Chapter 7
Ivy's POV
According to the principal, Josie ran away and has been gone for the past three weeks. How I know this? She's been absent from school, and I've been trying to get in touch with her because Whizzer is the stage manager for the school musical and I thought she would be interested. Panicking, I decided to go to the Walter Kerr theater, which I had been to once or twice for the purpose of hanging out with Josie, only to find out that Josie had run away after my whole coma thing.
So yeah, Josie's gone and I don't know what to do about it or how to help.
Whizzer and Lydia found out a few days after I did, which was around a week after she ran away. And now Whizzer and his family is going on vacation this week, and Josie's closer with him than anyone else.
So Lydia and I are doomed for the most part.
Ignoring Josie for now and wanting to focus on a fun day out with my girlfriend, I took Lydia's hand and waited for one of my moms to jump in the car so we could take a trip out of the city for a day.
"Whizzer isn't the only one escaping the city." Lydia whispered to me as an attempt to make me laugh. I wasn't really that amused. It wasn't that Lydia didn't have a good sense of humor or anything, she had an amazing sense of humor. But it was the fact that Josie ran away and no one had any idea where she was.
The skyscrapers of New York City faded away after around an hour or so and I realized that we're out of the city and into the suburbs. Lydia's eyes were fixated on her phone as she's watching some sort of YouTube video or whatnot, and my eyes were fixated on the window outside.
Suddenly, we passed a cemetery, and when I squinted, I saw that there was a very thin redheaded girl crouched down near one of the graves in the back.
"Wait a second...Lydia...isn't Josie a redhead?" I whispered to my girlfriend. She dropped her phone on the ground and looked outside while I tapped my mom harshly on the shoulder.
"Mom. Mom, pull over." I said. My mom looked at me with a confused stare and pulled the car over.
"Ivy, babe, are you okay?" my mom asked. I cleared my throat and said, "Our friend Josie ran away for some reason right after I got sick and no one has any clue where she is. And there's a girl at that cemetery over there that looks a lot like her, do you mind if we hop out and see if it's her?"
My mom seemed to get the hint and parked the car. Lydia and I ran out of the car and into the cemetery at full speed to see if Josie was there.
And sure enough, crying in front of a grave, was our girl Josephine Harford.
_____________
Josie's POV
I've been to cemetery after cemetery trying to find Katrina's grave. Without any food, just the slightest bit of water, and barely any sleep. In hindsight, I should've went to Katrina's funeral instead of going to the hospital to see Ivy.
Whizzer and Lydia would've kept me updated. Right?
As I'm touring this cemetery that is just outside New York City, I feel someone tap my shoulder. Two people, actually.
"Oh, Josie, there you are!" I heard, and then felt someone scoop me up in their arms. I looked and saw Ivy, with Lydia next to her.
"We have to get her some food. Now." Lydia said. Ivy sprinted full-speed to a nearby car and put me in the backseat in between her and Lydia.
"Lydia. Call Whizzer. Now. Mom, go to the Walter Kerr theater, please. I don't care about Lydia and I's outing, we need to get Josie home and safe." Ivy said, spitting out orders to her mom and girlfriend. Ivy's mom nodded, started the car, and sped away out of the quaint New York suburb and back to the city. Lydia flashed Ivy a thumbs up and quickly dialed a number on her phone.
"Whizzer, what do you mean your burger's almost here? Oh my God. Okay, well, you can keep me on the phone while you're putting on your dang sunscreen! Anyway. We found Josie." Lydia said over the phone.
I heard a scream on the other line and then Lydia chuckled. "Yeah. We're taking her back home as we speak. Okay, I won't interrupt your vacation any more than I have to. I know you want that stupid burger...no, I don't care that it has five types of cheese on it. Have a good day, buy me a souvenir, goodbye."
__________
"WE FOUND JOSIE!" Lydia screamed to the Falsettos cast as she banged through the door holding my hand.
Almost immediately, the entire cast bombarded me with hugs and "where were yous?" Oh, and Andrew offered me a chocolate doughnut. Andrew's nice. I like Andrew.
"I was trying to find Katrina's grave. I looked in every cemetery in the city." I said softly.
"And one cemetery outside the city." Lydia piped in. "That's where we found her."
Andrew scooped me up. "Don't run away like that again, okay?" he asked me. I nodded in approval and then him and Stephanie put Betsy in charge of me for a few minutes while they got ready for the show.
Even if I was getting babysat by Broadway actors 24/7, I'll always miss Katrina.
And no one can take that away.
