Chapter 134 - Intern
"Abi?" Lin knocked on my door while I was getting dressed.
"Yeah?" I replied.
"You decent?" He asked.
"Yep." I said, pulling a black t-shirt on.
"Awesome." He opened the door. "Okay, I have to fill you in on something, I hired, uh, I hired an intern. She's your age, I was wondering if you could show her around today?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'd love to." I smiled, "what is her job? Like, what is she supposed to do?" I asked, grabbing my bag.
"She'll help Kaitlyn run the Ham4Ham, grab laundry at the end of the day, help with mic's, pass out mail, figure out who's stagedooring. Really just this and that." He listed off some theatrical odd-jobs.
"Okay." I pulled my backpack on my back, and stood up.
"Nu uh peanut." I felt the bag slip off my shoulders, and I rolled my eyes.
"Dad, I'm fine, I can carry my own backpack."
"Untrue Niñita. You're like a bird, cute little weak arms." I looked at my arms, he was right. I couldn't lift more than like, 30 pounds without my arms shattering. He grabbed my hands and swung my arms a little. "Yep, cutie bird arms. My cute little bird."
"Shouldn't we get going?" I asked.
"Yep. V took the car, so we're taking the Subway. Although, it's 10:45, won't be too horrifically crowded. Come on." He took my hand and pulled me along behind him, as his left the house.
"Quick question, will I ever get my own Metro Card?" I asked, following him into the subway station.
"When you start needing to take the subway by yourself, that'll happen." He said, pulling me along behind him as he got into the car. He quickly sat down as a couple got up, abandoning their seats. He pulled me into the seat next to him.
We both sat on the subway, not talking, in a comfortable silence, he had his headphones on, and both of us sat on our phones.
"Abi?" He asked, sliding his headphones off, "what are 'indirects' and how do I check them?" He asked, handing me his phone.
"I don't really know." I shrugged, handing him his phone back. He put his headphones back on, and continued looking through his phone.
@AbigailLeighMiranda - @Lin_Manuel and I are trying to figure out what indirects are. (And maybe how to check them?)
I saw several responses, the Hamilton fandom is a dedicated one.
@LinManWELL - @AbigailLeighMiranda @Lin_Manuel oh gosh please don't you don't want to.
@GroffsauceOMalley - @AbigailLeighMiranda @Lin_Manuel search your name in the search bar.
"According to the Twitterers you just look for name up in the search bar."
"Sweet Kiddo." He said, slipping his headphones off again.
"Okay," I said, looking up Lin-Manuel Miranda in the search bar, "well, this one account wants to know if Old Man Miranda can be your rapper name." I said.
"Oddly enough, I'm now considering that." He laughed a little. "Look yourself up." He said.
"Alright." I smiled, and looked up Abi Miranda.
@VanessasSymphony - Abi Miranda is adorable. She's such a cute little cinnamon roll.
@bonniebarrow - ABI MIRANDA BETTER GO TO THE TONYS I NEED TO SEE HER DRESS. AND BE CUTE WITH LIN. AND VANESSA. JUST FAMILY.
"Okay. That was a roller coaster." I said, setting my phone down.
"What were they saying?" He asked.
"Someone called me a cinnamon roll, and one really wants me to go to the Tonys."
"Okay, well, you are. Now, who wants you to go to the Tonys?" He asked.
"Well, they said 'Abi Miranda better go to the Tonys. I need to see her dress. And be cute with Lin. And Vanessa. Just family.'
"Reply, ask them if there's any particular kind of dress they want you to wear." He said.
"Really?" I asked, "am I really going?" I asked. "To the Tonys? Me?"
"Of course you are." He seemed confused, "Mija, you'll be 16, I would of murdered someone to see the Tonys when I was your age, and if my dad was nominated and he didn't take me, he would of been the man I murdered."
"Oh my gosh thank you." I leaned over and hugged him.
"Once again, of course sweetheart." He said, returning the hug, "we're front row center." He added. "Also, I've been meaning to talk to you about last night."
"What about it?" I asked.
"Uh, I'm sorry." He rubbed the back of his neck.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I was angry, I wasn't angry with you," he put his hand on my shoulder, "I was just angry that Nick was still haunting you, I raised my fist. I swear sweetheart I was just pissed off, I was never going to hit you." He rubbed my shoulder a bit, "I shouldn't of raised my fist at you. It was late, I was tired, I just want you to know, Mija, I love you, and I will never hurt you." I was looking at my lap, fingering the pink floral lacy material of my shorts. "Can I have a hug?" He asked, putting his hand on my knee.
"Mmhm." I nodded, tears filling my eyes.
"Love you Mija." He said, wrapping his arms around me.
"I love you too." I said, returning the hug.
"And we're here little bird." He said, taking my hand and leading me off the car.
"Little bird. Is this a really inappropriate Man of La Mancha reference?" I asked.
"Oh gosh Mija, that was quite unintentional. No Niñita, I was referring to your adorable bird arms. And to clarify, as much as you have her voice, you are certainly not Aldonza." He swung his arm around my shoulders.
"Am I Dulcinea?" I asked.
"Same person." He corrected.
"Only sort of, and if I'm not Aldonza, who am I?" I asked.
"Sancho." He replied with no thought. "And I'm Man of La Mancha."
"Of course you are. So, if I'm the Sancho to your Don Quixote, doesn't that make Mom Aldonza?"
"Dulcinea." He corrected.
"Same person." I smiled, quoting him.
"My wife is no whore." He yelled, then realized we were approaching the door. "We should probably stop talking about this." He laughed.
"Yeah. Probably." I smiled. He wrapped his arm around my waist, as we walked in, going somewhat, 'protective dad'
"I'm gonna sign crap." He whispered to me, "hope you don't mind." He said, pulling me over to the barricades, to screaming. I awkwardly stood next to him.
He finished signing stuff, and we walked inside.
"Okay, Lilly, the new intern, she should be in the lobby, I'll introduce you." He took my hand and pulled me to the lobby, as we got there I saw a girl, looked to be about my age. She had blonde hair tied up in a bun, was wearing jean shorts and a deathly hallows sweatshirt.
"Uh, Lin-Father, please say you didn't hire her for her sweatshirt alone." I whispered.
"The reason I hired her is need to know. Also, uh, I mean, shut up Mija." I rolled my eyes. My dad was a nerd. "Lilly!" He yelled, and she turned around, smiling. "Lilly's this is my daughter Abigail. Also, she likes your sweatshirt." I playfully jabbed him in the gut.
"Hi!" I smiled.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you, I mean, I've heard tons about you." She grinned.
"I'm supposed to show you around. Let's start with Lins dressing room." I took her hand, "it's this way."
"Hey!" Lin yelled, "if you're gonna stalk dressing rooms, please start with Daveed and Javis."
"Will do Papa!" I yelled back.
"Does this mean I get Cafécito?"
"Uh yes." I said, and knocked on their dressing room door.
"It's open!" I heard Daveed yell.
"Hi." I smiled, opening the door.
"Hey small one." He said. "Small one brought another small one, hi, my names Daveed." He shook Lilly's hand.
"I know, I mean, uh, hi, my names Lilly." She smiled.
"She's a new intern. Lin hired her." I explained.
"Ah, small one 2.0 is permanent, I need to get you a legitimate nickname." He gave her a hug.
"Is Javi here?" I asked.
"Yes I am peanut." He said, from the door.
"Hi Javi!" I turned around, "I'm showing the new intern around, her names Lilly."
"She's adorable." Javi said, smiling, "you down for cafécito between shows today? I know it's Wednesday, but, newbie initiation."
"Javier Muñoz I am always down for cafécito, what are you talking about?"
"As am I." Lilly said, smiling.
"I have to go introduce Lilly to the girls, I'll see all of you later." Lilly and I walked down to the girls dressing room, she really hit it off with all of them, and I think that she'll really like working here I know I really like her. I think I made a friend.
