Chapter 39
"Stephanie."
I didn't respond. I couldn't respond with all the tears.
"No! Don't talk to me!" I snapped.
"Stephanie! Hey, think of it this way." Andrew said. I looked up at him and he sat next to me and kept speaking. "If Josie was really dead, do you think a nurse would've told us?"
I blinked, thinking about it for a few seconds.
"Andrew, a nurse is heading right for us." I said.
"So?"
"So? This could confirm that Josie's dead!" I said, still crying. A nurse walked up to us and said, "Family of Josephine Block?"
"I'm her mother." I said, standing up and waiting for the inevitable news. The nurse smiled sweetly at me and said, "She's awake and stable, room 209."
"JOSIE!" I screamed, running down the hall.
"Slow down! Josie's not going anywhere!" Brandon yelled.
"Plus, do you even know where you're going?" Andrew asked.
I stopped running for a split second, turned to Andrew, and said, "Andrew, I can read, thank you very much." Then I kept running until I found Josie's room.
I stopped running right before I entered the room to catch my breath, and to make sure I didn't barge into Josie's hospital room like a crazy person and overwhelm her.
Here goes nothing.
_____
Josie's POV
I opened my eyes and blinked a couple of times, getting used to my surroundings. I took a deep breath and looked around for my family.
They weren't there.
I sighed, wondering why Mama would break her promise to me. And then I realized, the nurses probably weren't allowing visitors just yet. I sighed and got comfortable on the pillows, wondering when I would be allowed to have my family in the room.
All I wanted was my family.
I heard footsteps running down the hall and shoes coming to a screeching halt on the floor.
"Do you even know where you're going?" I heard from the hallway.
"Andrew, I can read, thank you very much."
Andrew? Like Uncle Andy? Was my family here?
I heard the doorknob turn and I sat up. Stephanie walked in, completely out of breath. "Note to self, don't run full speed down a hospital hallway like you're trying out for the Olympic track team. I crashed into several small children on the way here." she said. She looked to me and squealed.
"JOSIE!"
"MAMA!" I yelled. Stephanie ran over to me and I launched in her arms. "Mama, I missed you so much!"
"I missed you more, sweet girl." Stephanie said, kissing my head and giving Andrew a pitiful look. I wonder what the look was all about.
"Mama, why did you make a sad face to Uncle Andy?" I asked. Stephanie sighed and before she could say anything, she collapsed into tears.
"Mama, it's okay. I'm sorry." I said, hugging Stephanie. She sniffled a bit and sat me in her lap. "I-it's okay, J-Josie...you did n-nothing wrong..." I hugged my mama as tight as I could, feeling bad that I made her cry.
"I'll take it from here. Josie, um, the reason your mama's so upset is because...before you woke up...your heart stopped beating for a bit." Brandon said.
"What?" I asked, feeling confused. If my heart stopped beating...that meant I was dead.
"Am I dead?" I asked. Brandon chuckled a bit and said, "No, sweetie, you're not dead. The doctors fixed you and made you better, okay?"
"I feel bad for upsetting Mama..." I whispered, forgetting that I was still in Stephanie's lap. I felt her arms wrap tighter around me and then I heard her say, "It's okay, baby girl, it's okay. This is absolutely, 100%, not your fault..."
"Mama?" I asked.
"Yes, baby?"
"When can I get out of here? I want Olive Garden."
AN: So Josie isn't dead. PYSCH! I'm so evil, I know. Hope you enjoyed! Catch ya later!
