Impossibilities [Mikashi] [*S*]

A/N: So, I'll tell you straight up. This is a huge spoiler for Sightless, but I really wanted to write it. As such, feel free to stop right here. It reveals a plot-point before the plot-point is revealed, which should be within the first ten chapters, although I'm not quite sure which number just yet. Although if you guys are familiar with this sort of thing, you'll probably guess it before I reveal it. Anyways, point is, this spoils that plot-point which is a Mikashi plot-point. So if you don't like spoilers, quit here. I'm going to add some spaces after this because let's face it, if you see the first words, you're gonna be spoiled no matter what.

It takes place about a month, month and a half before the beginning of Sightless.

"You're pregnant."

Her crimson hair falling about her face in short, frizzy strands, she shot her friend an annoyed glare. Not bothering to respond to the comment, she shifted backwards in the chair, waiting for the nausea to pass. With a sigh, her friend slowly dropped into the seat across from her.

"Don't do the silent thing, you're not allowed to do the silent thing. I'm not supposed to get stressed out right now. You doing the silent thing? That would stress me out. So... don't do the silent thing."

Slight amusement flickering through her, she offered a single, raised brow as if to question what exactly the silent thing was.

"You know, the thing where you don't talk at all instead of just giving a sarcastic comment in return for what you consider a stupid idea. Which- is not stupid by the way. You're pregnant."

She stiffened, shooting the girl a harsher glare.

"If you keep saying that, someone might hear you," she snapped. "And I'm not pregnant, you are. Quit trying to push it off on me, too."

The brunette rolled her eyes, shifting in the seat as if to make herself more comfortable. Her amber eyes flickered down to her stomach for a moment, her hand brushing over the top of her rather enlarged bump. A second later her eyes flickered back to the woman before her as she offered a faint shrug. A small gasp left her lips before she spoke, her eyes switching back to her stomach with a half-hearted disapproving expression.

"What have I said about kicking me while I'm talking to people?" she scolded. "That hurt, you know. Just because I touched you..."

"Hikari-chan, the baby isn't going to listen," Miki replied, amusement obviously taking place of her previous annoyance. "It's a baby."

"It has to learn sooner or later," Hikari retorted. "So, I'm not giving up."

"I heard Hiso-nii found you two a place," Miki mused. "He finally came to his senses."

Hikari nodded eagerly, her face lighting up.

"He did! It's wonderful, Miki-chan. There are two rooms, one for us, and one for the nursery! We've got permission from the landlord to paint it, so I can't wait to get to that. My mother informed me when she dropped by to check the place out that I was nesting, apparently there is something amusing about me already having the placing of the furniture picked out and the clothes from the baby shower stored in the closet. I think it's just being prepared."

"It's nesting."

"It's no-" Hikari protested, then cut herself off with a huff. "Okay, maybe it is. There's nothing wrong with a woman in her last trimester nesting. Nothing at all."

Miki chuckled, taking in Hikari's indignant expression and how her hand was still curled protectively over her stomach.

"No, there's nothing wrong with it," she agreed.

"Besides," Hikari continued a second later. "I'm not the problem here. Your denial is the problem! You're tired-"

"I've been taking a lot of missions."

"You're sick-"

"Could be the missions atop of an unhealthy diet."

"You're eating more-"

"I work a lot, more food is healthy."

"And you-"

"Give me a moment, Hikari-chan," Miki broke in, pulling herself to her feet. "I need to use the bathroom. I'll be right back."

"That, there's that, too," Hikari snaped. "Stop being so stubborn!"

Refusing to respond, she simply made her way across the room and towards the bathroom. When she'd returned a short time later, Hikari was glowering in her direction, obviously having built up yet another lecture about Miki's behavior. The girl simply took her seat, a small sigh escaping her lips.

"You'll make a good mother," she muttered.

"You think?" she questioned happily. "No, wait, that's not the point here. The point here, is, that you need to get tested and you need to tell him!"

Miki shifted uncomfortably in her seat, muttering an uncharacteristic swear under her breath.

"There's no need."

"Why are you being so stubborn?" Hikari demanded. "Just check it out. If you're not pregnant, there's no need to be worried about it. If you are, isn't it better to know?"

"No."

Hikari slowly blinked, attempting to connect the response to any form of logic.

"What?"

"No," Miki repeated, her tone more childish than before. "I said, no."

"No...." Hikari echoed slowly. "No, it's not better to know? How is that even a possible answer, Miki-chan? You're going out constantly on dangerous missions, you're lucky that you haven't gotten injured recently. What'll happen if you keep going out on these and you get hit in the stomach? What if you get knocked down a bit hard and it jostles the baby? Do you really want to risk getting hurt?"

When Miki didn't respond, Hikari furrowed her brow, attempting to decipher her friend's thoughts. Miki had never been the easiest woman to understand and the fact that she tended to leave her personal thoughts on matters to herself didn't help. Hikari couldn't honestly think of a single time when Miki had shared something serious about herself with her.

"Miki, do you not want to have a baby?"

Miki's eyes dropped to the ground, her hands unconsciously tucking over her stomach. Her expression was impossible to read, her entire frame tense.

"It's not that..."

"Then get tested and tell him!"

"No," Miki retorted instantly.

"Why?" Hikari demanded. "Why won't you do it?"

"I can't... it's not that I don't want... I can't... how screwed up with a child of mine be?" Miki finally questioned, her words coming out in a harsh rush. "What could I give a kid? Biologically... my bloodline limit could kill the child if they get it. Being a mother... I can't... I couldn't... my team...."

Hikari's eyes widened, hesitation sweeping through her. She'd finally gotten something out of Miki that wasn't just a stubborn refusal, and now she had no clue how to handle it.

"...I've got to go."

Miki lurched to her feet, grabbing her bag from the floor beside the chair she'd been sitting in and slinging it over her shoulder.

"Lock up when you leave, I'm sure you know where I keep the extra key. Kakashi is probably wondering where I am, we had a dinner date planned."

"Miki-"

"Just... don't worry about it," the redhead interjected, her expression once again impossible to read. "I'm fine."

Hikari could only watch as Miki made her way to the door, not waiting to hear the brunette's response. Once outside, Miki paused, closing her eyes for a moment as she took in one, deep breath to calm the nauseous feeling sweeping through her.

"I'm fine," she repeated. "Just fine..."

A/N: There you go! Miki's thoughts when she first found out. x3 I might do another segment at another point, but I haven't yet decided how she might have told him eventually. Hope you enjoyed! I really wanted to write this!
