~~~PREET's POV~~~
"Tell him to stay away," Asmaara groaned and I laughed at her annoyed face, "yeah, this is exactly how he was laughing!"
"It's been days now, come on!" I said, grinning and briefly glanced at Shehry, who sat on the same couch as me.
"Yeah but, he needs to understand when someone does something for you, you are supposed to appreciate it," she huffed, kneading, the dough, "waise bhi, I don't know what's up with mama. This new aap-aap thing."
"Then don't do it," I shrugged and she looked me. Her hair fell out of her clip so she pushed them away with the back of her hand, leaving a flour stain on her forehead.
"And the other option is cooking but, I love him too much to cook for him," she sighed. I couldn't help but snicker and she shot me a glare.
"Acha, clean your forehead first. There is flour everywhere," I told her. Shehry instantly scooted closer to me to have a look and I struggled to push him away, keeping a smile on.
"All thanks to this new weird cooking teacher," her voice grabbed my attention again, "she wants me to cook whatever I know. I just hope she doesn't die after eating this."
"Make biriyaani then," I suggested and she shook her head. "That's our thing. I am not making that without you."
I chuckled, remembering the good old days, and then asked what she was making. She smiled and showed me the ingredients.
"Arey Wah! Jisse gussa hai, usi ki favourite dish!" I smirked at her and then looked at Shehry, "aloo ke paranthe!"
"So, I am just temporary angry! Ek do baar aur call karega toh utha loongi," she shrugged and Shehry instantly snatched my laptop.
"Toh abhi kar Lo. How long are you going to avoid my calls for, come on!" He pouted at the screen. Asmaara gasped before the screen went blank.
He looked up at me with a frown plastered on his forehead and I face palmed myself.
~~~ASMAARA's POV~~~
He was there all the time! He must have heard me ranting and seen me looking like a ghost. Preet, you are such a traitor!
I was lost deep in my thoughts when I heard baba calling me. Quickly washing my hands, I took off the apron and went outside. He stared at me for a few seconds and I rolled my eyes. Yeah, go on, laugh.
Instead, he turned to the file kept in front of him. I went over and sat down beside him.
"I need you to go to New York for me and submit this file," he spoke, "I wanted to go myself but, I can't leave your mother alone here. She is a careless woman and I know she won't look after herself."
I silently nodded at him with a smile. Ageing is taking a toll on his work. In a good way. Now that he is slowing down, he is starting to care more about what really matters. I wish he would have changed a few years ago. I would have loved to spend some time with my father; This family man side of his'.
"And what's cooking?" He asked all of a sudden and I gulped. "I was trying paranthas but, I guess it's not going that well."
"Practice makes man perfect," he winked at me with a smile, "keep trying!"
I flashed him a smile and went back inside the kitchen. Ek na ek din toh aa hi jayeinge banane.
~~~SHEHRY's POV~~~
I sighed as Preet rolled her eyes and got up from the couch. "Impatient man!" She sneered at me and I released a loud groan.
"Call her. She said she is just temporary angry," Preet reminded me and I nodded, rubbing my palms against my cheeks. Itne nakhre.
I pulled out my phone and dialled her number. It rang and she answered it in first ring.
"Red pepper or black?" She asked the moment she pick up. She is asking me for ingredients?
"Red," I replied casually and earned a gasp. "Shehry?"
Great, she didn't know she was answering my call until now.
When she didn't disconnect, I asked, "watcha makin'?"
"You don't want to know," she sighed and I chuckled. "But I want to help."
"What? How?"
"How about Skype?" I asked and she ended the call. I went back to my room.
After a long wait, she appeared on my laptop's screen this time. Her hair were all pinned up and there was no flour on her face. Even her clothes were different. She was grooming herself! Why? It's just me.
"Okay, you can stop staring now," her voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I awkwardly cleared my throat. "So what's up?"
"Paranthas, and so far I have boiled potatoes and ruined all the flour," she dipped her hand in it and raised it in the air. It's dripped like a paper-mache paste.
I gulped, and sighed.
"Ok, now do as I say," I told her and she nodded. It took her a while but, finally the dough was ready.
She then moved on to the green chillies and onions. I watched her while she concentrated on them. Suddenly she turned to me and frowned, "can you stop star- ouch!"
I gasped as she turned to her hand again and disappeared from the screen. "Asmaara?" I called her name.
"Yaheen hoon," she said as I heard water running in the background. Moments later, she appeared again and I sighed. "What happened?"
"N-nothing," she shrugged, throwing that knife in the wash.
"Asmaara?"
"It's just a small cut, I am fine," she shrugged, looking at me and I asked to have a look at it. That. Was. Not. A. Small. Cut!
"Get the first aid box," I basically ordered her and she rolled her eyes at me. "Shehry I am-"
"Now," I added and she sighed before leaving. Minutes later, she was back with a band aid on her finger.
"Happy?" She asked, showing me her finger, and I nodded. "Very."
Giving me a short grin, she picked up another knife and began chopping the onion. "Does it hurt?" I asked out of nowhere and she looked up at me again. Disappearing from the screen, she appeared again, dragging a kitchen stool with her.
She sat in front of me and kept her elbow on the kitchen counter. I kept the laptop on my bed and lied beside it.
"Time's so slow. I am missing you," she sighed and I chuckled, "I want us to be married already."
"Yeah, so you can finally kiss me," I smirked. She gasped, backing off, "sharam Karo!"
"Arrey it's going to be halal! Kya sharam?" I laughed and she shook her head. A darker shade of red popped up on her cheeks and I laughed even more.
"You are distracting me," she suddenly said and brought her hand forward. Before I could even blink, the screen went blank again.
"It's going to be halal," I heard my own words echoing in the room and I frowned, "sharam karo!"
I recognised that voice!
"Waqas!" I yelled when I saw his shadow by the door and ran after him. He ran outside and I kept yelling his name. He just wouldn't stop repeating those lines.
"It's all in my phone!" He laughed devilishly, "give me your car keys if you want it deleted!"
I stopped running and so did he, "why my car keys? Where is you mast mast tang?"
"My car ran out of battery because Nosh thought it's ok to just park it in the garage and forget about it," he sighed, "now I need to charge it."
"Cuz He needs to take someone out on a date," Preet announced. She sat on the couch with Maha, helping her with her homework.
"It's no date ok, Nosh just wants me to take that newbie out for shopping," he groaned and I faked a cough.
"But you should always keep your options open," Preet smirked, "besides, she is quite nice. I like her."
"There are no options here, it's either Malvika or no one... You know what, I'll just get a cab," he announced quite rudely and walked out of the house.
I looked at Preet, who was already staring at me. She gave me a sad face and I sighed, "don't worry. We will sort it out soon."
~~~WAQAS' POV~~~
I walked out of the house and down the driveway. Blood shooting through my eyes. God! That girl is just Nosh's new neighbour and that's it!
Quickly calling for a cab, I walked down the road and waited for it. My mind kept going back to the same person; Malvika. How could she be so selfish? She promised she won't run away but, that exactly what she is doing. No phone calls, no chat replies, no updates whatsoever. She ran away.
She told me, this will help me move on. But it had only just made me fall even more. I miss her being jealous, her scowls, hugs, our fights, play time with Manik, versing him in video games, having him over at my place. I miss them.
I guess she just wants me to pay for what happened with Manik because of me. It was my mistake that I appointed that careless driver who took away so many lives, including his own. I can't thank Allah enough that Manik is fine. Or else I wouldn't have been able to forgive myself.
Wind slapped against my bare forearms and I was brought back to the reality. A white car stopped in front of me. I ducked down and found the same driver in it who had dropped me off here five minutes ago. Quickly sitting inside, I greeted him and we headed back home. Once the car stopped on front of my house, I got off and walked to the house on my right instead.
Seconds after I pressed the bell, Roop opened the door. All dressed up in a green kurti and denim. She had silver bangles in one hand and her brown handbag pulled up to her shoulder. Her hair were left loose and reached her hips. Straight and brown.
"Hi!" She chirped, flashing a hundred watt smile. I nodded, shoving my hands in my jean's pocket, "hey."
We stared at each other before she awkwardly nodded and stepped aside, "you want tea before we leave?"
I blinked, "yeah.. Uhh.. No, the cab is waiting."
She looked past me and frowned, "ohh. All right."
I stepped backwards and she followed me after locking the main door.
"Have fun you two!" Nosh yelled from our first floor's window and I turned around to scowl at her. Why can't she take Roop for shopping? Ugh!
To my surprise, Roop grinned and yelled back, "we sure will!"
Uhh... I would rather sleep.
~~~HUSSAIN's POV~~~
"No means no!" I stated again and Preet groaned beside. "Come on! It's only three days and you promised her weeks ago."
"Yeah well, weeks ago you didn't need a baby sitter," I rolled my eyes. She sighed, "I'll have ami with me, there is Maha and Shehry too. Now come on."
"Exactly! Tell Soha to take Shehry instead of me," I crossed my arms in front of my chest and sat back, "I am not leaving you what so ever."
"Hussain," she huffed but, I didn't care.
No way I am going for a photoshoot when I should be here, looking after Preet. I can't risk leaving her alone. Not anymore. I need to make sure she takes lots of rest and has someone to talk to all the time. I want to be here and make sure that both of them are doing fine.
"Preet, your yoga class is in an hour so get ready," I told her, "and I am not going."
"Ugh! Fine!" Soha sighed and got up from the couch, "I'll try and convince Shehry."
"Good," I smiled, rolling my eyes.
"But he is the groom, he needs to be here," she added.
"He will have four days after the shoot to get the fitting and all checked so I am sure he will survive," I said. Both the ladies groaned and I smiled.
Call me stubborn but I am not going.
~~~ATIF's POV~~~
"Aisha? Aisha!"
The moment I entered the house after my morning jog, loud cries filled the air around me. I could hear them coming from Rishab's room and Aisha was not with him. Usually she would run around him all the time and now when he is crying, she was not there to see what's wrong.
I neared my bedroom but, couldn't see Aisha. I could hear the water running in the bathroom. Looking at the two doors, I debated inside my head if I should call Aisha or go to Rishab myself. Finally giving up, I entered Rishab's room and he stretched his arms out. He sat on the ground, between a cluster of toys and my eyes widened as they fell on his bleeding knee. He must have fallen and injured himself.
Going closer, I scooped him in my arms and walked out of his room. Finding the first aid box, I made him sit on my lap and applied antiseptic cream on his knee. He screamed as the cream came in contact with his skin and I cringed my nose. That must hurt.
Rishab hid his face in my chest and I reluctantly wrapped my arm around him. The moment he held my hand and pulled it closer, my heart skipped a beat. His cries died down as he sniffed against my tshirt.
"What happened?" I heard Aisha's voice and looked up to see her standing by the doorframe. She came closer and gasped. Just as she bent down to take Rishab, he clutched on to my tshirt as tightly as he could. He felt safe in my embrace.
I could feel Aisha's eyes on me and I asked her to get something to eat for Rishab just to avoid her eyes. I ran a hand through Rishab's hair and got up with him in my arms. Walking back to my room, I sat on the bed but, Rishab didn't let go.
Aisha returned with a bottle of milk and I looked at her. As much as she tried taking Rishab in her arms, he refused to let go of me and I gave up in the end.
Don't know for how long I sat in that position while Rishab peacefully slept against my chest.
