!~ two ~!
It's another day in the orphanage. Children bickering with one another, others hoping for adoption and an escape from this hellhole. I am not like either of them. Instead of being upset, or even thinking about leaving, I just read. All that was left in my possession was a book. Luckily, it was a large book. The title was "Obsession with Thee". Pretty much your average Wattpad romance, but during the revolution. Not really that interesting. Better than nothing, though. If I didn't have something to read in here, I'd probably go mad. Maybe that could get me out. Something to think of for sure.
That's when I heard the door creak open. No one really entered the bedroom during the day, since almost everyone much preferred playing downstairs. It's why I liked that area the most. My eyes glanced towards the sound, although my head didn't move. Standing there was one of the caretakers. Her name was Donna. People were okay with her. Unlike some of the other caretakers, she was actually pretty nice to kids. And she was the one that always brought people to their adoption meetings. That only meant one thing.
"Someone is here to meet you!" She told me, looking much more excited as normal. "Are you ready to make a good first impression?"
Hm, that's shocking. How'd they even know I was there? Not like it mattered. Maybe I had a chance of getting out. It'd definitely be nice to have a home. This place wasn't home at all, no matter how hard they tried to convince us otherwise. I lowered my book on the bed, making sure to cover it with a blanket so that no one stole it, and followed her as she hurried down the stairs. We were going to the meeting room. I had never actually been there. People said it was pretty, though. Better than this bland place. All of the walls were chipping.
The other children glared as I passed by. They didn't like me, but they didn't exactly like anyone else, either. So I can't complain. At least they haven't killed me..yet. There's still a chance I'd be stuck here forever. I had to just be hopeful. Maybe if I faked some confidence, that'd make them want me more. Computers would really be helpful at the moment. I mean, "how to impress a potential adopter" is a rather odd search..Google can't really judge me though. It was a browser. Not a gossiping website. If it was, I'd probably never use it. Gossip is really boring. Never understood why people are so fond of the act.
All I could see was a slightly-well-built figure facing the other direction through the door's window. Judging by their hairstyle and overall body-type, I could tell that they were also male. Pretty observant, huh? It's one of my only skills. That, and annoying people. I can really annoy people.
Donna twisted the knob, gently pushing the door open soon afterwards. Her face beamed when seeing who was in there. I didn't really get why. Was he a celebrity or something? That didn't make sense. There weren't any famous guys that I knew. My parents definitely didn't, either. We were all kind of introverted. Now they're definitely introverted, because dead people can't talk. Unless they're zombies. They aren't zombies, though. I made sure of it.
"Mister Borle, we have Marvin here for you." She cheerfully stated, ushering me forward.
He turned around. A large grin appeared on his features, and he gave me a small wave, straightening his slacking posture. From what I could tell, he really did want to be nice. Maybe he heard about me on the news. Don't know why my case would be on the news, but it was pretty wild, so I guess I'm not that surprised. They could have at least told me about it. Still, what was I going to say? Would I ask why he wanted me specifically? No, no, that's a really weird question. Guess I'll just let him start.
As soon as the caretaker left, he started to speak. His voice was..oddly soothing. Even if it was just a normal man's voice. I already felt like I could trust him for some reason. Hopefully, I don't start trusting him though. There's a large chance he chooses some other kid. I was just another part of the bunch. Nothing special at all. Let's hope my personality was enough. "Hi!" Was all he said for a greeting. Time for me to answer. Here we go..
"Hey.."
Oh gosh. That sounded so stupid, didn't it? I sounded like some edgy teenager. No one wanted an edgy teenager. He probably gave up on me already. Sure, it didn't show on the outside, but he surely felt that on the inside. My hands were already starting to fidget with my shirt in anxiety. I don't think I have an anxiety disorder or anything. It didn't make sense as of why I was getting nervous over nothing. All this was was a simple adoption meeting. No need to get my hopes up.
"I'm Christian, Christian Borle."
