A strangely familiar reflection in the window's glass, caught my attention and I gasped. Before I could push the person away, two large hands came from the either side of me, sliding across my face. I tried screaming but, my voice died as those hands pressed tighter against my mouth, tearing the oxygen away from me completely.
"Pehle bolo chillao gi nahi?" He asked and I groaned under his palm. From the space between my parted lips, I jabbed my teeth in his thick Palm, as harshly as I could.
"Aaahhh! Kaat liya!" I heard the cry and rolled my eyes. I wanted to throw my chappal at this person.
My elbow stabbed his chest and he stumbled backwards. I spun around to whack his head with my hand bag but, thanks to my height, I was only able to reach up to his shoulder.
"Mamma!" He cried, hiding his head, and I whacked his shoulder again. "What the hell Dr Bilal?!"
"What did I do?" He asked, staring at his palm where I had bit him, "I just came to wish you!"
"Wish me like this?! Heart fail ho jata mera!" I yelled back between loud and shallow breaths.
"Not my fault you didn't see me the whole time!" He groaned, "Aur Kitni baatien karti ho tum larkiyaan! Bak bak bak bak!"
"Aap meri baatien sun rahe the?" I asked him and he shook his head. "Sorry."
There was an awkward silence for a few seconds before he broke it, "and happy birthday."
I gasped, "you knew?"
"Yeah, I was there when your dad ordered your new car," he said, "I called your house and office number but, you weren't available. Cellphone number toh aaj tak tumne diya hi nahi."
Milega bhi nahi.
"Oh! Acha come inside!" I insisted but he shook is head, refusing the offer. "Phir kabhi aaunga jab uncle aur aunty se bhi mil saku."
"Umm ok," I smiled and he walked away.
Pata nahi kya cheez hai yeh? Na theek se dost bana sakti hoon aur na hi khushi khushi iska gala daba sakti hoon. Ugh!
I rolled my eyes at my own thoughts and pulled my handbag up to my shoulder as I walked inside my house. Dark and silent like always. All the curtains were drawn but, the main door still provided enough light for me to walk up to the main switch. I flicked it on and off a couple of times but, it didn't work for some reason. It's not like we missed out on paying the bill or anything.
My heart pounded against my rib when I heard the faint sound of foot steps echoing in the empty room.
"W-who is it?" I called out and earned no reply. Suddenly the main door closed, making a loud banging sound. I flinched at the sudden loss of light. My throat felt dry as I tried thinking about other possible ways of running but, my mind felt numb. What if it's a murderer? What if it's-
"Happy Birthday to you," a torturously bright light fell upon me as someone started singing in the dark. "Happy birthday to As...Maa...Ra, happy birthday to you!"
My eyes popped out of their sockets and heart almost fell out of my mouth. I don't know if it was still due to the panic attack that I just had or the face in front of me. I blinked at the figure while he warmly smile back at me.
"Sh.. Shehry?" I chocked out. It came out more like a question.
He can't be here. I am definitely dreaming. God! This man is driving me crazy. Ab toh andhere main bhi dikhta hai.
I closed my eyes, strongly hoping for him to still be there when I open them. I parted my eyelids again and flinched, seeing his face all zoomed in. He was grinning at me now and stood hardly two feet away.
"Hun bas ghoor di raheen," he commented in his world famous dolly Aunty accent. I giggled a little before killing the distance between us.
I wrapped my arms around his waist and hugged him as tightly as I could. His heavenly scent filled my nostrils and I closed my eyes. Yes, he was actually here! On. My. Birthday!
I felt his arms around my shoulders for a brief second before he whispered, "apne in laws ke saamne hi shuru ho gayi?"
My eyes sprung open at instant and I pulled away hesitantly, "aur kaun kaun aaya hai?!"
The chandelier, above us, magically came back to life and I gasped at my sight. My parents and Shehry's parents stood by staircase with a cake in their hands. Shehry's warm finger touched my chin and I realised that my mouth was open wide.
"Happy birthday my angel!" Mama said as she came forward to hug me.
We pulled away and Aunty pulled me in for a hug. "Saalgira mubarak ho," uncle patted my head gently and I smiled at him.
"Jitna suna tha usse kahi zada pyaari hai aapki beti," Aunty said to mama and I lowered my eyes, shyly.
"Aap sab yahaan?" I asked, dumbfounded, "mama baba... You were in-"
"Australia? You think so?" Mama winked at me and baba chuckled.
I desperately wanted someone to pinch me as it all felt like a dream. Like I might have slept in my cabin or in my car. Ya shayad Gemma ke saamne?
"Come on let's cut the cake!" Baba announced as he carried it to the coffee table.
"But, how about you freshen up first?" Mom asked me and I went to my room.
As I entered, I closed the door behind me, grinning like an idiot. Oh God! Everything felt so negative a minute ago and now my day has become one of the bests so far. Shehry is here and that too WITH HIS PARENTS! Now our parents will finally talk about ur wedding. What else can I ask for?
Turning around, I went over to my cupboard and opened it to pull out a fresh outfit. However, It didn't feel like it belonged to me because I couldn't recognise even a single dress that was hung in there. I frowned before my eyes fell on a white paper, stuck to the door. I pulled it out and opened it.
To be honest, none of these dresses are worth being in here. They are the prettiest ones I could find although, none of them can beat the beauty of YOUR heart. Happy Birthday Beautiful<3
I read the note again and looked up at all the clothes hanging in front of me. He had the time to give my wardrobe a make over. How long has he been here for?
I went through all of the dresses and counted thirty two in total. He bought me thirty two new dresses? I struggle between a purple dress and a pink dress, finally deciding on the pink one. The neckline, long net sleeves, thick border along the bottom and the sequins on the dupatta were light golden colour. It was just simply stunning.
After washing my tired face, I slipped into the dress and spun around in circles. The dress' fabric was so light that it danced with every step I took. Deciding that I had wasted enough time already, I moved on to my dressing table. I opened the first drawer, where all my makeup products are usually kept, and found absolutely nothing in there. Opening the second drawer, all I found was another note.
No make up please because I care about all the angels that live somewhere in the sky. Khabar mili hai tumse jalne lageen hein woh.
I chuckled, staring at my reflection in the mirror and read further.
Cheesy much? But, fact it is! Kabhi khud ko meri nazar se dekh kar toh dekho....<3
A smile made its way to my lips and I kept the note down. I got off the chair and took a step back to see myself properly in the mirror. After combing my hair, I wore my heels to go with dress and draped my dupatta on my left shoulder.
"Mah-Shah-Allah!" Shaista Aunty smiled at me when I entered the lounge, making me blush.
All the heads turned my direction and it felt like I had just came home with my final year's results. All the eyes were on me but, mine were on his gorgeously dark ones. Shehry joined his hands together in front of his chest and curved his fingers, making a heart shape. I found it hard not to blush and hated the fact that I was definitely resembling a tomato. My cheeks' temperature made it pretty clear to me.
"Come let's cut the cake," Aunty smiled as she held my hand and led me to the centre.
I blew the candles and they sang happy birthday for me. After cutting the cake, I offered it to baba first. He gave me a hug and I hugged him tighter. Here he was planing all this, and I thought he didn't care. Next was mama; she didn't take a bite but, fed all of that to me. It was nice and creamy chocolate but, I felt sick of cakes after basically eating just cake for lunch today. I took another slice out and fed Asif uncle and then Shaista Aunty. Aunty engulfed me into a soft hug and I stole a glance at Shehry, who stood behind her with a pout on his face.
"Mine?" He mouthed and I stuck my tongue out at him.
"Stay bless and stay happy," she whispered and I smiled on her shoulder. Shehry mirrored that smile.
Aunty pulled away, "now it's time for your gift. Asif, di jiyein." I frowned as she took a box from uncle's hand and pulled out two gold bangles from it.
"No Aunty iski kya-"
"Chup!" She made me shut up and then chuckled, "tumhe nahi de rahi hoon. Yeh meri bari bahu ke liye hein."
Bahu. My mind only caught hold of that one word. Her bahu. That means they have already talked about our rishta? Omg! Mujhe bina pata chale kitna kuch ho gaya! I couldn't help but, grin at that!
I gawked at the two thick gold bands embedded with tiny diamonds as she took my wrists, one by one, and slipped those bangles on. Funny how they fitted so perfectly.
"Like them?" She asked, caressing my cheek. "Love them," I blinked the moist of joy away from my eyes.
"Aur aap kuch nahi denge?" Asif uncle asked baba and his lips twitched upwards. "I have already."
Baba turned to me. "you liked your new car?" He asked and I bit my tongue. Maine toh dekhi bhi nahi.
"Woh...."
"Uhh I know you just too well," he shook is head, looking somewhat disappointed. I felt so bad all of a sudden. "Here, go on a ride you two while we discuss your wedding dates!" He threw a key ring at me and I was surprisingly able to catch it.
I walked around the table and hugged him again. He chuckled and pulled away quickly, "ab jao bhi!"
Fiddling with my fingers, I looked over at Shehry. He was grinning at me. I smiled, well aware of everyone around us.
"Come on you two, we need space!" Aunty pushed Shehry away from the couch and he stumbled sideways.
"Thanks uncle," he said so shyly like woh khud dulhan ho. Ayeee! How seedha saadha.
"You know your limits, young man!" Dad stated and Shehry smiled, reassuring him.
He walked around and came up to me. "Chalein?" He asked and I nodded. He stepped away and gestured me to walk first. I heard all four of the elders cooing behind us while we awkwardly left the house.
This keychain was a little different from the one in the morning. This was a completely different set like baba already knew I'll refuse to keep those keys first. The garage remote was attached to it too along with the house keys. I went over to open the garage and it revealed the black and red beauty. It was a Goddamn racing car!
I felt Shehry's warm fingers snaking around my arm and reaching down to my wrist. He gently held my hand and I smiled at the touch.
"Mujhe kyun nahi khilaya?" He whispered near my ear. I turned to look at the pout that played on his lips. "Tumhaare Parents ke saamne kaise khilati?"
"Really? You can hug me in front of them but, you can't feed me cake?" He asked and I could see how hard he tried to hide that smirk.
"I wouldn't have if I knew that they were there," I defended myself and he stopped walking.
I turned to face him with a frown on my face. He smirked at me as he took a step forward. I took one back but, this time he took two forward. I failed to step away because my Back slapped against the garage's concrete wall. His right hand came and rested on the wall on my left while his left hand touched my forehead. His dark eyes stared into mine as his fingers moved and tucked my hair behind my ear. I shivered at the contact and gulped the nervousness down.
"Yahaan toh koi nahi hai, ab khila do?" he whispered and I raised an eyebrow. "Yahaan cake kahaan se lau?"
"We can swap that for something else?" He smirked and I found it hard to breath. He inched closer and his body heat burnt me.
"Like what?" I chocked out, instantly regretting it. He leaned closer and my mind alarmed. I pushed Shehry away instantly, "CCTV cameras!"
He stepped away and pulled the keys out of my hand, "then let's do something about it."
Shehry opened the passenger side's door for me and I sat inside without asking any questions. After closing the door, he went to the driver's seat and buckled his seatbelt. I gawked at the perfection of This car's interior. Black leather seats, a high tech music system and what not.
"Let's go?" Shehry asked and I smiled. "Let's go!"
We sped out of the drive way and on to the road. While Shehry's phone gave us directions, I had no clue where we were going. But then again, who cares as long as he is there with me?
~~~SHEHRY's POV~~~
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming.. I was missing you so much!" Asmaara complained and I chuckled.
"Bata deta toh surprise kaise hota?" I asked, glancing at her, " aur waise bhi, We kept you pretty busy today. Jess, Gemma and then Bilal. Bechara! He had to deliver the cake for me. I think we entertained enough throughout the day and you didn't miss me at all! Liar!"
"What? Of course I did!" She pressed on it, punching my shoulder, "I seriously thought you forgot!"
"Haye aisa socha bhi kaise?" I asked dramatically and she huffed.
Slipping my hand under her's, I filled the gaps between her fingers with mine, wrapping them around her hand. It felt so good to be holding those delicate hands again. Those fingers felt just perfect between mine.
I brought her hand closer to my face and kissed the back of it. I expected her to blush but, she pulled our hands away from me and did the exact same thing as I did. She took my hand closer to her face and kissed the back of it. Her hands stayed there for three seconds or so and my heart jumped about a million times at least.
She pulled away and looked at me, "thanks for being here."
"Thanks someone who isn't your to-be-husband," I said and she grinned, keeping my hand in her lap.
We reached our destination in about twenty minutes and I parked the car. Getting out of my seat, I went over to Asmaara's side. However, she had already opened her door so, I lent her my hand and pulled her out. The dress fell to her knees and she made it look a million times better that what it looked on the mannequin. Just made for her.
"What is this place?" She asked, looking at the fairy lights that were hung above us.
"It's your city and you are asking me?" I raised my eyebrow and she looked at me. "I have never been to this place."
"Trust me, you have!" I chuckled and then winked at her, "it's just a little different tonight. All thanks to me!"
"You decorated this place? Council se permission Li?" She asked, and I chuckled at her.
"Full permission. Council se bhi aur," I said as I slipped my arm around her waist, "uncle se bhi."
"Bare shareef ho!" She giggled and I joined in. "Bachpan se!" I replied, gently touching my forehead on her's.
We walked along the wooden floor and approached a tree, under which our table was placed. Lanterns hung on its branches and around our seats to provide us enough light. The open sky and lake close by, caused light breeze to blow past us, swaying the White table cloth and some left over leaves on the tree's branches.
A waiter, who stood by our table, stepped away as I pulled the chair out for Asmaara. She sat down and I went over to my side. We were in the backyard of a restaurant and after a lot of request, they had agreed to serve us here because I wanted something romantic and magical for tonight. Away from everyone. Just the two of us. Something unique and memorable.
"Sir, give us a call when you need anything and I'll stop by in a few to collect your order. Have a nice evening," the waiter quickly said and went away, obviously trying to give us space.
Soft music began playing in the background and I realised that two speakers were fixed on the tree. Now, that was something I hadn't thought about. Thanks to whoever did that.
"This place is beautiful!" Asmaara whispered and I grinned at her, "it's so magical! You planned all this?"
Her eyes again travelled to the fairy lights above us and I gawked at her. She looked so cute.
"Yup!" I nodded and she looked down at me.
"Shehry?" She called my name and I leaned forward to take her hand in mine. "Ji Shehry ki jaan?" I asked, drawing circles at the back of her hand.
Asmaara instantly pressed her lips together but, a quick laugh still managed to escape, "that's so cheesy."
I kept my hand on my heart and sighed dramatically, "sab tumhari wajah se hai."
"I love you," she suddenly said as her grip around my hand grew tighter, "you are this one beautiful dream that I have always longed for."
I got up from my chair and went around the table. I made her stand up and looked straight into her eyes, "it's not a dream. Yeh hamaari sachai hai.. Meri aur tumhaari."
"This is our reality, our canvas that we have to paint together," I added, smiling at her. She stared at me with her eyes turning shimmery again.
I raised my hands and cupped her cheeks. Touching her waterlines with my thumbs, I wiped those tears before they could even fall. "Yeh toh bas shuruwat hai. Saath dogi mera?" I asked.
"Har kadam par," she whispered back and I instantly pulled her into a hug.
"I love you!" I said truthfully and she grinned. "Good to know!" I chuckle at that.
"Ahh! You have any idea how good it feels to be able to hug you after so many weeks?" I asked and she nodded over my shoulder.
"Shehry?" She called my name again, "I am sorry for pushing you away every time. I never realised who I was missing out on. You are a true blessing!"
I smiled upon hearing those words and pulled away.
"Just let me stay for ever now and I'll try and forgive you sometimes soon," I winked at her and she grinned. "Ab toh leech ki tarhaan chippak gayi hoon. Chaho ge tab bhi nahi chorne wali."
"Isi baat Pe!" I said as I stepped away and went on my knees. I pulled out a ring from my pocket and looked up at her. She did propose to me but, it still had to be done. I still owed her a ring.
"Marry me?"
~~~ASMAARA's POV~~~
That was another one of my emotional moments. Every time he showers me with so much love, I feel pathetic about my acts in the past. I wonder how someone can be so patient?
Suddenly Shehry went on his knees and pulled out a ring. My eyes widened at the sliver band with a butterfly in the middle. The diamonds on it sparkled under the moon light.
"Marry me?" Shehry asked and I instantly lost my voice. It's all been fixed and he is still doing all this?
"I..." I trailed off as I swallowed the dryness in my throat, "I will!"
He grinned and instantly slipped the ring on my right hand's ring finger, "let's save the other one for our official engagement."
I pulled my hand closer to my face and gawked at the masterpiece. Such a sleek and pretty design. The butterfly fascinated me the most.
"Shehry yeh toh..." I looked up at him.
"A butterfly for my butterfly. Some wings for you to fly," he whispered, "ek choti si asmaara for my Asmaara to remind her how beautiful she is."
"You know what my name means!" My eyes widened as I grinned idiotically. Best part; he mirrored it.
"Naam main kya rakha hai? Main toh tumhein bhi bohot ache se jaanta hoon," he smiled and I raised an eyebrow.
"Acha? Toh kya jaante ho mere baare main?" I asked teasingly and his smile turned into a smirk.
Oh God!
"Bata doon?" He asked, taking a step forward, and I shook my head. "Nahi. Rehne do."
"Ab sun bhi Lo," he insisted, taking another step towards me. "Zabardasti hai? I am not interested."
Suddenly he leaned closer and wrapped his arm around my waist. My eyes widened as he jerked me towards him and my hands instantly landed on his chest to maintain a distance.
"Mujhe pata hai Ki...." He whispered, his minty fresh breath fanning my face.
My brain instantly started recalling on the embarrassing situations I have ever been in, in case Preet had decided to spill the beans. Every damn memory, of stupid things I have ever done, came flashing in front of my eyes and I gulped the embarrassment down my throat.
It's ok, Asmaar, shadi hone wali hai teri Shehry se. So what if he is aware of a couple of embarrassing situations that you have been through. My mind comforted me but, my heart pounded against my rib cage, scared of all the uninvited teasing that was going to come in my way.
Suddenly Shehry burst out laughing and stepped away. He jumped, running a hand through his hair while I glared at him. What so funny?
"Look at your face!" He said, holding his stomach, "looks like your going to burst into tears any second."
I still didn't find anything funny but, before I could say anything, the waiter came back.
"Sir, would you like to place your order?" He asked Shehry, who was still laughing.
We quickly scanned the menu and placed our order. The waiter disappears again and Shehry turned to me. I narrowed my eyes at him before looking away.
"Paa Ji, kabhi toh Hans bhi diya karo!" He tugged on to my shoulder and I couldn't help but, grin.
"Come on, let's cut the cake," Shehry announced, moving towards the table again. More cakes?
He took the lid off from the centre of the table, revealing a gorgeous white and red heart shaped cake. It had three roses made out of icing on the top and plastic hearts stuck along the side for decoration. To My Love, I read the writing and smiled.
"Happy birthday," Shehry whispered next to me and lit the candles, using a lighter, "you spent twenty seven years without me, can I have the rest seventy three?"
"Let's make that wish together?" I asked and he nodded. Together, we blew the candles and then he clapped while I cut the cake.
I took a large slice out and offered it to him. Grinning, he took a bite and took the cake from my hands. He brought it closer to my face and I nibbled on the edge.
Shehry frowned at that, "what happened? You don't like this flavour?"
I shook my head, "I love it. But, I have eaten so much cake today. I just don't feel like eating it right now."
"So, who says you have to eat it?" Shehry smirked and before I knew, he smudged the frosting on my left cheek. I parted my lips to stop him, but my voice chose to ditch me.
His fingers traces along my chin and on to my right cheek while I stood there, lost under his touch. My skin burnt as his fingers traced along it. He pinched my nose and I gasped, realising what had just happened.
"Oh what! How am I going to clean it now?" I raised my hand to my face and brought it in front of me. White frosting was all over my fingers.
"Here, let me help you," Shehry chuckled as he leaned closer.
His face kept zooming in until I started feeling his warm breath fanning my ear. My heart raced at a hundred mile per hour speed and my breathing had become quite shallow and fast now.
"Shehry!" I squealed, pushing him away. This is what he meant by helping?
"What?" He looked down at me. His eyes smirking at me. "Let me help," he said again before leaning closer and I tilted my head away.
"No, I'll use a napkin," I said nervously and he threw a chuckle at me. "That's what I was reaching out for!"
My head turned instantly and I realised that he was reaching out for the napkin kept on my side. Aur mujhe laga that he.... I blew air out of my mouth to control my embarrassing blush.
He picked up a napkin from the table and brought his hand closer. I watched him as he wiped the frosting away, very carefully as if he was scared that the paper napkin might end up hurting me. Once he was done, he kept the napkin away and looked it me again.
"You look gorgeous tonight," he whispered and I am sure I blushed.
"You know why I hid all your makeup?" He asked, his voice turned deeper, "because I like this natural pink shade on you."
He was already making it hard for me to breath and now the compliment.
His eyes roamed around my face as if he was examining my each and every feature until they stopped. They stopped at my lips. He looked up in my eyes as his expressions grew darker and his question left me stunned.
"Can I ... Can I kiss you?"
