Alex's POV:

I squeezed Max's hand as we made it to the ambulance.

"Papa?"

I looked down at them. They were awake.

"Maxie! Are you OK?"

Max sat up groggily and gave me a hug.

"I missed you, Papa."

I smiled softly. "I missed you too, Maxie. It's gonna be OK."

I ruffled his brown hair and they looked up at me.

"What happened? Why are we in an ambulance?"

I rubbed their back. "You were knocked out. I called the ambulance for you."

Max looked up at me, still looking tired. "I remember going to the bathroom. I washed my hands- And then I felt something slam my head, and then I was knocked out."

Max's POV:

I finished telling Alex what happened, and he sighed.

"I'm so sorry, Maxie," he said softly. I gave him a hug.

"It's OK, Papa. I'm OK right now, right?"

Alex sighed again. "I don't know, Maxie. We're gonna check you in and see if you're gonna be OK. It'll be fine."

We got to the hospital, and I felt really scared. It was only a few hours ago that my parents died, I didn't wanna die too.

I squeezed Alex's hand as a nurse called my name.

"Alex, I don't wanna die," I said quietly. Alex looked at me.

"What?"

"I don't wanna die! My parents died here! I don't wanna die too!"

I was crying, and people were staring, but I didn't know how to stop. I didn't wanna leave Alex, or anyone in BeetleJuice. They were my unofficial family.

"Hey, Maxie. It's ok, little guy. Come here."

He gave me a hug and started singing softly in my ear. It took me a moment to realize it was Home. The song Sophia sang earlier.

"You feeling better, Maxie?"

I nodded and wiped my tears. "I'm sorry."

"Don't apologize. You were scared."

Alex looked up at the nurse. "Can I stay with them while they get checked?"

The nurse nodded. "Come on, Max. Here."

He gave me a stuffed zebra! I squeezed it.

"Thank you, sir! I'm gonna name him Chuck."

Alex patted my shoulder. "You ready now?"

I nodded. "Let's go."
