Chapter 14
"Josephine Harford." someone said from behind me as I was walking to the theater from school. Truth be told, I was barely paying attention, because I had zero sense of direction and was looking up directions on my phone.
I decided to pretend that I wasn't Josie Harford, because I wasn't. I was Josie Block. But it was no use. The person who called my name was obviously smarter than that, they recognized me from the back.
I kept walking until I reached Broadway, thank God. Since I was surrounded by theaters, the Walter Kerr could not be far away. But the person from earlier grabbed my shoulder.
"Who are you?" I asked, starting an audio recording on my phone and slipping it into my pocket.
"You're Katrina's sister, aren't you?" It was a tall brunette man with a full beard. The thought crossed my mind that he was my biological father, but it couldn't be. This man looked nothing like me.
"Yeah, how do you know that, may I ask?" I asked. The man smiled wickedly and said, "I was Katrina's foster father. I'm sure you know that I lost my beautiful only daughter a few weeks ago...and since then I've been in so much grief."
Yeah, imagine how I feel. At least you got to know her.
"Okay, sorry for your loss? What does this have to do with me?" I asked politely.
"Say goodbye to your so-called perfect life." he said. He looked at my school uniform and said, "The perfect school. You're coming with me."
"Are you crazy? I'm adopted!" I said. "No one else has no legal hold over me besides two people!"
And I wasn't lying. Brandon signed on as co-parent when the adoption was officially finalized.
"Oh, adopted, you say? Now, you have a decision to make." The man took me to his car and threw me in the backseat, making me drop my phone on the street. I bent down to pick it up but he pulled me into his car, but not before I called Stephanie and let it ring.
"You're either gonna tell me what your adopted parent's names are, or you're gonna be stuck with me forever and never see them again."
The man drove off and started speeding, he was either under the influence or just a horrible driver. It was then that I realized, he was gonna kill me if I didn't say who Stephanie and Brandon were.
"Well? Josephine, what's your decision?" the man said. I started stuttering and then he slammed on the brake.
"Stephanie J. Block and Brandon Uranowitz!" I screamed right before blacking out.
_______
Stephanie's POV
"It's nearly six. Where's Josie?" Brandon asked. I had my hand on my phone just in case Josie called or texted.
"Her musicals fast approaching." Betsy said. "Could she be at rehearsals?" We all shrugged, and then my phone vibrated.
"Wait, it's Josie." I said. I answered the phone and all I heard was a man on the other end distantly say "You're either gonna tell me what your adopted parent's names are, or you're gonna be stuck with me forever and never see them again."
"Josie got kidnapped." I said, hanging up quickly and running out of the theater. "Guys, whoever was on the other line is either coming for her or us. It's literally a matter of life or death for Josie."
"Okay, do you know where she could be?" Andrew asked. We all pondered for a second before my phone rang again. "Guys, it's the hospital."
"This can't be good." Christian said under his breath. Lily and Anthony walked up to us and Anthony said, "What's up?"
"Your sister's kidnapped, Anthony. Stephanie's trying to figure out what's going on, but for now, Lily, you're in charge of him until we figure this out." Andrew said.
"Hi, are you Josephine Harford's mother?" the person on the other line said.
"That's not her legal last name anymore, but yeah, that's me. Is everything okay?" I asked.
"Your daughter's in the hospital. She was kidnapped by a man named Martin Davidson, who has been promptly arrested."
"Is she okay?" I asked.
"She...she has a brain injury, but she's expected to make a full recovery. However, the doctors recommend she not do any school or extracurricular activities for the next couple of weeks."
"Alright, thank you." I said. "I'll be there with her family." I hung up and then said, "Guys, Josie has a brain injury. I don't know what that means for her memories or skills or anything, but I'm going to come and visit her. It also means she can't do Charlie Brown, so someone's gonna have to break those news to her."
"Let's go." Brandon said softly.
AN: I needed to write some evil. And if you thought I would let Josie get off scot-free, you're wrong. Hope you enjoyed and catch ya later! Love you all!
