I woke up the same way I fell asleep, all alone.
I got up and meandered around the kitchen searching for cereal. After I had poured it into a bowl and added the milk, I couldn't even eat any of it. I was too upset, and my stomach was in knots.
I left my cereal on the counter before I wandered back into the living room to search for my phone.
But I looked everywhere and it was not anywhere to be found. I went towards the front door, thinking that I might have dropped it outside. I moved my hand to unlock the door, but it was already unlocked.
The only problem was that I had locked it the night before.
I opened the door, revealing a blank, white envelope sitting on the front step.
I quickly grabbed it before locking myself back in the house.
I quickly checked the whole house and locked all of the windows, and closed all of the doors until I was back in the living room. Now surrounded by my pillows and blankets which I put on the floor. I still couldn't find my phone, but I did have this mysterious enevelope to open. So I turned the tv on for some background noise before holding it in my hands.
Then I finally opened it.
Inside was a letter addressed to me.
Dear Mason,
How have you been? A bit tied up I bet.
Well now that you're free, I bet you're missing your family right about now. Hmmm? And maybe even feel about alone. Especially being all alone in that big house.
Now, by this time you're probably wondering and worried about your family. Well there's no need to. They are all safe and sound here with me. But if you ever want to see them again, you'll have to come and get them yourself. Just retrace your steps from yesterday, and you will find the exact location.
*Knock Knock*
- ER
I was confused. There were no directions or anything, and even if there were I had no way to get wherever they were.
But there was something eerie about the letter. As I reread the last part again, there was an actual knock at the door. So, heart pounding, and body shaking, I got back up and opened the door.
Sitting outside of my house was a black mustang, the keys to it, sitting on the front step infront of my feet.
I didn't even have my licence, but it was my only hope.
I snatched the keys and a bunch of other things before turning off the tv and locking the front door before piling everything into the car.
As I got into the driver seat there it was, sitting in the passenger seat, my phone.
