Chapter 9
Alexandra's point of view
"Someone is ready to represent." Calum commented as I tossed my school bag on the couch. "Ready for our concert?" He asked me and I nodded.
"So ready." I said and he laughed as I ran a hand through my curly hair. "How about you play my favorite, Wherever You Are?"
"How about you forget about it." He said and I huffed as he laughed. "Jennifer will be here soon, along with Arzaylea and Bryana. You'll be riding with them." He told me and I nodded.
"That's cool, I can't wait to get to talk to her, and Arzaylea. She isn't as bad as Ashton says." I said and he shrugged.
"I wouldn't know, I never hang out with her." He told me and I shrugged.
"I want to breathe you in like you're vapor, I want to be the one you remember!" I heard Luke sang from upstairs and I squealed a bit, covering my mouth immediately.
"I really like that song," I defended myself as Calum laughed. "My favorite." I said and there was a knock on the door.
"I got it!" I yelled and ran towards the door, opening it immediately.
I looked at who it was, and it was a girl. She wore a simple black shirt with the safety pin heart on the heart area and black skinny jeans with piles of black and dark brown bracelets. Her red hair was put into messy twin braids and a black beanie was on her head.
"Hi, are you Jennifer?" I asked and she nodded shyly, her chubby cheeks going a bit pink. They reminded me of Calum's, you just wanted to squish them. "Come in! Are Arzaylea and Bryana here?"
"They're f-fixing their make-up in the car." She said, stuttering a bit. I let her in and she walked in, tugging on her shirt a bit. I left the door open and then followed her.
"I'm Alexandra, the rest of the band are still getting dressed. I don't even know where Calum went." I told her and she nodded as she stood awkwardly, repeatedly pulling her shirt down and fixing her beanie.
"Lexa!" Arzaylea called out and Jennifer sat down on the couch furthest away from us. I looked at Arzaylea and she smiled at me. "You... You look ready for a 5sos concert wow."
"Don't even ask why I have their merch," I told her and she laughed as she fixed her denim jacket. "You look boring. Where's your merch?"
"I don't own any," she said and I huffed. "This is Luke's shirt so, does that count?"
"My life," Bryana piped up and she walked over. "This is Ashton's shirt, so oh well." She said and shrugged as she laughed lightly.
I nodded and then glanced at Jennifer, who was on her phone and smiling at something on it. "Her jeans are way too faded to wear." Arzaylea mumbled and I frowned a bit when Bryana agreed.
"I think her outfit looks nice, come on." I said and Bryana defended herself.
"I didn't say it was bad, it's just, they're a little too faded. She should get some new black jeans." She said quietly and shrugged.
Jennifer shifted softly, as if she knew we were talking about her, and looked up as she heard footsteps. She smiled smally and then stood up, putting her phone on her back pocket.
"Jenny!" Michael said and then gave her a hug. "We match!" Michael said and she laughed as he motioned to their all black outfits.
"Yeah." She said and smiled smally at him. She whispered something to him and he frowned a bit.
"It's okay, it'll be okay, promise." He said softly and then fixed her bands over her eyes. "Just take deep breaths, do you wanna stay backstage? You can do that."
"She has asthma," Bryana told me and I nodded. "This would be the first time she's ever been in the crowd."
"Hey, it'll be okay." I said and looked at her. "I'll be there and we just met but you can trust me." I told her and Michael chuckled.
"You can, promise love. If it's too much I'll have security escort you backstage, I promise." Michael told her and she nodded shyly, glancing between the two of us.
"Let's go!" Luke yelled as he ran downstairs with Ashton following. "I'm so ready to perform some new songs!"
"Wear my shirts more often." Ashton said and Bryana laughed as he put an arm over her shoulder.
-
"Are you okay?" I asked Jennifer as she looked around, her chest rising and falling more quickly than it should.
"I'm fine, just a little... I don't know if I can do this." She said and shook her inhaler a bit before putting it in her mouth, pumping it once, twice. "I'm scared." She said and I almost couldn't hear her.
"What's wrong? It's gonna be okay." I told her, standing closer to her than to Arzaylea and Bryana. I looked at her and she shook her head.
"There's too many people. Why did I think this was a good idea? Why did I think I could do this? Fuck, I'm gonna cry." She said and I looked down a bit.
"Hey, it's okay. I believe in you. You can do this, I promise. The band come on in a bit, so Michael will be there. He believes in you, and if you seriously need to, I can get you backstage aswell." I told her and she nodded, thanking me breathlessly.
"Okay... Okay," she said and the lights dimmed as the band began to come out and start the show. "I can do this... for Michael."
"Are you excited?" Bryana asked me and I told her that I was. She jumped up and down a bit as she heard the drums being played and I chuckled.
Soon the lights went on and we could see the band with all the flashing lights and fog on the floor. I nudged Jennifer and pointed at Michael, who smiled over at us.
"He looks good." She said and I laughed, looking at her. She blushed heavily and I took her bag for her so that she didn't have to carry it.
I cheered as they began to play She's Kinda Hot and Arzaylea and Bryana sang the lyrics to each other, dancing around in their spots. "Michael plays guitar well huh?" I teased as I nudged Jennifer.
"Y-Yeah," she said, a blush still on her cheeks. She pushed her glasses up and then held on to the gate that kept us from the stage. "He's really good."
I chuckled as I sang along to the song, Bryana wrapping an arm around my shoulder and swaying us side to side. Michael walked over to us and nodded at Jennifer, who have him a thumbs up and a smile.
He nodded and gave us a smile. He jumped backwards to his spot as the chorus came up and then he began to sing along.
"They say we're losers and we're alright with that, we are the leaders of the not coming backs, but we're alright though!" I looked at Jennifer and she was singing along.
I nodded my head and Calum walked over as Ashton sang. He pretended to pass out and I laughed as he stuck his tongue out to the crowd, running back to his microphone.
"Bryana! Bryana can we get a video?" A few fans asked her and she turned around. I turned back to the band and Jennifer grabbed my arm a bit.
I reached into the bag and grabbed her inhaler, handing it to her. She shook her head and looked down a bit, seeming to contemplate something.
She looked at me and then shook her head, mouthing to me that she couldn't do this. I looked back at the band and Michael watched us worriedly, but he couldn't come over since it was the final chorus.
When it ended he walked over, sitting on the edge of the stage. Calum yelled about how excited he was and Luke put up a friendly banter with him.
Michael spoke to a security guard and he nodded, looking at us two. Michael gave us a smile and then stood up, going to his spot on the stage. The guard helped us out without Bryana and Arzaylea noticing and I kept my arm around Jennifer's to help her.
We were taken back stage and she immediately broke down into tears once we got in their dressing room. I set her bag down and then rubbed her back. "I'm sorry." She cried and I frowned.
"Don't be sorry, it's okay. I don't mind missing a concert when I can see them practically whenever. As long as you're okay." I told her and she shook her head.
"Then, fuck the concert." I said and chuckled a bit. "Come on, come sit down." I told her and lead her to the couch, letting her sit down.
I sat beside her and rubbed her back as she cried into her hands. She set her glasses down on the couch and cried into her hands. "I failed!"
"What did you fail? You couldn't stay out there?" I asked and she nodded. "It's okay. If you couldn't stay back there then that's fine, don't worry about it. You didn't fail anyone." I told her and she shook her head.
"I-I told M-Mikey I'd do it-I didn't!"
"Mikey won't be mad, if anything, I bet he's glad that you were strong enough to go backstage than to just stand there, uncomfortable as hell and nearly crying because of the huge crowd." I told her and she sniffled.
"I'm so stupid." She mumbled and looked at the floor. "I promised him but I couldn't do it. He's gonna be mad at me. He's gonna-He's gonna hate me. How can I support him when I'm not in the crowd? What kind of at best friend am I? I'm such a failure." She rambled, blocking me out as her breathing quickened.
"Jennifer, you need to ca-"
"Fuck, I'm gonna-I'm gonna-" she said, her face a bit red from crying and lack of oxygen.
I jumped up and then grabbed her bag, immediately searching for her inhaler. I grabbed it and then ran to her, sitting her up straight. I held the inhaler to her mouth and pumped it a few times.
"Calm down. It's okay, I promise. Michael is not going to hate you and you are not a failure. I bet when he gets off the stage, the first thing he's gonna ask is if you're okay, not if you saw how he did on stage. Just calm down. Deep breaths, remember, in and out." I said and pulled the inhaler away, taking deep breaths with her.
She nodded and copied me, her eyes puffy and red. Her cheeks were red and her eyes were full of tears. It kind of sucked that we just met and she already broke down, but I honestly don't mind, as long as she's okay in the end.
"Michael mentioned that you liked Supernatural once so uh, imagine Dean Winchester walking in and telling you that it'll be okay." I said and she gave me a breathless chuckle.
"H-He wouldn't... m-maybe S-Sam though," she said and I laughed. "Sam is better at the whole talking thing."
"Well imagine Sam walking in and telling you that it'll be okay." I said and she looked down as she continued to take deep breaths. I smiled smally and she nodded once she got her breathing under control.
"Thank you... so much," she said and looked at me. I shrugged and then sat down beside her, setting her inhaler on the coffee table. "It means a lot to me."
"We can go back outside if you're ready, if not then we can stay in here a little bit longer." I told her and she was silent for a bit.
"Can we... Can we please stay in here for a little bit? I need to cool off bit." She told me and I nodded, telling her that was perfectly okay.
