Chapter 113 - Missing Person
Abi's POV
"We're back." I heard Ryan yell, throwing open the door, but not caring enough to lift my head to look at him. "You ready to go?" He asked me, and I didn't respond.
"She's not taking it well." Luke said, glaring at me.
"Sorry." He said, and I looked up to see Ryan flop onto the other bed with Laura, my bio mom, and flip on the news.
"Hey kiddo." She looked at me, and I immediately put my head back on my knees, trying to block out the world. "Ok, be that way, we have a flight back to Oregon in 2 hours." She said, and my heart slipped into my stomach.
"In other news, there was an abduction in the theatre district, 15 year old Abigail Miranda was taken from outside of the stage door of the Richard Rodgers Theatre at 11:00 last night. According to eyewitnesses testimony, the suspects are a Laura and Ryan Edminston, who are Miranda's biological parents. Miranda's adoptive father, Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and star of Broadways Hamilton, says that Mr. and Mrs. Edminston have tried to get Abigail back in the past. The suspects are expected to try and bring Miranda to Oregon, and airport security has been notified." I looked up at the TV in time to see a picture of me holding a sleeping Sebastian. I remember when the photo was taken, Lin took it to commemorate the first time I got Seb to go to sleep, I mean, he woke up 20 minutes later, but I was still proud.
"Well isn't this great news." My bio dad rolled his eyes. I huffed a little, and stood up to use the restroom. "Where do you think you're going missy?"
"Bathroom?" I mumbled, "I'm sorry, I didn't think I needed to ask.
"Okay." I heard Ryan say. "Go change, there should be a sweatshirt and shorts in the bag." Ryan waved me off into the bathroom. I immediately got up and ran in the bathroom, grabbing the bag on my way. I passed my bio mom on the way into the bathroom, she just looked like she didn't care what was happening at all.
I changed in the bathroom, then slowly came out in the black sweatshirt and jean shorts.
"So, change of plans, you," Ryan looked at Luke, "are going to get out, and we are going to drive across state lines and fly you out through New Jersey. Flight leaves at 10:00 tonight. Oh, and kiddo, please tell me you don't have a phone on you, and if you do, hand it over." I was surprised he was just now asking for this.
"I think I saw her phone in that bag." Luke said, handing Lin's bag to Ryan. "Front pocket." Ryan unzipped the front pocket and pulled out Lin's phone.
"This your phone?" He asked, and I shook my head. "Then who's is it?" I didn't want to say it was Lin's, if I did, they'd probably smash it. So, I stayed silent, "that's what I thought." Ryan smirked, "I'll pocket this, you'll get a new phone when you earn our trust." I was mentally kicking myself for not giving Lin his backpack back at the stage door, he was going to have to get a new phone, and pray that Ryan didn't get the password.
Lin's POV
"Mr. Miranda, can I have your cell number, so we can update you if we figure something out or have any questions?" Officer Morales-Brooks asked.
"Yeah, sure, wait, no." I said, "my phone was in my backpack, and Abi was wearing it when they took her."
"Wait! That's it! Can you track your phone?" He asked, quickly.
"I'm an idiot, yes! We can track my phone."
We were able to track my phone online, Abi's phone was hooked up too, so, we found that both phones were in a hotel called The Pod 39.
"Alright, we can assume that's where she is, are you going to come with?" He asked, motioning to the cop cars.
"If I can? Of course." I agreed, I wanted to be there.
Vanessa and I sat in the back of Officer Morales-Brooks car, as he led 3 other cop cars, down 2nd to the hotel, we got there in about 10 minutes, and he went inside to figure out what room she was in.
"Room 217, they checked in under their legitimate names, you coming?" He ran out to us, I nodded and looked at Vanessa, who nodded as well. We both got out of the car, and followed the string of cops going upstairs to her room, they flooded in front of room 217, and Officer Morales-Brooks knocked, "NYPD open up!" He yelled, banging on the door, to no response, "we know you're in there, we know you have the girl, open the door!" I was standing behind a mass of cops at the door, terrified. I saw Officer Morales-Brooks pull out the keycard they gave him at the front desk, and he opened the door. As the door swung open, I started to push the cops standing around me put of the way to see in the room.
"Let us go through," I heard Ryan, Abi's bio dad say, "let us fly her out, we won't hurt her, she's our daughter."
"Mr. Edminston please put the gun down." One of the cops said, and I started pushing my way up to the front. "No one needs to get hurt, especially not her." My heart froze at that statement, I managed to get up near the front, and saw the room, Laura, Abi's bio mom, was laying on the bed, not caring, and Ryan, was standing, holding Abi in front of him, with a gun pointed at her neck. I almost lost it, I can't lose it, if I lose it she dies. As I was frantically trying to stay calm, I heard a gun go off, my head snapped up to the situation at hand, and I saw Ryan bent over clutching his leg, and Abi still standing where Ryan used to be, police started to rush in, and I finally saw one of the cops, walk with Abi back out of the room.
"Niñita!" I yelled, hugging her really tightly into me. "Are you okay? What did they do?" I asked, to no response.
"Is she okay?" Vanessa asked, pulling her out of my arms, "how'd you get this bruise?" She asked, he hand on Abi's chin. Sure enough, there was a big bruise on her cheek.
"I wanna go home." Was Abi's response. "Can we go home?" She asked, tears filling her eyes. I wrapped her in a second hug.
"We're gonna go home, and we're gonna stay home, and we're never going to leave you along ever again."
