Chapter 16
Jordan's point of view
I walked around my classroom, grabbing markers, pieces of colored paper, scissors, and glue. I went back to my table and then set them down as I grabbed my pencil. "I'm gonna trace out their band logos and you guys need to search up some of the basic information so we can out it on the poster." I told them and they nodded.
"I'm going to go ask Mr. King if we can use the laptops then." James said and we nodded. I began tracing out the logo we had on the printed photo of the band and the others watched. They claimed they couldn't draw and so I was the one doing all of the art.
"If you guys need to again, we can do more of this project at my house. Michael and his girlfriend will be there and they can help us." I told them and they nodded.
"My parents are okay with me going over whenever for the project, as long as I'm home before dinner." Taylor said and the rest agreed with him, saying their parents told them the same thing.
"We can make Michael go to the store and buy us the things we need and get some information out of Chelsea while he's gone." I said and they laughed.
"This project is so fun." Christian commented and I agreed. "I can't believe we get to do this. I would have thought we'd have a paper to do or something."
"I know. We always have to do papers in this class. It's boring." Timothy said and the others agreed. I groaned as I messed up on the tally marks and then redid it. I finally got them right after the tenth time, literally, and then smiled.
"Guys," James said, holding one of the school's laptops they allow us to use. "Get a notebook, we need to write down this." He told the three and they nodded, grabbing my journal and my pen from behind my ear.
"Of course, just take my things why don't you?" I asked and they laughed, shrugging my sarcasm off. I shook my head and then outlined the logo with a black marker so I knew where to let them cut.
"Do any of you cut right? I'm really bad at cutting straight." I told them and this guy turned around. He was one of the more popular kids and hung out with the guy who was bullying James the other day.
"James is really good at cutting, you should see his wrists. They're really straight." He said and I glared at the boy. Our groups quieted down and I threw the marker down.
I pulled my fist back and then punched him right in the mouth. He held his mouth in pain and the teacher yelled at me. "How dare you say something like that outloud?" I asked him as he covered his mouth. "I hope you aren't able to speak for a whole month." I spat.
"Miss Irwin! Go to the principal's office at once." The teacher yelled and I stood up. I pushed my glasses up and turned around sharply, my hair smacking the boy in the face.
"Fine." I said and stood up. I grabbed my backpack and made my way out of the door, giving an apologetic look to the four boys I was working with.
It wasn't long after the door closed that someone ran after me. I looked and saw that it was Christian. I gave him a small smile and he did the same. "Get to class, you'll get in trouble." I told him.
"What you did was perfectly right. Don't think what you did was bad." He told me and I nodded. "Besides, I was told to escort you to the office." He said and I rolled my eyes.
"Great. Not only did I get in trouble so quickly but I'm treated like a four year old." I said and he laughed. "Is James okay?" I askes him and he shook his head.
"When you left, he broke down and Timothy had to comfort him while Taylor defended your actions." He told me and I nodded as I ran a hand through my hair.
I stepped into the office and I saw the principal at the desk right away. "Christian, you may leave now. I need to talk to Jordan alone." She said and he nodded. He gave me a wave and I smiled back smally as he walked away.
"Follow me," she said and I did as she said. She led me to a small room and then closed the door. "Your teacher told me you punched another student, care to elaborate?" She asked me.
"That's exactly what I did, I punched another student in the mouth. I probably busted his lip." I told her and she gave me a disappointed look. "He deserved it."
"Why did he deserve it?" She asked me with crossed arms. "Violence is not permitted in this school, you were told the day you enrolled, which wasn't too long ago."
"He made fun of one of my friends, and in my rulebook, that is not permitted." I said. "No one makes fun of my friends, expecially in such a way. What he said was crossing the line and not only humiliating, but extremely hurtful."
"And what did he say about your friend that caused you to punch him?" She asked and I stayed quiet. "Jordan, tell me." She said and I stayed quiet. "You are already in deep trouble Ms. Irwin, one of your guardians is on their way to pick you up. You are suspended for two days."
"So basically, I get a four day weekend? Sweet." I said and she just went on about how this will go on my permanent record and how violence is not the answer.
Soon, Michael was at the door and I stood up. I said bye and he looked at me angrily. "What the fuck Jordan? You punched someone?" He asked after we walked out of the door.
"I had an extremely valid reason, don't get all angry at me just yet." I told him and fixed my backpack strap. "However, I don't know if it would be fair to James if I told you."
"It wouldn't be fair to you, the boys, or your school if you didn't tell us your reason." He told me. "Would you risk your belongings for it?"
"Damn right I'll risk it. He's already humiliated enough. Poor boy doesn't deserve all of the rude remarks he gets. He's so sweet and so innocent. People need to take a chill pill and leave him the hell alone." I said but then began mumbling at the end.
"Get in the car. I'm sure Ashton will love hearing your story on how you got suspended after three days of school." He said and I rolled my eyes as he lead me to the car.
-
When Ashton and the boys came home, Ashton was not excited to see me at all. He was angry, and it wasn't the first time it was my fault. The boys, along with Chelsea, were sitting on the couch, and Ashton was standing up, pacing around.
"What the actual fuck Jordan? I was out song-writing for our new album and I get a fucking call that you punched someone in claes for no reason-"
"I do to have a reason. He deserved it. He deserved that busted lip I gave him." I said and stood up. "I hope he's not able to talk for weeks with that fat lip." I told him and crossed my arms.
"What in the world can someone say to you that makes them deserve a punch to the lip?" He asked me angrily. "There is nothing. If he was bullying you, you should have told someone, not punch them."
"Oh, I wasn't the victim here, nor am I the enemy. He thought it would be right to make fun of James in such a humiliating way and I wasn't going to stand for it." I said.
"Then you should have told someone! And what is this nonsense I'm hearing about you not being able to tell us, in detail, what your reason is?" He asked me as he crossed his arms.
"Tell someone? The whole class heard it with his loud voice. I'm disgusted that he is playing victim for what he said and that the school is backing him up." I told them. "And I can't tell you what he said. It's not fair to James."
"Young lady, I am your father. Tell me what he said that caused you to think it's okay to punch someone, because it's not okay." He said, running a hand through his hair.
"I can't okay? He told me that he likes you guys and if I told you, he won't ever want to come around again." I said and pulled at my hair. "Stop pressing it."
"It's your third day at that school and you're suspended. I will not stop pressing it. I deserve to know what he said. Also, I deserve to know why you felt the need to stand up for him when he is clearly capable of doing it himself." Ashton told me.
"You can't stand up for yourself when you're in shock and are about to cry! Besides, what kind of friend would I be if I allowed some dude to talk trash about him? I'd be a terrible friend to just let him go." I said. "Besides, I'd put all of my friend before myself any day. They actually have futures ahead of them."
"Jordan, it couldn't have been that bad to say." Calum told me softly. "Just tell us and we won't punish you that bad. As for now, there's no skateboarding, no phone, no laptop, and no having your friends over for three weeks."
"Really, just tell us-"
"Fine!" I yelled and looked at them. "You want to know what he said? I asked if any of the guys could cut straight because we were working on our project and I can't cut straight. This dude turns around, looks me in the eyes, and tells me to give it to James because he cuts straight, just look at his wrists. He said it so loudly and now, the whole class knows." I yelled and they all sat, well Ashton stood, there shocked.
"Not that bad is it? Announcing to the class that someone has cuts along their wrists? I'm still the bad guy, aren't I? I'm the one who gets in trouble for standing up for my friend. I get in trouble for doing what's right. After all, you can't just tell a teacher or an adult. They wouldn't understand because times are different. Adults don't understand half of the things that go on anymore, especially when it comes to things like this." I told them.
"I dare you to tell the school that punching him was wrong. I dare you to tell me that giving him a fat lip was wrong. All I was doing was standing up for my friend. What I did was not out of line and it was not ubsurd." I said.
I stood here for a few seconds, and when no one spoke up I scoffed. "Talk to me when you get your priorities set because I am not the bad guy here." I said and ran up to my room.
I slammed my door shut and the threw my glasses on to my bed so they don't break. I groaned and ran a hand through my hair. They won't understand, what was I thinking? They don't even understand how Algebra works, how are they supposed to understand what I just told them?
I pulled my phone out and then texted the guys in the group chat we had. 'Hey guys, I'm grounded for three weeks, so no coming to my house for the project and I can't text you guys.' I sent it and then went to my messages with James.
'Don't feel guilty for me getting in trouble. I know you and you'll try to pin this on yourself. Just know I'm here to talk to when things get really rough again. He deserved that punch because no one is allowed to talked about you like that. I hope everything is okay and if it's not, you'll make it through. xx'
I thought maybe the text was too much, but when there was a knock on the door. I sent it and then turned my phone off. I set it besides my laptop and then opened the door.
"Take them." I said and pushed it towards Luke. "You can have them, but my skateboard stays with me. No one can touch it." I said and then pushed him out of my room.
I shut the door and then locked it. I jumped on my bed, careful of my glasses, and then put them on the nightstand. I needed to sleep, if not, I'll break everything in my room and then some.
