Chapter 22
Jordan's point of view
When I got to school, it seemed as if everyone was steering clear from me. Everyone left me alone and when I talked to them, it was as if it was a sin to reply. I guess its okay, I mean, I'd rather be ignored than having to deal with people's ignorant and idiotic voiced thoughts.
As we were walking towards our class, I saw a sign that in big, bold letters read '8th Grade End Of The Year Talent Show'. I looked at it and grabbed a flyer on the desk under it, reading through it.
"Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you about this. If you want to join, you have to sign-up by today. After today, it's closed." Taylor told me and I nodded as I read through the paper.
"We were thinking on doing this whole group thing but had forgot to tell you yesterday." James told me and I looked at him. "Mr. Kings told us if we preform on the talent show as our celebrity it would give us extra credit." He said.
"If we did enter, what would I do? 5 Seconds of Summer is a band of four, not five." I told them and Timothy chuckled. "What's so funny?" I asked him.
"You have a nice set of pipes on you, you can do the main singing." He told me and I looked down at the flyer. "It's worth an extra seventy-five points." He said.
"We all have to enter, if not, we don't get the extra credit." Christian chimed in ans I pulled the pen from behind my ear. "You want to do it?" He asked and I nodded.
"It'll be fun," I said as I began signing our names down on it. "Besides, if we don't win, we get extra credit just for trying. It's a win-win situation." I told them and they nodded.
"This means we have a week to practice a song from them and to finish our actual project." Taylor said and I nodded as I folded the paper up and put it in the ballad box. "Can we handle all of this?"
"The project is half way done, all we need is the answers to some questions and to put the board together. We can do that at my place later on." I said and Timothy nodded.
"I can do that." Christain said and I nodded. "Hey, um, do the boys have a music room? I would assume so seeing as they're a really famous band but I don't know." He asked and I nodded.
"Yeah," I said and chuckled. "You don't need to bring your own instruments. I'm sure as long as were careful we can use their equiptment." I told them and he nodded.
"My bass strings kind of broke and so that's why I asked." He said and I nodded. "Come on, we need to get to class before we get in trouble." He told me and I nodded.
"Such a good boy Chris," Taylor teased and the boy blushed. "Always willing to do as he says. It's so cute." He told him and Christian pushed him away.
"Stop, it's just, I don't want to get in trouble." He said and began walking away. "I can't risk getting in trouble, not when a new bass guitar is in store for me." He said and I laughed as I caught up to him.
"I've gotten in trouble too much already, I can't do it anymore." I told them and they all groaned at how good we were being. "After the talent show I'll let loose, but until then, I'm stuck trying to be a good."
"Good girls are boring." Taylor groaned and Timothy agreed. "Good boys are boring too."
"Good thing we're just pretending so we can get what we want huh?" I said and then went to the classroom door. I opened it and then stepped inside with them. "You all know I'm normally not like this."
"Yeah," James said and chuckled. "You're not."
-
"I am so glad we finally finished that damned poster." Timothy said and I looked at the board on my bed. "That took so long." He said and I laughed.
"It took about an hour Timothy," I told him. "Besides, we did have a snack break and dance battle." I reminded him and he nodded.
"Which me and my beautiful hips won," Taylor said and stood up as he shook his hips side to side. "I always win at dancing battles." He said and cocked his hip to the side.
"When your fifty years old and can no longer move like that, I will laugh my ass off." Christian said. "Those hips will not last." He told him and Taylor pouted.
"I have the information!" James said as he stepped into the room. "I have the answers to all the questions and can make copies for all of us so we all know the asnwer." He told us and I nodded.
"Now what do we do?" Taylor asked and I grabbed my phone. "What song are we going to do for the talent show?" He asked in general as I went on YouTube.
"This song," I said and played them a song that I absolutely adored. The loud guitar riffs played through the air and they looked at each other.
They listened to it quietly, taking in the instrumental parts and the lyrics. I could hear Calum yelling at us on how we were dorks for listening to their music while they were home.
When the song finished, they looked at each other. "How are we supposed to learn how to play that in like a week?" Taylor asked me and I laughed.
"Luke! Ashton! Calum! Michael!" I yelled as I played the song quietly on my phone. I heard groans from rooms beside us and then they walked in.
"They'll be too busy to help us Jordan. They're famous for crying out loud! Famous people have interviews and shit to do." Christian said and I laughed.
"All they do is sit around on their phones, or swapping spit with their girlfriends, they have time." I said and someone pushed me. "Hey," I whined and then sat up.
"What do you need from us?" Michael asked and then grabbed my phone from off of my bed. "And why are you listening to us?" He asked and then he set my phone down again.
"We have this talent show coming up and the teacher said if we played one of your songs at it, he'll give us seventy-five extra credit points." I told them and they looked at eachother.
"This song is so badass." Taylor said as he grabbed my phone. "While everyone is doing some terrible dance routines, magic tricks, or turning themselves into a pretzel, we can be playing this."
"You really want to be us so bad, don't you kids?" Calum joked and then looked at Christian. "I assume you play bass, you seem like one who does out of you lot." He said and Christian nodded.
"Yeah, I play. I haven't for a few weeks though, my strings broke." He said. "I'm getting a new one during summer vacation though, but it's not soon enough." Chris added and Calum nodded.
"Well, I have like seven bass guitars are you are welcome to practice on them whenever you want as long as you don't break them." Calum said and Christian nodded as he thanked him. "No problem." Calum told him with a smile.
"We're doing this song then?" Timothy asked and I nodded as I grabbed my phone. "Google the guitar chords, especially for those guitar solos, me and James have a lot to practice." He said and Luke laughed.
"Drop the phone. We have the music sheets with the guitar chords stashed away somewhere. Besides, we know these by heart, you can learn from us while you're here." Luke said and Michael looked at me.
"What will you be doing if they're playing the instruments?" He asked and I pointed to my throat. "You never told us you could sing." He said.
"You never asked about it." I said and he nodded. "So, can we practice today? The talent show is on Sunday." I said and they looked at each other.
"So soon?" Ashton asked and we nodded. "Yeah, we can do that." He said and then bit his lip. "You guys are going to need to practice more at home then." He said.
"I can do that, I have my own guitars and stuff." Timothy said and James noddee. "Taylor has a drum kit at his house so it's all good." He told us.
"I guess you're stuck with me Chrissy." I said and he laughed. "You'll just have to play here, maybe stay the night on Friday and Saturday." I told him and he nodded.
"I can ask, but most likely I can." He told me and I nodded. "Is it even possible to learn a whole song in a week? Like on the instruments and stuff?" He asked as we followed the four older boys to their music room.
"It's unlikely, but we have to try. We signed up and now we can't just back out of it." Taylor said and looked at us. "We need to at least try."
"We can do it, I know we can." James said and smiled. "Don't worry about it, we'll just do a shit ton of practicing. Practice makes perfect after all." He told us.
"Here we are," Michael said and we were now inside of a large room. It was full of instruments and had a few couches and chairs. There was a large recording studio and many amps filled the room aswell.
"This is beautiful." Taylor said as he went to the drum kit. "It's so shiny and looks as if it costed thousands, maybe somewhere around half a hundred or more." He said as he ran his hand over it.
"It did." Ashton said and grabbed a pair of drum sticks. "It was expensive as hell, and I trust that you won't smash it?" Ashton said and Taylor nodded.
"I can't promise the sticks though." Taylor said as he took them from Ashton. "I broke a number of them since I was ten." He said as he twirled them in his hand.
"Doesn't matter, I have the money to buy more of them. They're not that expensive." Ashton said and I took a seat on the couch as I watched them all get set up.
"Luke can teach to two boys the guitar riffs today." Someone said and I looked up. "I need to teach you how to hit these notes and make your voice fit the song perfectly. After all, some people either got it or they don't."
"Okay," I said and stood up. He led me into the recording booth and it was completely silent. "God, I wish I knew of this place sooner. I'd do my homework in here, hell, I'd even sleep in here." I told him and he laughed.
"We're just in here so I can hear your clearly." He told me as he grabbed my phone from my hand. "Do you have an outfit planned out for the show? Do we need to buy you one?"
"So just because I'm a girl I'm supposed to have an outfit planned out?" I joked and he nodded, playing along. "No, I don't have one. I'm still looking." I said and laughed.
"I can go out and buy you one on Friday." He told me. "No, you're not skipping school. I'm free to go to the mall and look for a good outfit that will fit this song but still be school appropriate." He said and I nodded.
"Do you think that we'll be able to play decently at the talent show? I mean, it's in a week." I said. "I just found out about it even though it was up since like last Monday."
"You walked those halls everyday and never noticed it?" I nodded and he just rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I think you guys can do this. You're all smart and have great memories. You have this." He said and ruffled my hair.
"Can I dress like you for the talent show? You're style of clothing is better than the others. It's more... edgy and dare I say it, badass." I said and he laughed.
"Of course you can." He said and smiled. "Now, are you doing this because you want to or because of the extra credit?" He asked me and he looked down at me. It's not my fault I'm so short and he's so tall.
"I quite like the idea of being in a band, even if it is for a day." I said and laughed. "Besides, it seems fun and it wouldn't hurt to get a little extra credit along the way, you know what I mean?" I said and he nodded.
"I understand it perfectly." He said and then showed me an instrumental of the song. "Sing along and then at the end, I'll show you what you need to practice on or start doing."
I nodded and grabbed my phone as I started the video. I cleared my throat and looked at it as it began playing. "Back at school, they all thought I was an outcast car crash..."
