Chapter 5; Decisions have to be made

UNEDITED

IFEOLUWA
I grabbed my school bag from the little chair sitting beside my bed as I started to walk to the door.
I picked everything that completed the look in my room. From the furniture to the paint and to every little other detail that finished off this princess themed room.
As I made my way downstairs,I could hear the the noise of plates clashing with each other and also the aroma of my best food, jollof rice, indicating that my mum was in the kitchen, already cooking breakfast

As I walked into the dinning room I greeted my parents.
"Good morning mum, good morning Dad...wait....dad?"

"Wow... Look how excited you are to see your father." my dad said sarcastically

" Dad!!" I exclaimed as I pulled my dad into one of the best bear hugs I could ever give

"When did you come back from Canada?" I continued still hugging him

"My flight landed yesterday and I decided to make it a surprise since it has been how long?... Three months right since we've seen each other."

" I've missed you so much daddy" I replied, finally pulling away

" I've missed you too my princess" he said ruffling my hair

" And don't I deserve a hug too?" My mum chipped in
I walked across the room to give her a hug also.

" Good morning mum" I said laughing at her jealousy

"Kaaro oko mi. I'm sorry mummy came home late last night. We had a light night emergency at the hospital. I hope you eat dinner" she apologized as she served us the aromatic jollof rice.
(Good morning my child)

" It's fine mum... Remember I'm a big girl now. I can take care of myself. I cooked spaghetti when I got back form school yesterday so I wasn't feeling too hungry in the night" I replied proudly

Ive learnt how to cook since I was 10. It was because my mum wasnt always at home so I had to learn through trial and errors.
Though I wouldn't really blame my mum. She just wants the best for me and that's why she works so hard.

" You know kemi this is exactly what I've been talking about... My daughter is just 16 years old. 16 years old o! And she's already sounding so independent like an adult. And I'm expected to trust you with this child when I travel" I heard my dad about in anger from the other side of the room.

I guess I forgot to tell you. My mum and dad weren't a very loving couple if I should say it that way. Sometimes I can't help but to wander if they got married because I was conceived mistakenly instead of love. They always bicker at each other because of the smallest things.

"Tunde ma tie bami soyen rara! O tun ti bere o. Ma Jen binu sie" my mum roared back
(Tunde don't said that to me at all. You know you've started again. Don't make me get angry at you)
"Does she look like she's a baby? She's 16 for Christ's sake! I don't know why you're making a big fuss about something this mediocre" my mum continued

I kind of found what my mum said very reasonable. Sometimes my dad could be very overprotective of me considering I was the only child and also a girl.

" Mediocre Sade?? You call worrying about my child's welfare mediocre??" My dad had already stood up from his chair on the dinning table and was getting angrier at this point.
One thing I knew about my dad was to NEVER get on his angry side. Because of that I tried to quietly leave the dinning room even before finishing my beautiful jollof rice.
Note the word. Tried...

"Tunde if this is about what you said this morning. Then no. Rara o...mio le mu omo mi lo side anty e o" I heard my mother exclaim.
(No. I can't take my daughter to your elder sister's place)

That was enough to make me forget my plans of escaping as I turned back to face my mum and dad.

Dad please! Anywhere but big mummy's place!
I mentally pleaded. I wouldn't dare say that out since my dad was already on the verge of exploding and o didn't want him to transfer all the aggression on me.

"That's it! As far as I'm concerned I am still the head of this family and whatever I say stands! Shes going to her big mummy's place this weekend and that's the last I'll be hearing of this!" He replied.
Oh no! Dad pulled the 'head of the family' card

Mummy you're my only hope now. Please say something!

To my despair my mum didn't utter another word as she just focused on her food

"Start packing your bags when you come back from school ife. You're going to big mummy's house" my dad said before taking his car keys and leaving the house.

That's it! My life is finally ruined!

But little did I know at this stage that the journey of my life just began the moment my dad took that decision...
