Its been around two weeks...I think. I've been trying to keep track of time, but it's been nearly impossible. There's no Windows, I sleep at different times every night, and my food has been brought at different times as well.

But I've found out where I am...somewhat. The sound out cars driving is heard almost constantly above my room, and I hear gunshots at least three times a night, so I know we're downtown, in the bad part of town. The place where the police never come. So if I ever did manage to escape, I'd probably get shot.

The only thing is that I need to escape.
I haven't had any food for the past two days, except for a couple of granola bars I've saved from previous meals.

You see, I think something has happened to my 'uncle'. Two days, or nights, or whatever you want to call them, ago there was alot of noise coming from outside the door to the secret room I'm in. I heard two voices yelling at each other and alot of loud banging. But the thing that made me realize that something was really wrong was when I heard the gunshot outside my door. After that, I knew I was trapped.

I've lost my voice screaming for help.
And I have no idea what to do.

I laid on the ground and just thought of my family, my real family and how utterly horrible this must be for them. I didn't even care about myself at the moment.

I wish I was back home, carefree with my family, trying to get back all the years that were taken from me.

After I started to feel tears drip onto my pants I wiped them away and stood up.

I couldn't take it anymore, I needed to get back to Mark. After pushing myself to feet I started to pace the room again and just think. After my sixth or seventh lap around the room, I paused by the spot where the door was in the wall and just stared at the ground. This was where the carpeting got wierd. There was a welcome mat sown into the rest of the carpet. I'd always known it was there, but I never thought anything of it. Then it hit me.

The night when I heard all the commotion outside of the room, the thing I heard someone yell before I heard the gunshots was "I always leave the keys under the mat."

....That was it! It had to be some sort of secret sign! I started to yank on the carpet, an surprisingly it was really easy to rip up.

Once I had pulled it up, there it was. A key...and a wallpaper scraper...

I frantically took the scraper and started to scratch away the paper that was on the door until I uncovered the key hole. Dropping the scraper to the floor I shakily put the key in the lock and turned it.

I heard a distinct click, and the door opened. I pushed it open and scrambled out of the room. Once I did I almost immediately regretted it.

There lying a few feet from the door was my 'uncle.' My kidnapper, lying in a dried up puddle of blood. Two bullet holes in his head.

Trying not to puke, I jumped over his lifeless body and just ran down the corridor. It was one long, dark endless hallway. I didn't look back, I just ran.

Then I saw it, my life saver. A staircase, leading to a door.

I trampled up the stairs to the door and immediately tried to open it, but it was locked.

I tried the key that I still had in my hand, but it didn't fit.

I didn't know what to do. My mind was buzzing, tears soaked my cheeks. I crumpled up into a ball and just screamed.

My screams echoed around me.

I dug my hand into the wiry feeling carpet next to me as I gasped for air.

The- The carpet. I opened my eyes and there sitting infront of me was another welcome Mat. I reached under it and screamed in triumph as I felt the could metal under my hand. I ripped it out from under the mat and unlocked the door.

I ran out into the street, without thinking, and just as I thought I was free, I turned to see headlights coming towards me at full speed.

I was free for only a moment before I was trapped in darkness once more.
