Chapter 40
I had just gotten out of the hospital and was recovering at home. I couldn't go to school, I couldn't go to dance, I couldn't really even get out of my bed. So, during that time, I got to thinking.
In about three months, it would be a year since Stephanie found me and took me in. And I thought it would be nice to do something special for her.
But what?
And then I remembered that Stephanie isn't the only person in my life. I have a whole entire family, and that's something I've never gotten. All my life it was just Samantha and I, and she was never even home in the first place. And when she was, she wasn't always the nicest person.
So I decided that I was gonna gather a group of my friends and surprise my family by performing Falsettos in the school auditorium, me as Trina, of course. The only issue was that my friends were not the most talented vocalists in the world, to put it politely. But, I'm gonna cross that bridge when I come to it.
I smiled to myself as I thought out the entire plan in my head. First of all, make up an excuse for why I'm sneaking out of the house after school. My doctor said I couldn't do dance for a while, so I can't use that excuse. Even if I could, Andrew would be the one driving me, so he'd know instantly what was going on.
And then I realized. The day before my one-year-with-Stephanie was also my school's science fair. That was perfect! I decided I'd trick my family into thinking I was participating and I was staying after school to discuss my experiment with my science teacher. Then, I'd invite them that night to come to the fair. They wouldn't know what was truly going on until I dragged them into the auditorium or something along those lines.
I pulled out my phone, starting a group text with Whizzer, Ivy, Lydia, Harper and Angeline. Then realized we needed one more person to make a full cast.
Amethyst Eaton.
I sighed and reluctantly added her to the group text.
Hey guys, Josie here. In about three months, it marks one year since Samantha kicked me out and Stephanie took me in, and I wanted to surprise my family by having us perform Falsettos in the school auditorium. I have an alibi and everything. Pick the roles you want, I call Trina for obvious reasons. Only one catch, you can't tell ANYONE in my family about this. Whizzer, this especially means you. Cool it with the fanboying and keep quiet. If you tell anyone, it'll ruin the whole purpose of what we're doing.
Thanks guys! Meet me at school at 4:30 on Tuesday!
~Jay
I sent the text and was immediately flooded with positive responses. I did happen to notice that Amethyst didn't respond, which was expected. I didn't expect that lying crap to be all hyped about it.
Truth be told, I chose Amethyst for this because I honestly felt bad for her. She deserved a second chance. We ended things with my mama screaming at her, for heaven's sake. She was once a good kid, and she's still nice to some people in my grade. Two wrongs don't make a right, so I wanted to give her a chance.
I put my phone down and deleted the group text in case my mama saw it by any chance. I turned on the TV and flopped back on my pillows, feeling pretty proud of what I did.
I just hope my family would love it too.
AN: Yay fluff! I'm so excited for the upcoming chapters! Hope you enjoyed! Catch ya later!
