Chapter 12
Jordan's point of view
"What is your problem?" I asked as I was shoved into the house. I huffed and walked in, grimacing at the smell of weed and alcohol. "Jesus, I almost fell." I told him.
"Where the fuck were you yesterday? We were worried sick!" Ashton yelled and I laughed as I tossed my bag on the floor. "Fucking answer me Jordan." He told me and grabbed my shoulder, whipping me around.
"I'm sorry I walked to a friend's house because I was left alone at school!" I yelled. "I was waiting at school for half an hour for one of you to pick me up! I called and I texted you guys but I never got a reply!"
"We're busy people Jordan, you can't just expect our schedules to stay the same! You could have easily walked home rather than not appear at all." He told me.
"That school is twenty minutes away, by car." I told him. "Double that for walking time. I am not walking alone that whole distance, are you in your right mind? Something could happen to me if I walked home alone! My friends said those streets are dangerous!"
"Your friends are wrong! They are perfectly fine." Ashton told me and I grit my teeth. "Besides, you could have asked your friends for a ride."
"You know what? Rather than trying to get information on where I was, you are defending yourself. You are trying to make this seem as if it is all my fault for you guys not picking me up." I said and shook my head. "I'm done."
"You come right back here missy." He told me and grabbed my wrist. I flinched at his tight grab and he spun me around. "You do not speak to me like that." He told me.
"You're being unreasonable. You're telling me it's my fault that I didn't come home because no one picked me up. Your telling me it's okay to walk home, which would take me forty minutes, in dangerous streets." I told him.
"I don't know the people you stayed with. They could be crazy for all I know." He told me. "Their parents could have been psychotic." He said.
"They're not crazy! Timothy is sweet and Christian is literally like Luke himself. They're fine, and Timothy's parents were sweethearts." I said, lying about his parents. They weren't there, but I wasn't going to tell him that.
"You should have asked-"
"Maybe I should have, you're right. However, when you have people yelling profanity towards you and slurring out angry words, you don't think very much. You think of what you want rather than what is best." I told him.
"We did not yell profanity at you and we did not get drunk." He defended himself and I rose an eyebrow at him. "We were busy."
"I know when people are drunk Ashton. I've seen it before and I've heard it before. You four were drunk and were screaming at me for something that was barely my fault." I told him. "You weren't working, you were drinking. Hell, this house reeks reeks of weed and alcohol, and you're trying to tell me you were working? I'm not an idiot Ashton."
"Urg, what happened last night? Why are you two yelling?" Someone grumbled. "Hangovers are a bitch." Michael said and I grit my teeth.
"You blew me off to drink. Yeah, great parenting." I said and turned to walk away. I saw the other two boys come down and as I walked up the stairs, I bumped into Luke.
"Hey, where were you yesterday? You never came home." He told me and I shrugged him off. "Answer me." He told me, grabbing my wrist.
"I was at a friend's house because a certain blonde didn't come and pick me up from school." I said and walked away. "If every school day is going to be like that, you guys blowing me off to drink, I minus well just take the bus or something." I said.
"Why did I even adopt you?" I heard Ashton yell. "Jesus, you're so needy and complain so much." He said and I stopped.
"I don't know why you did." I said. "And I'm needy? Might I remind you, everything you bought me, was all you. I barely asked for a few things. You're the one who bought me everything I set eyes on." I said and then turned around.
"And I complain too much? I just got upset because you didn't pick me up and then blamed me for not coming home while you four were drunk and high. You're the one who complains. Oh, girls can't do this. Oh, you can't dress like that. Oh stop doing this, stop doing that." I said.
"I should have picked a kid who actually is grateful for what they're given, unlike you." He spat and I was about ready to scream. "Management should have gave us a different adoption center to go to."
"Management?" I asked and all the other guys looked at Ashton pleadingly. They begged him not to tell and that it was wrong, but he didn't care. "What do you mean?"
"I mean I never wanted a fucking kid. I'm twenty years old and am a fucking rockstar. Do you honestly think I'd want a kid now?" Ashton said and tugged on his hair. "It was just a stunt Jordan. They wanted me to be more responsible and to bring good press back to the band."
"What do you mean?" I asked him, tears filling my eyes as my phone vibrated in my back pocket. "What are you saying?"
"It was a publicity stunt god dammit! That's what I'm saying. I only adopted you so our band gets better press and so people can see us as responsible young adults." He seethed and I stood here dumb-founded.
"I was nothing but a publicity stunt? Something to keep your band from hitting rock bottom? W-What?" I asked, the news hitting me like a train.
"We're sorry-" Calum tried to say but I shook my head as I backed away from them all.
"You're not. You don't care. If you did, you wouldn't have taken me out of there. I'd rather be parentless, and living in an adoption center with people who bully me, than to be living in the home being fed with lies and showered with false affection." I said.
"You don't mean that. Stop talking nonsense and go to your room." Luke told me and I nodded giving a humorless laugh.
"Oh, but I do." I told him. "I thought maybe this was the time I could be happy with the people who adopted me. Oh how wrong I was. I mean nothing to the people who adopted me. What's new?" I asked as a tear fell from my eye.
"Jordan, you have to understand-"
"No, I understand perfectly Michael. You used me." I said. "I thought you guys were different too." I said and then ran to my room. I locked the door and then fell down as I cried into the bedspread.
I was nothing but a publicity stunt to them. They used me so their band doesn't get eaten up with bad rumors and so they can seem responsible.
I was starting to get used to living here too. I was happy and I thought maybe this would be permanent, but I guess not. They don't want me. In no time I'll be back at the adoption center.
"JJ, please open the door." I heard Michael say as he knocked on it. "We love you, you know that. We weren't showering you with false affection, I promise."
They're liars. They just don't want me to report that the band is terrible and that they are irresponsible. As if I'd tell. That would involve me actually talking to reporters and the paparazzi, and they scare me.
"Go away," I said, my voice shakey and croaky. I didn't want to see or hear any of them. I didn't want their comfort, not when they caused this.
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I pullednit out since it was probably one of the guys. Taylor had texted me he was bored and then I just told him to do something.
'My parents are sleeping, you can't do shit when that happens.' He texted back and I chuckled as I wiped my eyes. 'Facetime?' He asked and I bit my lip. Maybe this idiot can cheer me up.
'Yeah, okay.' I texted him back and then went to my bathroom. I washed my face and then threw my bangs over my eye so it could hide my red eyes.
My phone rang and I picked it up, accepting the request. Soon, Taylor's weird face filled the screen and I laughed. "You're a dork Taylor," I told him and he agreed, smiking into thr camera rather than pulling whatever face that was.
"Are you doing the homework?" He asked me and I shrugged. "I'm not and I just wanted to see if I was the only one not doing it. Timmy and Chris always do their homework, so I couldn't ask them."
"Probably not, my backpack is too far away." I joked, but my voice betrayed me. It was still croaky. I covered it with a fake cough and he looked at me worried.
"Are you okay? It sounds like you've been crying." He told me. "Did someone make you cry? I'll murder them." He said and I smiled.
"Just a bit sick. I have a little cough and it makes me sound weird." I lied and it must have been convincing because then he went on about what medicine I have to take and how he hates being sick.
"Jordan, prciness, it's dinner time. Please come down. You need to eat." I heard Calum ask me and I sighed.
"Can't I just eat in my room?" I asked and Calum said no. "Fine." I sighed and looked at my phone. "Tay-Tay, I gotta go."
"Tay-Tay? Really J?" He asked me and I nodded and we both laughed a bit. "Okay then, I'll talk to you tomorrow yeah?" He asked and I nodded.
"Sounds like a plan, bye Tay-Tay." I said and after he told me bye, I ended the call and then turned my phone off. I went to my room and put my phone on the charger.
These contacts were irritating me so I took them out and threw them away. I put my glasses on and then went to my closet. I took my jeans off and put on a pair of cotton short shorts.
I walked out of my room and buttoned up the red flannel shirt as I did. This was so long, you couldn't even tell I was wearing shorts. It looked like a dress on me and it made me laugh just a bit.
"Whats so funny?" One of them asked and I spun in cirlces, watching as the shirt poofed out and looked like a dress. I wasn't doing it for their entertainment, but for my own.
"Come eat." Someone said and I looked up. I went to the table and sat down. I looked at the steak and potatoes and pulled my sleeves up. "You do have shorts under that, right?"
"Because I'd walk out of my room into a room full of men in just a shirt and my underwear." I said and looked at Ashton. "Of course I'm wearing shorts."
"The back talking, yeah, stop it." Ashton said but I ignored him as I picked at my food. I wasn't even hungry.
"Michael, when is Chelsea coming over again?" I asked him, looking at him slightly. "I wanna see her." I told him honestly.
"She's coming tomorrow and staying until Monday." He told me and I smiled while I nodded. "Feeling okay? You always eat. Do you not like this?"
"It's good." I said, keeping it blunt. He nodded and then continued eating. No one decided to make a conversation and it was awkward as hell.
"What's that on your hand?" Calum asked me and I held my hand out. "Who drew that?" He asked as he grabbed my hand and looked at the faded ink lines.
"My friend Timothy." I said and then pulled my sleeve down. "Taylor and Christian drew these. I loved Christian's." I said and showed him.
"Taylor.... that's a girl, right?" Michael asked me and I shook my head. "So all your friends are boys?" He said and I nodded.
"The girls there are so full of themselves and act as if they can do whatever they want without any consequence." I said nonchantly. "I hate them all." I said.
"So that person you were texting when we went to enroll you, that wasn't a girl, was it?" Michael caught on and I nodded. "Who?"
"Timothy." I said and played with the flannel. "Met him in Hot Topic and we've been texting since then. It was just a coincidence that I was enrolled into the same school."
"Oh." He said and I nodded. "You stayed over at his house when you didn't come home and then came home in his clothes?"
"If you're asking me if I slept with him when I was there, just stop, okay?" I said and pushed my food around some more. "I'm done." I said and stood up.
This time when I walked away, no one came running after me. Not that I wanted them to anyways.
