Chapter 40
Today was the day I was leaving for the theater camp George was sending me off to. I was not looking forward to leaving home for the week, but George assured me I was going to have fun and make some friends.
I had just finished packing my suitcase and backpack and George was driving me to the bus stop with all the other kids from New York going to this theater camp, which was a eight hour bus ride away. George pulled his car in a parking spot and got my possessions out of the trunk of the car. He thrust my bag in my arms and ushered me to the bus. There were about 6 other kids there, and a counselor who looked to be in her 20s checking names off and making sure everyone was accounted for.
"What's your name, honey?" the woman asked as George and I approached her. I started to get shy and I hid behind George, who answered for me. "Valerie Salazar-Roland."
"Alright, Valerie, you're gonna love the camp, there's a lot of nice kids who can't wait to meet you." the woman said. She seemed nice.
I turned around and hugged George, who kissed my head. "Have so much fun this week, Valerie. I love you."
"I love you too, Daddy."
__________
Eight tiring hours later, we arrived at a nice-looking building which I assumed was the camp office. The five other New Yorkers and I stumbled off the bus, and we were greeted with a bunch of teenagers in yellow shirts.
"Welcome! Welcome to camp, kids! I hope everyone here has fun this week and makes tons of friends! So, your parents should've gotten your cabin assignments in their emails, raise your hand if that information wasn't passed to you." a woman said. About 5 kids raised their hands and counselors were helping them out.
I saw about 5 pairs of kids reunite with their friends, and I felt lonely. No one wanted to talk to me.
Maybe my bunkmates would be different...
I pulled out the piece of paper George printed out for me, and headed to a cabin right near the lake. I opened the door and there was a girl unpacking her bag.
"Hi..." I said to the girl, who dropped her bag and put on a big smile.
"Hi! I'm Charlea! You must be Valerie! Come on in! Sierra and McKenna should be here shortly. Meanwhile, get yourself settled!" Charlea seemed nice. So far, so good.
A tall blonde-haired girl and a shorter brunette burst through the door. Charlea waved to the girls and kept unpacking.
"Valerie, this is Sienna and McKenna. They've been at this camp longer than I have, they've been here for 5 years and I've been here for 3." Charlea explained.
"Who said you were in charge, Murphy?" the blonde, Sienna, said. "Last time I checked, I was the counselor, not you." Sienna stared at me and said, "I specifically requested no new campers!"
"It's not my decision..." Charlea said. She turned towards me and started talking about her two dads and her life and how she had just gotten adopted. I perked up and started telling about how I had just gotten adopted too.
"Oh my God. The new girl has an accent!" McKenna said. Sienna laughed and said, "Charlea, get away from that British or whatever freak."
"Italian..." I said, which was a mistake.
"Charlea, get away from the new girl or we're not gonna talk to you again and we're gonna get you kicked out of camp somehow." Sienna said.
"Fine by me." Charlea scoffed. "Come on, let me take you to meet some new kids. Most people here are nice, unlike some people." Charlea glared at our cabinmates and dragged me out of the cabin.
Here we go again with being teased for my accent...
Time to go back to the fake American accent I hated so much.
AN: Charlea is MichaelMellsBathroom 's OC! And summer camp is only gonna get more evil! Hope you enjoyed! Catch ya later!
