Chapter 111 - Taken

Lin's POV

"WHERE DID SHE GO!" I yelled frantically into the crowd, "PLEASE, SOMEONE HAD TO OF SEEN SOMETHING!" Once again I was met with silence, "oh gosh." I ran my hand back through my hair, "this is my fault, this is my fault, who the crap took her? Why? Why would they take her?"

"Hey man, what happened?" Leslie asked, coming up to me.

"She's gone. Someone took her." I tried to explain, but my mind was racing.

"Wait, who's gone? Abi? I don't know, she may of just wandered off."

"No, someone took her. I heard her scream."

"Oh crap. Um, try calling her." He suggested and my hand flew to my pocket, my phone wasn't there. I checked all of my pockets before realizing that I didn't have my phone.

"It's in my backpack." I said, upon realization.

"Where's your backpack?" He asked.

"I gave it to Abigail." I said, "I gave her a piggyback ride out for the stage door, so she was wearing my backpack. Crap." I turned back to the crowd of people near the stage door. "DID ANYONE SEE LITERALLY ANYTHING?!" I shouted, to no response. "PLEASE THATS MY DAUGHTER AND I DO NOT INTEND TO LOSE HER." I looked around at the frozen crowd, "please." I said, my voice cracking.

"I think I saw something." I heard a girls voice standing near me.

"Yes! Please, what?" I asked frantically.

"Um, I don't know if this is at all helpful, there was a couple standing near here, late forties, fifties, the guy hugged her?" She said, slightly confused.

"Wait, about 6'2 -ish, brown hair, well built?" I asked.

"Yeah! And the lady, she was about 5'5, blonde."

"Thank you so, so much. Let me give you a hug, please." I said, upon realizing who took her. The girl started nodding hysterically and I hugged her.

"Do you know who they were?" Leslie asked, as I let go of the girl.

"Abi's birth parents, they approached us on the street the other day. They want her back." I ran a hand through my hair nervously. "Can I use your phone?" I asked.

"Yeah, of course." He said, grabbing it from his pocket and handing it to me, I called Vanessa immediately.

"Hello?" She picked up the phone, "Leslie, why are you calling me at 11:00 at night?" She asked, obviously tired.

"V, it's me. Um, I sort of lost my phone, anyways," I started but she cut me off.

"Lin, how did you lose your phone, did you check your dressing room?" She asked.

"No, listen, um, we were at the stage door, and I dropped my beanie, so I ran back to grab it, and when I came back, Abi was gone. She was gone, and someone saw her birth parents at the stage door. Please, what do I do?" I asked frantically, starting to cry.

"Wait, are you trying to say, you can't be serious. Holy crap, holy holy crap, I'm on my way, wait for me." She rambled a little, "I love you, bye." She said.

"I love you too V. Bye." I hung up Leslie's phone and handed it back to him, once I did, he immediately started dialing again. "Who are calling?" I asked.

"Police." He whispered, as they picked up. "Yeah, hi. I need to report a kidnapping." He said, oddly calmly into the phone, "um, like 5 minutes ago." He said. "No, we saw her get taken, like, she was seen getting carried away." he was silent for a little while, "yeah, we know who it was, one sec," he turned to me, "what are her birth parents names?"

"Ryan and Laura Edminston." I replied, fidgeting nervously.

"Ryan and Laura Edminston." He repeated into the phone, "oh, I'm not family, I'm a friend, I'm with her father though." He looked at me, "226 W. 46th St." He gave them the address, "thank you so much." He hung the phone up, and stuffed it in his pocket. "It'll be ok man." He swung his arm over my shoulders.

"I'm going to get her back, then what? What do I do about her?" I asked, "what about school? I can't leave her alone anymore. She's just a kid. I... I don't know what to do. She's just, I can't leave her alone, I can't do anything. I don't want to like stalk her, it's just she's not safe, even from herself." I whispered that last part, as I did, a cab showed up in front of the theater and Vanessa got out and ran over to me.

"You called the cops right?" She said, fear and panic in her eyes.

"Yeah, we called the cops." I said, pulling her into a hug.

"Please let her be okay. Please." She whispered, and I somewhat rocked her back and forth, trying to calm her down.

"She'll be okay, she'll be okay. We'll get her back."

"What if she's already on a plane to Oregon? What if we never see her again? What if we see her on the news for maybe a week or two and they never find her? What if we forget about her? I don't want to move on with life and leave her behind, everyone has left her behind, please promise me we'll love her forever." She rambled on and on about what could happen.

"The police are on their way, they can put out an APB, they can make it so she can't fly out. Give airport security photos of her and Ryan and Laura. It'll be on the news, we will find her, and we will never forget her I promise." I tried to soothe my terrified wife.

"What if she forgets us?"She asked, "I don't want her to see you on the news in 3 years, and remember you. I don't want her to hear about you and think, 'oh yeah, I wonder how he is. I miss him.'" She spilled out her fears, her voice cracking, "what if she doesn't want to come home?" I could hear Vanessa crying over my shoulder.

"She will. She'll come home, I know she will."

"She's never leaving the house ever again." I heard her say. "It's not safe. She's going to stay home, and no one will be able to hurt her." Just as she was saying this we heard sirens headed towards us.

"Who called in a kidnapping?" And officer asked, getting out of his car.

"Me!" I shouted, letting go of Vanessa. "That was me."

"So, you said, it was here?" He clarified. "You're Lin-Manuel Miranda. Wait, your daughter was taken?" He asked, and I nodded quickly, "from here? After the show? No one saw what happened?" He asked, and I shook my head.

"It was really dark, there were a ton of people. Please I have to find her."

"Ok, do you have a picture of her?" The police man asked.

"Not on me." I said, recalling that Abigail had my backpack.

"I do!" I looked to my side to see Vanessa rummaging through her purse, until she grabbed a small picture from her wallet and handed it to the officer.

"Thank you, do you have any idea if she's going to leave the country or the state, because if she does it gets hard."

"Um, yeah, Oregon." I told him.

"We'll get this to airport security, along with the physical descriptions of Mr. and Mrs. Edminston."

"What are we supposed to do?" I asked nervously.

"Right now, go home, go to bed, come to the the police station in the morning, we can start a search. We'll put out an amber alert, she'll be okay, you don't think these people are going to kill her?" He added.

"No. They won't kill her." I said instantly, they're not going to kill her. I don't want to think about that. Please, I can't think about that.

"Alright, get home, get some rest, we'll start a search in the morning." With that he left.
