~~~SHEHRY's POV~~~
We packed up after some final clicks and I was finally allowed to change my outfit. I cleaned the makeup off my face and rubbed in some cold cream. Over the years, I had forgotten photoshoots are such a hassle. I am killing Hussain for doing this to me!
By the time I got changed and stepped out of the green room, everyone was gone except Soha. She stood by door, dressed up in a purple gown.
"Oh hey! Let's go!" She smiled and I frowned, collecting my phone. "Where to?"
"My team and I usually party after shoots. You better join us this time," she pointed her index finger at me. It was more like an order so, I shook my head and followed her.
Party at this hour? Strange.
We drove back to our hotel and entered the crowded room. The unpleasant smell of alcohol engulfed me. People are drinking even in the afternoon. I wanted to walk out of there when Soha grabbed my hand and dragged me inside. The loud music tortured my ears and neon lights irritated me. Not that I have not been to clubs before but this just felt so different.
"Hey man! Look who is here!" I heard someone yell in my ear and I instantly turned to face the person. He walked past me and hugged Soha. Once they pulled away, that man finally gave me a nod as a sign of acknowledgment and soon they both disappeared somewhere in the crowd.
Right! I sighed and walked over to the bar counter. I took a seat and looked around, searching for any familiar faces. I couldn't see any of the crew members siting around. They were all probably packed on that dance floor and even if they weren't, I couldn't tell because of the lighting here.
"One soda," I turned to the waiter and he nodded at me.
While I waited for it, I turned to my phone and flicked through the apps, liking a few picture and tweets. Finally I stopped at Facebook and checked my messages. While I was busy, even she didn't bother flicking me a message. Why boys first at this when its always ladies first at everything else? I sighed and sent a message anyway.
"One Lemon drop," I heard a girl near me again and this time I didn't bother turning to face the voice. "Oh my God! Shehryaar Asif!" She shriek and I jumped in my spot.
I turned to her and smiled. "Damn! It's you!" She grinned, probably on her way to kissing the floor. She looked wasted.
"Hey," I nodded with a smile as she took a seat next to me. The waiter came and kept my drink in front of me. I lifted the glass and almost gulped down the fluid when...
"Do you mind if I feel you?" She asked and I chocked on my drink, "uhh... That came out wrong!"
That did come out wrong in many ways! I coughed and cleared my throat before turning to her.
"I meant like.. I can't believe you are here! Hold on! I'll go and call my friends. They are your huge fans!" She ran back into the crowd again.
Quickly cleaning my face, I got up to leave. Ek aisi hai toh baki kaisi hongi?
~~~PREET's POV~~~
"Go away!" I groaned as Waqas dived into my Churros. He pulled out a stick anyway and stuck his tongue out at me.
"Such a kid!" I commented, rolling my eyes. "Such a bhukkad!" He sneered back and I threw a cushion at him.
Roop laughed at us and I sighed. I offered her some Churros but she refused. I have met her a few times and she still seems too shy. Whereas Waqas claims that she is a crazy head; she literally invaded the stores at the mall the other day, shopped for hours and didn't complain at all. But here, she is all sweet and silent.
They say if someone acts crazy around you, it's because they are comfortable with you. Maybe She is comfortable around Waqas? Sad how he doesn't see anyone except Malvika.
Aur Malvika toh pata nahi kahaan udi hui hai?
Suddenly my plate dipped and I gasped as Waqas stole more of my Churros. "Waqas!" I cried and he laughed, teasingly.
"Kha kha ke moti ho gayi hai! Control kar!" He laughed and Roop gasped beside me. "That's so mean! You are the one who gained four kilos in just four days so, Stay away from her plate now!"
I like this girl.
"Yeah!" I sucked in a shallow breath and snorted.
"And you stay away from our chat, damn stranger!" Waqas jeered and my jaw dropped. He was loud and rough.
That was plain rude!
Roop stared at him for a few seconds before lowering her eyes. I looked at Waqas who looked quite irritated for some reason.
"S-sorry," Roop whispered, looking down at her hands, "I have to be home for dinner. Everyone must be waiting. See you tomorrow." She quickly smiled and hugged me before walking out.
"What was that?" I asked Waqas the moment Roop left. He huffed and dropped on the couch.
"She is just too nosy and irritating. Nosh has been pushing her into everything," he rolled his eyes and looked everywhere but at me, "I came here for a holiday and not to become a tourist guide. And now she is into our family as well."
"That still doesn't explain why you had to be rude," I muttered and he looked up at me. "Her presence is starting to annoy me. Nosh send her everywhere I go and then teases me about shit."
"So what's the problem?" I asked, not understanding why that bothered him so much.
"Because mom asked if I like her or not," he sighed, staring at the floor and I nodded. "And?"
"Preet?" He frowned, looking up at me like I was an alien, "like her in that sort of way! Shadi sort of way!"
I chocked on whatever that was left in my mouth and Waqas rolled his eyes. He got up and passed me a glass of water, "get it now?"
"When did that happen?"
"This morning. And since then, all my friendliness is gone! Whoosh!" He opened his fists, raising his hands in the air like fire works.
"So this is your way of letting her know that she needs to stay away?"
It's quite dumb to be honest.
"Genius!" He clapped sarcastically, "in case she has something fishy going on her head too, I need her to know that we can't happen."
"But I like her," I admitted lowly, "and it's not her fault you fell for someone else before meeting her. Why be mean to her?"
"Oh! Just Stop taking her side now," he groaned and I lightly chuckled. "Come on, you are better than this. I have never seen you being rude to anyone before. This is going to be hard for you, you know?"
"Whatever." He scrunched his nose, not wanting to agree with me.
"There is another way out, tell her about your situation. It's better than randomly throwing words at her," I smiled as he dropped his shoulders in defeat.
"I am not doing that!"
"Then at least don't be mean."
"Fine!"
"Now Go say sorry," I shrugged and he eyed me for a few seconds with utter disbelief flashing in them.
"You will make a pretty annoying mum!" He snorted finally.
I gasped at his comment and narrowed my eyes at him. He chose not to care while another voice chose to speak up on my behalf.
"And a proud one too!" Someone said and my head jerked towards the main door. "Asmaara!" I grinned as she appreared from behind it.
Hussain, Maha and Asmaara had gone out for some baby shower shopping. She happened to be in New York for a meeting when I told her about Shehry's shoot. It took us ages to convince her that she should surprise him here instead of New York.
"Oye! Kya hai bey?" Hussain asked Waqas, raising his eyebrow as he approached us, "what were your saying again?"
He came and sat beside me. I smiled at him.
"Biwi ka chamcha," Waqas muttered, loud enough for only me to catch. I threw a cushion at him and he instantly scooted away, saving himself. I shook my head when he stuck his tongue out at me.
"I have to go!" He announced, racing for the door. "Don't forget to apologise!" I called out and received exactly what I had thought.
"Shut up Preet! And I hate you!" He yelled before closing the door.
I laughed to myself while the others just stared at me. I stopped and scooted closer to Hussain, resting my head on his arm. It was time to explore those amazing shopping bags.
~~~WAQAS' POV~~~
I fisted my hand and lightly punched the steering wheel as Preet's words came running back to me. Parking my car in front of my garage, I jumped out and debated if I should say sorry to Roop or not. It's not her fault that Nosh has been shoving her in my face. She probably doesn't even know.
It's only been a few days since I first met her and now it feels like we have been together forever. This is how much Nosh throws her at me all the time. From shopping to visiting my friends; she has to tag Roop along. Her excuse; Roop doesn't have any friends here. They why can't she take her around herself?
When mom asked me if I liked Roop, I had said yes. But, I was only looking at her as a nice person sort of way. Not even friends so that wife thing dropped like a bomb at me.
Apparently, Nosh think I'll turn into Bollywood's next Salman khan, without toned abs and biceps, if I don't get married soon. She doesn't want my kids to be younger than her kids' kids. This is how hopeless she thinks I am.
Use kya pata. Kisi ka intezaar hai kab se.
I sighed and knocked at Roop's door. Preet was right, I am never the rude type. It just doesn't work that way for me. If I don't apologise now, I might not end up sleeping the whole night. This hollow pit in my stomach won't let me.
The door sprung open, revealing Roop in a black tank top and pink sweatpants. She stared at me with her jaw dropped and just when I chose to step forward, the door slammed shut on my face.
"Oww!" I jumped back, holding my nose, as a strong pain shot through my face.
She banged the door at my nose!
What the Ef?
Mujhe bhi nahi bolna koi sorry- vorry.
I turned around to leave when I heard the door opening again. I turned to face it, still holding my nose, strongly hoping for no fractured bones. Something had changed; something looked different. Roop was wearing a jacket now.
"Hey!" she mumbled, almost to herself. I nodded taking my hand off my nose.
Her eyes widened as she killed the distance between us. Her fingers wrapped around my hand and she took it closer to her face to look at it before looking up at me.
"You are bleeding!" She gasped and I frowned at my fingers. There were some traces of blood on it.
"Come with me," Roop pulled me inside and made me sit on the couch while she disappeared somewhere. Moments later, she came back with antiseptic cream, cotton and a bandaid.
Great! I'll have to go around with that thing on my nose!
"I am sorry," she sighed as she sealed the cut with the bandaid and I shook my head. "No... In fact... I came here to ... To say...."
Come on, How hard can this be?
"I am sorry," I finally said those words and she frowned at me. I chose to continue, "I was mean to you for no reason. Sorry about that."
No Preet, I am not telling Roop my reasons. Whatsoever.
She nodded and then smiled, "I was making coffee, want some?"
So am I forgiven?
"But-"
"There is no fun having it alone," she pouted, making me frown. "You had to be home for dinner so why are you alone. Your family?"
"They went out for a family dinner," she shrugged, getting off the couch and heading towards where I guess the kitchen must be.
"Family dinner? Without you?" I asked out of curiosity.
"You like normal sugar, less milk and strong coffee, right?" She cross questioned me, ignoring my frown completely.
Wait! She knows the type of coffee I like?
"I realised your taste when we stopped at Starbucks. I am no stalker type," she giggled, as if reading my thoughts.
"Right!" I sighed and followed her in there.
"And your dinner plans?" I asked, looking at the spotless bench top. Why? Don't ask me.
"I don't know, I'll probably fix myself with some toast."
Her reply made me frown even more. She had to be home for dinner and now her has gone out and she will fix herself with some toast?
You idiot! She was going to stay at Hussain's for dinner until you made her leave. That's why she is not out with her family or has anything prepared for dinner. My mind analysed, leaving me feeling guilty!
After giving it a long thought; I moved forward and turned the stove off. Roop's head jerked to look at me and I smirked at her.
"Let's go out for dinner," I suggested and she raised an eyebrow at me. "Are sure You wana dine with a damn stranger?"
Acha bachu? Meri billi aur mujhi ko meow?
I rolled my eyes and stepped back, "I am only trying to avoid the rat kill you might have mixed in this!"
She gasped, opening her mouth in 'O' shape, "jerk!"
I chuckled and turned around to leave, "Meet me by my car in ten or else I love my own company more!"
"I am not coming!" She yelled from behind and I smirked to myself.
"Oh baby! We both know you will!"
~~~SHEHRY'S POV~~~
By the time my flight landed, I was exhausted. To top it all, Hussain had decided to ditch me too so I had to catch a cab home. Soha and I parted ways as she went with her new guy friend whose name is still unknown to me. They were too busy conversing that she completely forgot that I existed too.
Finally a cab stopped in front of me and I sat inside. Once the bags were loaded, I gave my address to the driver and impatiently waited to get home. I just want to go and sleep because I wanted tomorrow to be here already. Its Preet's baby shower and Asmaara will be finally here.
Within Half an hour, I was outside my house. Moments later, Maha opened the door for me and grinned. Giving me a tight hug, she ran inside. I followed her to the living room and saw everyone smiling at me in a pretty weird sort of way.
Okay?
"Salam!" I greeted and they replied in unison. Preet went back to peeling the potatoes, Hussain glued his eyes to the TV again and mom disappeared behind the kitchen door.
I figured dad must still be at work. Yeah, he still works as it keeps him busy and active.
"I am going to go to my room then," I said almost to myself and walked down the corridor. No one was interested in striking a conversation or at least asking me how my shoot went.
"Have fun!" Hussain yelled from the living room, making me frown. Strange is one word for everyone's goofy smiles; this is strange times hundred maybe.
What are they up to?
Peeling my jacket off, I threw it on my bed. Something moved behind me and before I knew it, someone's fingers snaked in front of my eyes, blocking my view. My skin tickled at the soft touch as I knew who it belonged to. But how could she be here?
My hands instantly wrapped around the thin, smooth ones as the person breathed against my t-shirt.
Asmaara....
"Why do I have to be so short?" she groaned behind me and I chuckled, pulling her hands away.
I turned around and Asmaara came face to face with me. "How are you not surprised?" she frowned at me, "damn I almost had a heart attack that day!"
I chuckled, remembering the day when I had surprised her. My insides were exploding and for a moment I thought she wasn't really in front of me. I knew I was wrong.
"No, I am just sleepy," I shrugged, supressing my smirk. I wanted to pull her cheek when her smile dropped.
She sighed, nodding, "oh ok, uh then you should sleep. We will talk tomorrow. Goodnight."
She turned around to leave and I mentally slapped myself. She is actually here and I am pushing her away. Instantly reaching for her wrist, I halted her, "I guess I'd like to spend time with you more."
She looked up at me, her eyes boring into mine, "it's ok. You should sleep if you are tired. I have better company out there."
Her hair were cascading, down her back. She wore a red kurti; The one I had bought along with all the other clothes. And That smile. Innocent and attractive as always.
"Stop staring me like this!" She suddenly snapped me out of my daze and I frowned as she turned away again. I bent to her level and smirked, "Why?"
"Because it's awkward and....." She paused and sighed, "you are making me nervous."
"You are the one who snuck up behind me and now you are getting nervous?" I chuckled, straightening my posture.
"Whatever," she muttered, running for the door.
~~~ASMAARA's POV~~~
I ran for the door and Shehry followed me. He caught up in no time; not like it was a race or anything anyway. He pulled me back and closed the door before leaning against it.
"Missed me?" He finally asked with a smile appearing on his lips and I sheepishly nodded. "A lot."
I missed this touch, smile, smell; Being with you.
"Me too!" He smiled and I shook my head. "Tum kyu mujhe miss karne lage? Liar! You were too busy shooting with those hot girls."
"Uh woh.. Wait!" Within a second, a smirk appeared on his lips, "tum? What happened to aap?"
He raised his eyebrows and I scowled at him before slapping his arm lightly, "Forget about it."
"But it was cute!" he moved away from the door and took a step towards me.
"Yeah right," I rolled my eyes, "after all, it gave you a good reason to laugh at me!"
"I didn't laugh; I snickered," he corrected like a genius, making me snort. "You know what? It was a bad idea. I am going."
"Acha baba I am sorry!" He quickly added with a chuckle and then sighed before holding my shoulders. He rolled his tongue over his bottom lip before speaking, "But I really found it cute. I swear to.... To those paranthas you made! Ab khush?"
Those turned out pretty disastrous.
His eyebrows moved up and down while he waited for me to answer. More like, waited for what came next. I burst out laughing at his cute eyebrow movement and he joined in too.
"Come here!" His arms wrapped around my shoulders as he pulled me in for a hug. I instantly stopped him by putting my hand on his firm chest. His heart, slowly beating under my palm, almost got me but, I quickly focused on what was happening.
"Shehry?" I whispered his name, looking into his eyes. He stepped forward but, my hand maintained a good distance between us. "hmm?"
I moved closer to him but just as he was about to wrap his arm around me, I pushed him on the bed and raced for the door again.
"Dinner is ready!" I yelled, and ran outside, "come fast!"
"I'll get ya!" I heard him yell behind me. His laugh followed after, making me grin to myself.
~
By the time Shehry reached the dining area, I was already sitting between Preet and Maha. He sat across the table after giving uncle a quick hug. Flashing a smile at everyone, his eyes stopped at me and I awkwardly lowered my gaze, scared that someone might catch us.
Aunty passed the rice bowl to me and I reluctantly took a spoonful. Everyone was so nice and easy going yet, I was so nervous about sitting between my would be in laws and having dinner with them. Everything seems to be changing. For instance, Preet isn't just a friend anymore.
Just as I swallowed a bite, something snaked up my foot. I pulled back my leg out of shock and my hands landed on my plate. It moved, causing my spoon to fall down.
"All ok?" Shehry asked and I quietly nodded. What was that? They don't have snakes here, do they?
"S-sorry," I stuttered before pulling my chair back and picking up the spoon. I kept it aside and pulled it a new one from the stand.
I felt a hand on mine and I turned to look at Preet. She smiled at me assuring, rubbing my arm gently. "Don't be nervous," she whispered and I forced a smile back. She knows me too well.
I turned to my plate again and took a bite. Suddenly I felt like I was being watched. My eyes raised only to find Shehry's brown ones staring right back at me. I almost scream as I felt something touching my other foot. I chocked on whatever that was in my mouth when Shehry winked, making a kissy face.
It was him!
"Woah," I heard Maha gasp silently and Shehry instantly looked away. I closed my eyes while this little teenager watched me struggle for air through her big eyes.
I just hope that she didn't see anything and if she did, she doesn't mention it to her parents. At least not now.
Aunty instantly got behind me and rubbed my back while I coughed, struggling to get the food, that might have gone down the wrong pipe, out. Once I was fine, I smiled at Aunty and she caressed my hair before taking her seat. She is such a sweetheart.
My eyes raised to look at Shehry and a hot sensation creeped up to my cheeks. He was smirking, staring right back at me. A gasp escaped from my lips when he winked at me again, rubbing his toes against my right foot's toes. I pulled away again but, he stretched his leg out and touched my toe. I awkwardly kept moving back while he silently ate, teasing me at the same time.
I looked around the table and everyone ate silently. I was the only one restless here and Shehry was clearly enjoying that. He needed to learn his lesson! I sucked in a deep breath and jerked my foot forward, jabbing his leg with my sandal's heel.
"Oww!" He howled, instantly pulling back and everyone turned to him. I bit my lips to stop myself from laughing while he secretly scowled at me.
"Serves you right," I mouthed before he turned to Aunty, who was quite worried now.
"Jeeb kat gayi," his lie made me snicker as his hand raised to hold his cheek.
"You want some juice," I asked innocently yet teasingly and he silently glared at me, "it'll make you feel better."
I poured a glass for him anyway and smiled as I offered it to him. He knew I was dying to stick my tongue out at him.
"Oho!" Preet whispered in my ear, making me realise that there were others present in the room. I looked at her and found her smirking at me.
Suddenly All the pair of eyes were boring into me with annoying smirks playing on everyone's lips. My face felt freakishly hot and I knew everyone realised that I was blushing.
"Chalo bas tang mat karo," Aunty scolded Preet and Hussain. They both raised their hands in the air, chuckling.
Shehry grinned shyly at his parents but I could just see his eyes laughing at me, telling me that the point goes to him.
Just great!
