"Mama, don't go! I'll miss you!" I whined. Stephanie was going to the spa for the day and Andrew and Brandon were going to watch me while she was gone.

It would be my first time being away from Stephanie since Samantha, and I was really nervous. Stephanie hugged me and said, "I know you're scared, but I'm not gonna leave the hotel, okay? And Andrew and Brandon are gonna come and watch you for a few hours! I'll be back by...2PM at the absolute latest, okay?"

I nodded slowly and then Andrew and Brandon walked in from the connecting hotel room.

"I'll be back this afternoon, and please, whatever you do, don't give Josie too much sugar." Stephanie said. She picked me up and said, "I love you, baby girl. See you in a few hours."

"I love you too, Mama." I said. Stephanie put me down and left.

"So...now that your mom's gone, what kind of candy do you like?" Brandon said.

"Mama said not to give me sugar."

"Is Mama in this room?"

"No, but-"

"Good. Sour Patch Kids or Swedish Fish?" I sighed and then Andrew said, "Do you want to get some board games, go to the pool, go out for a late breakfast, or go to the arcade and play some games?"

"Can we walk around and do stuff and then get some board games? OOH! Can we go to the beach?" I asked.

"Sure, Jo-Jo, we can go to the beach for a few hours." Brandon said.

I smiled and we headed off to the beach.

Brandon's POV

We had just gotten back from the beach and it was honestly a lot of fun. Josie spent most of her time on the sand making sand castles, but her and I also went in the water and splashed around. And by "splashed around" I mean her splashing me and giggling hysterically every time she did it.

Andrew, Josie, and I were on the floor of the hotel room playing Apples to Apples and eating random snacks we bought. I had also bought Josie a cupcake cause she was a good girl and she deserved it and now Josie had frosting all over her lips.

"Uncle Andy, do you want the rest of this?" Josie said, offering Andrew her cupcake.

"Sure, Josie, do you not like it?" Andrew said, taking the cupcake.

"No, I just have to go to the bathroom, I'll be right back." Josie said.

I shrugged as Josie went into the bathroom and Andrew and I were waiting for her to get out.

And then I heard her scream.

"Oh God." I said. Josie ran out of the bathroom, crying and hyperventilating.

"Woah, woah, woah, baby girl, what's wrong?" I said, opening my arms for a hug. Josie threw herself in my arms and started crying harder.

"Josie? Are you okay, sweetheart?" I asked.

"I think I'm dying!" Josie wailed. I hugged her against my chest, kissed her head, and started rubbing her back to calm her down.

"Josie, baby, it's okay. You're not dying. Breathe. Deep breaths. You're okay." I whispered into Josie's ear.

"I think I know what's going on..." Andrew said, pointing to Josie's leg. To my horror, there was blood dripping down it.

Then it hit me.

Josie had gotten her first period. And there was no woman around.

"Josie, I'm gonna call your mom, okay?" I said.

"You're interrupting Mama's spa day? Is it that serious? She's gonna get mad at me if we interrupt!" Josie said. And then I realized that Josie probably didn't know what a period was.

"Josie, she's not going to get mad. She's just gonna explain to you what's going on." I said.

"Brandon, Steph just texted, she's on her way back." Andrew said. I sighed and put down my phone, and then threw a blanket to Josie. "Sit on this."

"WHAT IS GOING ON?!"

Josie's POV

"What...is happening?" Stephanie said, walking in the hotel room. I gasped and ran up to my mom.

"Mama!" I yelled, hugging the life out of her.

"Josie! Did you have fun today? Did Andrew and Brandon take good care of you?"

I nodded and then Brandon pulled Stephanie aside and whispered something in her ear. Stephanie then pulled me aside and took me into the bathroom.

"Josie, so...I think you got your first period." Stephanie said.

"My what?!"

Stephanie giggled and said, "Josie, so, every month a woman gets something called a period. It's totally normal, and it means you're hitting puberty."

"Ew! Gross!" I said dramatically. "I don't wanna hit puberty!"

Stephanie laughed and said, "I know it sucks, but it has to happen. I have to take you to the store to get you some pads and I'll show you how to use them."

"O-okay then." I said.

"Also, don't be concerned if your stomach hurts a bit. It's normal to get cramps when you're on your period." Stephanie said.

"Okay?" I said. Stephanie giggled and said, "Let's go to the store."

I had just learned how to use a pad, and it was easier than I thought it was. And as a special treat, I was sitting at a picnic table eating ice cream with my family.

"This is messy." I complained.

"Here, Jay, have some napkins." Anthony said.

I laughed and said, "Mama?"

"Yes, Josie?"

"Can Brandon babysit again?"
