"Someone's in love." Will said as I was getting ready for school. I rolled my eyes and said, "Just because I find Reed Adler slightly attractive doesn't mean I have a crush on her. She's just...really cute."

That was a total lie. I did have a crush on her. And today was the first day of school since I met her. Reed was a new student, she had only been at Eisenhower for a day before I met her. So I was the only person at school she had actually formed a relationship with.

"Just in case, you need makeup. And your hair done." Will said, clapping his hands. George ran out and said, "No makeup! She's ten years old, for heavens sake!"

I rolled my eyes and waved at my dads as the bus came.

"Valerie! Question, are you gay?" Corey said, bouncing over to me. I laughed and said, "I'm pan. Why?"

"That new girl, the one in the wheelchair with the dyed hair, she seems to be really into you. I could see her heart eyes in history class." Corey said. "I think she could tell you were a history nerd."

At that moment, Reed Adler rolled down the hallway and waved.

"I heard 'new girl in wheelchair.' What's up?" Reed asked. She saw me and smiled awkwardly, fidgeting with her phone in her lap.

"Do you have a crush?" Corey asked. Reed laughed, but then her face turned dead serious. "What makes you think I have a crush? And on who?" Reed inquired.

"Well, I see you giving Valerie Salazar over here heart-eyes all the time in history, so..." Corey said.

"Actually, it's Valerie Salazar-Roland." I said matter-of-factly. Oh crap, I said to myself. Did I just sound like a total jerk in front of the cutest girl in school? Yep...Valerie, ya did. 

"Hey, um, Valerie. Class is starting soon. You're auditioning for the school musical, right?" Reed asked. I shook my head and said, "I'm going to try out for the basketball team. I got clearance from my doctor, don't worry. I'm just...not the performing type."

"Oh. Okay. Well, I could maybe sneak into tryouts if auditions don't take too long." Reed said. I could only awkwardly smile and nod my head in return. 

I smiled, wondering if what Corey said was right.

I walked into the gym, not being met with a group of kids dribbling basketballs, but with Reed in the middle of the gym. 

As soon as I entered, slow music started to play, and I started to get confused. 

 Reed started singing a song that I recognized as Dance with You from The Prom. I knew it because I had listened to the soundtrack when I met her. 

I started bawling. Reed was singing to me.

"Valerie Adalasia Salazar-Roland. You are the prettiest girl I have ever gotten the chance to lay my eyes upon. You're so sweet and amazing and whenever I hear your accent, it makes me blush like crazy, I know it sounds so weird but it's true and I love it so much! The feeling of knowing that you know I exist...just makes me the happiest girl in the world. So Valerie...I know you're going to say no...but will you be my girlfriend?" Reed asked, taking my hands. 

I started sobbing happy tears and said, "Are you kidding me? Yes! Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times, yes!" My accent was getting stronger with every word, it happens when I'm excited. I leaned down and hugged Reed as tight as I could. 

Rebekah Lynn Adler was my girlfriend. 

"Let's make it clear that tonight belongs to us." Reed said. I looked at her and she said, "You had no idea what I was singing, do you?" 

"No. I don't. But it came from you, and that's all that matters." I said.

"It's from The Prom, silly goose!" Reed said. "It's about a lesbian couple. You're Alyssa, I'm Emma." I laughed, not understanding a word of anything Reed just said. 

Reed's voice makes me giddy. Everything about Reed makes me want to blush and scream with pure glee. 

But the issue is, how do I tell my family that I had a girlfriend? 

"So, Reed...about basketball tryouts...are they happening or was this just a hoax?" I asked, giggling.

"Tomorrow, they are. I may have lied to you so I could ask you to be my girlfriend. And by the way, my dads know." Reed said. "They approve."

"That's a relief. My dads...they're cool with my sexuality and whatnot, but they don't exactly like me...dating anyone. They say I'm too young." I said.

"But it's too late now. Because you're mine." Reed said. I never wanted to let go of her hand. Not even if someone tried to pry us apart.

Reed Adler was mine.
