🎀EPILOGUE🎀
Happy reading...(read it at a slow pace)
CHESTERMERE, ALBERTA, CANADA
The huge window dispensed a moderate, yet the perfect amount of positivity as the flaming sunrays seemed to be affected by the cool whiff naturally present in the spring atmosphere. As the electrifying breeze joined his sleeping soul, he slowly opened his orbs. He lazily sank into his surroundings and snuggled more in her sleeping form that was stuck to his chest.
Naina's eyes flew open as she sensed him staring at her. Her smile was as bright as the sunlight outside because the first sight she witnessed after her peaceful sleep was his. Sameer too passed back a curvy smile to her and mumbled, "Good morning Naina".
"Good morning...aap na humesha mujhe alarm bajne se pehle hi utha dete ho" She chuckled.
"Achaw... tusi ape hi jaag jaande ho.. mai nhi tohadi need kharab karda" (Achaw.. aap apne aap hi jaag jaate ho.. mai nhi apki need kharab karta), he spoke as the matter of fact.
"Acha ji.. svere svere (subah subah) Punjabi.. mujhe na pta chal jaata hai jab aap mujhe aise dekhte ho.." She said. Without wasting a second, he was gonna stop her blabbering by giving her a sweet morning kiss, but all went in vain as Naina put her hand in between while saying irritatingly, "Ki ae Sameer.. you know na ke mainu bina brush keete kiss karna bilkul nhi changa lagda" (Kya hai Sameer.. apko pta hai na ki mujhe bina brush kiye kiss karna bilkul acha nhi lagta).
"Apko kya hai.. saara mood spoil kar diya..jaa rha hu brush karne" He was about to get up when Naina held his hand from the back and gave a sugary invitation by herself. He still denied it saying, "No Naina.. mujhe pta hai you find it gross..let's just go and brush our teeth.. fir toh aap agar mana bhi karoge toh bhi mai rukne nhi wala" Soon his romantic mode was turned on which was as rare as hen's teeth.
"Yeh apko bhi pta hai ki apse connected koi bhi cheez mere liye gross nhi ho sakti, bas mujhe yeh thoda unhygienic lagta hai.. "She gave him a cheeky yet overwhelmed smile and both of them headed towards the restroom to brush their teeth in separate washbasins.
They came out after sometime and caught a sight of their ringing alarm, so now there was no time left for them and Sameer hurriedly picked up his clothes and rushed hotfoot to the washroom in order to take a shower.
He came out after ten minutes, well dressed in his formals. "Naina, aaj breakfast ki turn meri hai.. tusi aithe da vekho te mai neeche jaa rheya ha (aap idhar ka dekho aur mai neeche jaa rha hu), he sprinted downstairs after informing Naina.
Sameer had just prepared the breakfast and lunch for the office when he saw Naina heading downstairs. She gave him a quick loving glance and said, "Sameer.. humare paas utna time nhi hai ki yaha baithke breakfast kare.. mai yeh khana pack kar leti hu aur car me khud bhi kha lungi aur apko bhi khila dungi".
He nodded and went to start the car while she was busy packing their food. Soon they all were settled comfortably in the car and now she was feeding him the food while he was driving. "Khud bhi toh khao" Sameer asked Naina raising his eyebrows. "Hmm.. mai bhi kha rhi hu beech beech me.. aap driving pe dhyaan do" She directed him.
Both of them were doing their tasks when suddenly a cute voice came from behind, "Mom.. we wanna have a bite too". Naina chuckled as her already full twins wanted to have more food, just to eat from their mother's hands.
Sameer too let out a light laugh and said, "Randeep, Purvi.. you guys are already five years old.. pta hai agar apke friends ko pta laga na.. ke tusi halle tak aap roti nhi khaande ta oh tohada mazak udaunge (ki aap abhi tak khud roti nhi khaate toh vo apka mazak udayenge)".
Purvi laughed freely and asked, "Pops.. how can you mix three languages together!!"
"Hey Purvi.. mom ne bola hai ki hume unke and Pops ke saath hindi or punjabi me talk karna hai.. nhi toh hum yeh languages forget ho jaayenge..you better obey me.. mai tera big baii (Bhai) hu", There stood the mumma's boy, Randeep, who clearly was struggling to speak in a different language, but was trying his best to dominate his three minutes younger sister Purvi, the Pops's princess.
Their banter continued till they all reached the kids' school. Randeep and Purvi were dropped off and now the parents were left alone in the car as they were heading towards their office.
"Apko pta hai Sameer, yeh Purvi itna time lagati hai na ready hone me ki poocho mat.. jab apki turn hoti hai breakfast and lunch prepare karne ki toh yeh ladki uthne ka naam nhi leti.. Randeep ta aram naal tyaar ho jaanda..(Randeep toh araam se tyaar ho jata hai)" She spoke, complaining about Purvi.
"Aur jab apki turn hoti hai toh mere saath ulta hota hai.. meri princess to bilkul tang nhi karti.. bas yehi shaitaan karta hai" He chuckled.
This was how their married life had turned into a happily married life. Neither of them was ADJUSTING, both of them were just loving, and supporting each other with full devotion and affection.
Soon the car was parked in the parking lot and Sameer was heading towards THEIR office, proudly walking with her while holding her hand.
No one could be seen as soon as they stepped in, and the light had disappeared like acetone. Their entire surrounding was covered in darkness. They waited and waited, but it remained the same.
"Sameer.. aa ki? Asi office ch hi vade si na?" (Sameer.. yeh kya? hum office me hi ghuse the na?), He chuckled seeing her innocence, but soon got tensed as they were standing for five minutes but no one could be seen.
Unexpectedly yet instantaneously, all the lights got switched on, lightening each and every corner of the home like office. It was then they noticed that the whole office had took a bath in different varieties of decorative stuff. Everyone promptly came out of nowhere and started making noises of happiness and shouted out loud, "HAPPY 7th ANNIVERSARY NAINA AND SAMEER".
"Thank you.. thank you.. thanks a lot everyone.. but our anniversary's tomorrow, not today" Sameer spoke.
"We know that already Sameer, but as you guys know that tomorrow is a weekend, and we didn't wanna ruin your family celebration.. so we decided to celebrate it with you both today itself" Sharad came forward and informed both of them on the behalf of everyone else present there.
Naina smiled seeing a completely changed Sharad in their office. No more he and his friends oogle shamelessly over any girl like they used to, no more they have a disrespectfulness for women like they used to. All credit goes to her man, who regained what he had earned before.
Naina came out of trance as their cake cutting was announced by the staff. Her smile became wider as they cut the ravishing cake, and then fed each other before doing the same to other people one by one.
New memories were captured in their phones and cameras. They had reached home by now, and the family was having some healthy talks, including Sameer's parents.
"Puttar.. tum dono ko kitni baar kaha hai ki subah bachon ko hum tyaar kar diya karenge.. par tum ho ki hume uthne hi nhi dete" Simran voiced her thoughts.
"Mom..hum khud ko self sufficient banana chaahte hain apne bacchon ke mamle me.. maanlo aap dono India gye huye ho aur inka school laga ho.. tab bhi toh hume hi karna padega na sab kuch.." Naina said to her mother in law.
"Sameer teri help karta bhi hai ya soya rehta hai?" Simran asked.
"Nhi mom.. yeh toh poori help karte hain.. aap tension mat lo.." Naina smiled, eying lovingly at Sameer.
"Acha saare mainu dasso ais waari asi kithe ghuman jaa rhe ne?" (Acha saare mujhe btao iss baar hum kaha ghoomne jaa rhe hain), Vivekdeep asked, being more than excited about their summer vacation.
"Hum iss baar... SWITZERLAND JAAYENGE" Sameer yelled, but soon closed his mouth as he saw everyone glaring at him.
"Sameer.. mai Switzerland nhi jaa rhi" Naina said.
"Par apne khud mujhe yaha first time ate hue bola tha ki you love Switzerland, hun ki hoya? (Ab kya hua?)", Sameer replied asked at the same time.
"Hoya kuj nhi.. bas mai chevi waari Switzerland nhi jaa sakdi" (Hua kuch nhi.. bas mai chevi baar Switzerland nhi jaa sakti). Naina fake smiled making everyone burst into peals of laughter.
"Pops.. iss baar hum Switzerland nhi go kar rhe.. " Purvi stepped in.
Sameer made her sit in his lap and asked, "Toh meri Princess ko kaha jana hai? Hum vahi chalenge"
Purvi rubbed her index finger on her temple, as if thinking something deeply, and spoke after sometime, "Pops.. hum humesha summer vacation wali place se return karne time India go karte hain.. this time hum nhi karenge.. " Sameer was about to object, but closed his mouth seeing her raised palm as she continued after gulping some saliva, "Hum India winter vacation me go karenge.. mumma told me that vaha pe at that time boht saare..umm.. yes.. Tai-yo-haur (tyohaar) hote hain.. we both wanna see that".
Soon she recieved the appericiative glances as neither of them had got such an idea and she being a small kid, was mature enough to know the importance of their festivals. After a long chit chat, it was decided that they all would go to Disney land in the summer vacation and India in the winter vacation.
They all had their dinner while their discussion about the vacations continued with full delirium. Now, Naina and Sameer were sitting together in their room, and the countdown for the start of their seventh anniversary had started. The turned their faces to each other at the same time, and looking at the mobile, the counted,

"HAPPY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY NAINA/SAMEER", both of them almost teared each other's ear drums by yelling this line extremely loud. They laughed, and then hugged each other finding their solace. Soon they locked their lips in long passionate kiss, their every pour was celebrating their seven years of togetherness. A span of seven years is a great deal, and now they had crossed these many years together, always nurturing each other.
Happiness reached no bounds and they were smiling like idiots, the same way they did after their first kiss. And the mention of their first kiss brought back the memories of Pandit and Preeti's wedding in Sameer's mind.
Naina sensed something and asked, "Ki hoya Sameer?" (Kya hua Sameer?)
Sameer decided to share everything "Umm.. Naina.. maine yeh baat apko kabhi nhi btayi.. I mean..iss baat ke baare me apni feelings apse kabhi share nhi ki.. apko yaad hai Preeti aur Pandit ki shaadi wale din.. vo incident.."
Flashback starts
"Puttar ji..tusi Naina de husband ho na?" (Beta ji.. aap Naina ke husband ho na?) A relative abruplty appeared when Sameer was putting food in his and Naina's common plate.
"Hanji.. mai Naina ka husband hi hu.. kuch kaam tha apko?" Sameer asked politely.
"Tohanu punjabi nhi bolni aundi??.. Naina ne tohade naal vyaah kiwe kra leya? Mainu ta tohadi boldi samjh vi nhi aundi.. ae kiwe bol rhe ho tusi" (Apko punjabi nhi bolni ati? Naina ne apke saath shaadi kaise karli? Mujhe toh apki bhasha samajh bhi nhi ati.. yeh kaise bol rhe ho aap?), The 'aunty' gave a disgusting look to Sameer, indirectly insulting him.
Naina who had witnessed the whole scenario stepped in the conversation and instantly replied on the behalf of Sameer, "Aunty.. mai ehna de naal vayah keeta kyoki mainu eh boht pyaar karde ne, mera khyaal rakhde ne, te tohanu nhi lagda ke je ohna nu Punjabi nhi bolni aundi, ta saanu ohna nu comfortable feel karona chahida.. te tusi ta ehna di insult kar rhe ho.. ohh vi ik tucchi jayi gall layi" (Aunty.. maine inke saath shaadi isliye ki kyuki mujhe yeh boht pyaar karte hain, mera khyaal rakhte hain, aur apko nhi lagte ki agar unkp Punjabi nhi bolni ati, toh hum unko comfortable feel karana chahiye.. aur aap toh inki insult kar rhe ho.. vo bhi ek choti si baat ke liye).
Naina took a stand for him, she supported him, as always. And this touched Sameer to a great extent and made him realize some more things.
Flashback ends
"Matlab tusi oh aunty karke Punjabi sikkhi? (Matlab apne vo aunty ki vajah se Punjabi seekhi?) Naina's eyes turned into saucers.
"Nhi nhi.. maine toh apke liye seekhi.. agar aap mere liye itna kuch kar sakte ho to kya mai apke liye ek language tak nhi bolna seekh sakta? Vo bhi vo language jo mai doosre logo se sunta aa rha hu?" He raised his eyebrows. She was overwhelmed by his gesture. She took her own sweet time to sink in it, and spoke breaking the emotional moment, "Vo toh theek hai par aap mujhe yeh sab abhi kyu yaad karva rhe ho?".
"Naina.. uss din mujhe yeh realize hua tha ki maine jitna socha tha mai toh usse bhi zyada galat tha.. apne mujhe har step pe support kiya hai, mere liye stand liya hai..apko yaad jab hum ek baar kisi party me gye the aur mere kuch friends apke accent ke baare me object kar rhe the.. tab maine kuch bhi nhi kiya.. maine apko bilkul support nhi kiya.. aur meri jagah mere ek aur friend ne apke liye stand liya.. I'm really sorry for that.. tab jaake mujhe samajh aya ki kuch baatein jataane se hi samne wale ke dil tak pohochti hain" Sameer was regretting remembering about that incident.
"Sameer.. ab vo baatein yaad karne ka koi matlab nhi banta.. aur iss baat ka hisaab aap boht pehle poora kar chuke ho.. yaad nhi apko uss din jab.." This time it was Naina who brought back some memories.
Flashback starts
It had been three months since they had returned from Preeti and Pandit's wedding. They were finally leading a happy life together after facing every hurdle that life had thrown at them.
One fine day, Naina was worshipping in their home-gurudwara. The idea of constructing a small gurudwara at home was of Sameer as he had noticed Naina doing this practice in India. But here in Canada, the gurudwara made by the sikh community was far away from their home, so Naina could only go there on the weekends. But now, she would worship every morning and night for her satisfaction. Sameer was more than happy to do this for her.
Naina had just finished doing her ritual when the door bell rang. She ran to the door and unlocked it, only to see a small group of men in formals.
"Yes?" She started the conversation to know the reason behind their presence.
"We're Mr. Sameerdeep Gill's clients. We wanted to discuss about terms and conditions of our latest project." One of them answered unwillingly.
"Ohh.. you all can come inside.. by the way which project are you talking about?" Naina asked, not aware of what was coming.
"It's none of your business. May we come inside?" The man answered a bit louder this time, which displayed that he was definitely irritated.
Without a word, Naina moved to a side to let them come in. Then she noticed herself. She was wearing a normal suit with her dupatta on her head as she was in the gurudwara before. It was then it stuck to her that those people had misunderstood her as a maid. She decided to talk about it with Sameer later.
Sameer who was a bystander till now, cooked up something in his brain and welcomed his so called clients.
They all had just comforted themselves in their seats when Sameer spoke up, "See.. I can't sign these papers.. I wanna cancel this collaboration." Naina looked up with jerk and saw him showing his palm in assurance to her.
"What do you mean Mr. Gill? How can you cancel it without even looking at the papers?!" One of them spoke, immensely horrified by this sudden rejection.
"So what.. I'm looking at you guys' dress code and our interior company doesn't support this theme, no matter how efficient you all are" Sameer replies.
"You can't just do this Mr. Gill".
"What's the problem? Even you guys made assumptions on my WIFE'S IDENTITY, judging her by her clothes. And you know what? She's the owner of this company too, she's my partner.
Loud gasps were clear enough to show that they were more than astonished.
Sameer made them understand that one should never judge a person on his/her choices. They apologized to Naina and themcollaboration papers were signed by Sameer on Naina's insistence.
Flashback ends
"Uss din apne prove kar diya tha ki agar mai kabhi bhi apne aap kuch handle na kar pau toh aap humesha mere peeche khade rhoge.. mera support system banke" She held his hand.
"Thank you so much Naina.. mujhe ek aur chance dene ke liye.. thanks a lot" He said.
"Vo toh maine maan hi jana tha.. ab mai apse itne time ke liye door thodi reh sakti thi" She gave him a naughty smile.
"Kyu??" Although he knew the answer, but wanted to hear it from her mouth.
"Kyuki.. I love you patidev" She chuckled.
"I love you too" His smile got wider.
The next morning cam with new aspirations as it was officially their seventh marriage anniversary. The twins sprinted to their parent's room as soon as they woke up.
"Happy Anniversary Mom..Happy anniversary Dad" Randeep and Purvi recited together.
"Thanku bacha.. ajj ta weekend ae.. eddi jaldi kiwe uth gye tusi??" (Aaj toh weekend hai, itni jaldi kaise uth gye aap?) Naina asked them, eying both of them simultaneously.
"Pakka meri princess ko yaad hoga.. aur usne hi Randeep ko bhi uthaya hoga" Sameer nudged Purvi and made her giggle.
"Kyu ji.. mere guglupucchu ko bhi toh yaad ho sakta hai" Naina defended Randeep.
"Mom.. hindi me talk karo na.. what's gullugullu?" Randeep made everyone laugh.
"Happy Anniversary bacchon" A group of similar voices rang in their ears.
All of them turned to the source and saw Simran and Vivekdeep holding a phone in their hands that displayed Naina's parents live on a video call. They all showered their best wishes and the couple thanked everyone.
The huge wedding anniversary cake was cut by the limelight couple in the evening and a grand party was thrown where gang of six was meeting after two weeks. Randeep and Purvi also found their company as Siddharth, the son of Munna and Swati and Isha, the daughter of Preeti and Pandit joined them.
They all had a gala time. Now Naina and Sameer were sitting in their room, taking a trip down memory lane.
"Sameer" Naina called him, while resting her head on his broad chest.
"Hmm" He hummed in response.
"Thank you.. mujhe samjhne ke liye.. thank you.. mere saath bhi ADJUST karne ke liye..thanks a lot.. mai jaisi hu mujhe vaise accept karne ke liye" She vocalized.
"Fer ta mere kol tohade to vi jada thank yous ne.. sabto pehle mainu accept karan wale tusi si..sabto pehle mere layi tusi ADJUST keeta.. te mainu maaf karan wale vi tusi hi si.. Thank you so much Naina" (Fir toh mere paas apse bhi zyada thank yous hain.. sabse pehle mujhe accept karne wale aap the.. sabse pehle mere liye sabse pehle mere liye apne ADJUST kiya.. aur mujhe maaf karne wale bhi aap hi the) Sameer replied.
She smiled at him and both spoke up together, "Thank you for making my life even more beautiful"
Our dear Samaina relished each phase of THEIR life together, without ADJUSTMENTS.
