you, Kevin, thank you for being such an amazing man, such an amazing boyfriend to my little girl, and well, son, I know you'll be a great husband. Best wishes to the both of you, may the world be kind to you." Everyone applauded my dad, and he came over and gently kissed my forehead.
"Before anyone else come up and talks about how much they love my wife, I'd like to say a few words about her." Kevin stood up next to me, then smiled at me. "You mean the world to me." He opened, "you said that the day I found out you had PTSD you thought I was going to leave you. That couldn't be more false. Okay? Seeing you shake like that, seeing you cry, baby, I'll always be here for you. I'll always be there with a blanket, ready to wrap you up, and hold you, and calm you down, because I love you. I love you so so much. You are everything. I love the way you love me. I love seeing you smile, and hearing you sing, and listening to you snort laugh when it's just the two of us. You are my everything, you deserve everything. I love everything about you. Even the mental disorder sweetheart. I, I just love the women who loves me." With that, he sat back down next to me and I kissed him, for a long time, I only stopped when people started applauding and whistling.
"Thank you." I whispered.
"De nada mi amor." He whispered back.
Several toasts later, I was being pulled back to the dance floor by my father, for the father/daughter dance, he picked the song, I didn't know what he chose. I heard the intro to I Loved Her First start playing, and I buried my head into my dads shoulder. I heard Chris' familiar voice start singing the first verse. I swayed with my dad a bit, his hand on my waist.
"They don't make songs for adopted daughters." He said, and kissed my head.
"No, Dad, it's true." I said, holding back tears, just as Chris started the chorus, "you..." I hiccuped, now crying, "you were the first person to really love me."
"Oh peanut." He smiled at me, and spun me around, "I... I'm glad." We danced up until the last chorus where Lin sang alone, to me. "I loved you first, I held you first, and a place in my heart will always be yours. From the first breath you breathed, you were destined to be, my daughter but not until you were fifteen, and I will never forget that day, but now, it's time, to give you away. I loved you first."
"Thank you Dad."
"Of course my little one." He said, hugging me tightly.
Several dances later, both me and Kev were standing in front of our cake, our hands intertwined, holding a knife.
"Okay, on 3." I giggled, looking at him, "1, 2, 3!" I squealed and we cut the cake together. The rest of the wedding was mainly talking to friends and family, people wishing us luck, until Kev and I had to go. We left the ballroom with shouts of well wishes following us, I was grinning, and giggling, and I felt Kevins arms around me, as he lightly kissed my neck.
I got married.
