Neil came back and saw Avni was asleep. He held the medicines he had brought for her and walked up to her.

Neil, sat beside her and in a hushed voice - "Avni..wake up"

Avni stirred a little but did not wake up. Neil did not want to disturb her sleep, but she should have taken her medicines. He was religious about taking care of that.

Neil put his hand around her head and shook her a little. Avni woke up and saw it was him, she started getting up sleepily but Neil kept a finger on his lips. He pointed to the medicines.

Avni sighed, she was tired by now. She allowed Neil to prop her up using his hand and she sat supported by his hand on her back.

Neil then held a glass of water using his other hand and gave her all the medicines. Avni sleepily obeyed and swallowed the rotten meds.

Neil then made her lie down again. As her eyes were semi-closed sleepily, Neil closed them completely by waving his hand on her eyelid. He then covered her with a sheet and then took one last look at her. Then Neil quietly got up and left the room.

As the door closed, Avni opened her eyes.. and she looked at the place Neil had stood in. She missed him, she missed living in the same room as him. The days they spent in the studio apartment were one of the best, but now it was all over..Avni felt a tear escape her eyes, but still she felt nothing. From the inside her heart had become of stone. She knew what she wanted but she had to act against it. Against her heart.

Days passed and Avni got better, largely due to Neil's dedicated care. One day, it was clear that she could do her own work efficiently. It was also the day when the doctor came home and cut her stitches. He said she was doing just fine and applauded the way she had recovered so well and so soon. Avni knew who was to credit for her recovery but she kept quiet.

After the doctor had left, Neil went out of the house into the garden for sometime. He wanted to be alone..

Neil was standing in the garden facing the afternoon sun. He did not care how it burned his eyes. How it made his eyes water. For his eyes were not watering due to the sun..

Avni came out..

Neil  heard her coming and wiped his face with his sleeve. He turned to face Avni who had come right behind him..

He looked at her and then he broke down.

Avni - "Neil is all ok.. Why are you..", and then she stopped talking as she understood. The doctors verdict meant it was time for their separation. Neil did not need to take care of Avni anymore. Avni could have her divorce.

Neil looked up at her, with his eyes that had started watering again - "Avni..", his throat was stuck, "Avni.. can this not end here. I will not try to convince you.. Tumne kaha tha ki tum divorce chahti ho. Par Avni, you are my life now. Main kya karunga.. I am sorry. I should not pressurise you.. Avni you leave from here and I will be alright in some minutes.." (..you said you want a divorce. but you are my life now. what will i do..)

He said and turned the other way. He felt Avni's hand on his shoulder, patting it in a friendly way. And then he heard her walking towards the house. Had her heart turned to stone? Could nothing move her? Neil broke down there and sat on the grass with his head in his hands.

Avni saw the vision from the window inside the house and as she turned with her back to it. She was crying as well.
