Xavier's POV:
Five years later
I check my watch as I pace the house nervously. She's late from work; she's never late. I look at my phone again, contemplating whether or not I should call her, when the door opens, and the apartment is filled with her – her voice, her perfume, everything about her. I have to hold myself together to prevent myself from grinning like an idiot.
"Sorry that I'm late babe", she smiles as she places a peck on my lips. "Daniel and I were kept over time."
I bite my tongue slightly. I hate how Daniel looks at her, how he flirts with her. Still, I trust her. It's an odd thing to have, this feeling of trust, but I know that Candy would never betray me.
"You would probably have finished earlier if you were working at my company as my Personal Assistant. You'd be able to leave anytime you want.",
She groans. I have been trying to convince her to join my company for a year now – ever since she graduated from NYU and passed with flying colors. If she was there, I would give her any pay she desired, and of course, Daniel wouldn't be there which is an added bonus. However, she has always refused this offer.
"I told you, I don't want to work I a place where I get special treatment from my boss. How would I learn to fend for myself if you were constantly protesting me?"
I nod reluctantly. I know she is right, but I will always have that urge to protect her. I love her after all.
"So, where are we going tonight? You mentioned something about a date."
I run my hands through my hair. I had almost forgotten about that.
"Come on", I said smiling, and opening the door dramatically. "Let's get going."
"Don't I need to get changed first?"
I shake my head, and place a kiss on her forehead. "You look perfect."
She blushes, and smiles as we step out and walk into the new Rolls Royce which I bought for her as a graduation gift.
"So where are we off to?", she asks with a teasing smile. "another fast food place?"
I laugh. When we first moved to New York, we spent most of our time exploring the fast foods of the city and, gradually, I grew to enjoy burgers and milkshakes. However, that wasn't my plan for today.
"We're not doing fast food today. It's a surprise."
And with that, I continue driving. Eventually, we reach the place.
"Where are we?"
"It's still a surprise", I say, producing a blindfold. I look at her questioningly, and she nods shyly. Expertly, I blindfold her, then take her hand and lead her to the main attraction inside the park. I hold my breath as we arrive, savoring the beauty of the place. I hope she likes it – it took me forever to find it.
Then I remove the blindfold.
There is a moment of silence, and then she screams in pleasure.
"Omg, Xavier, it's beautiful."
And it is. Months of waiting and searching, but I finally found a field full of daffodils, her favorite flower, just like she told me that day in my office when she was interviewing me for a magazine. The yellow of the flowers contrasts beautifully with the gorgeous pink of the sky, and I am pleased that we got the timing perfectly.
And I am also pleased that she likes it.
I produce a picnic basket which I was holding. "I thought that we could have a little meal", I half ask, and she nods, her face still in a state of shocked wonder.
I spread the blanket on a patch of green grass, and set out the food. I prepared sandwiches, fruit salads, and a black forest cake. I know how much she loves my food. I also brought Mars chocolate bars, and when she sees them, she claps in joy like a child.
Now is the moment that has me most anxious.
As we watch the clouds, she spots an airplane. It loops around the sky performing various tricks, and she watches, enthralled.
"Did you hire him?"
I say nothing.
"Look", she squeals, clutching my arm. "It's writing something in the sky."
We watch as the plane leave a cloud of smoke to form letters.
"Will", she reads out, as the plane finishes the first letter. "You. Marry.", her voice gets lower, her eyes widening with recognition. "Me."
She turns to stare at me as I get on my knees pulling out a ring from my pocket. Her eyes get cloudy.
"Candace Greene, ever since the moment I nearly hit you with my car, I have been in love with you. You have erased the trauma of my past, and helped me so much. Candy, will you make me the happiest man on earth, and do me the honor of being my wife."
"Yes", she screams. "Yes! Yes! Yes!". She jumps on me hugging me tightly, and kisses me passionately.
Candy's POV
Two months later
"Stop fidgeting.", Linda growls at me, and I reluctantly stop moving. The dress is a bit tight, and I doubt if I can properly walk with it.
"Were you this nervous at your own wedding?", I ask Linda as she steps back to survey her work.
"I guess I was a bit nervous, but it was also much fun and of course, the after events were good too.", she said giving me a wink. "Jordan sure knows his positions."
I gag at the image. "I didn't need to know that detail."
She laughs. "Turn around, look at yourself."
I do, and gasp. I look dazzling. My makeup is light with dark eyeshadow, and my hair is curled falling down my back. However, my favorite detail is my dress. It is a long mermaid styled dress, with sequins around the bodice. I love it so much.
(These are some images of what the dress looks like)
Linda gives a satisfied smile. "I think I've done a good job on you. Xavier is going to have a hemorrhage."
She rests back gently, holding her stomach.
"Are you alright?", I ask concerned, and she smiles.
"The baby gave a kick, and I just had to sit and get myself together."
That's right. Linda and Jordan tied the knot, and in two months they are expecting a baby. So far, Linda is alright except for the cravings. Right now, she is eating a packet of chocolate.
"Stop pacing. You'll wear a hole in the carpet.", she says angrily.
"I'm just wondering", I say as I stop my absent minded walking. "And I wish that my parents were here."
Linda instantly gets sober. She knows how much my parents have refused to speak to me, and she knows that I miss them. I invited them to my wedding, but they blatantly refused.
Just then, there is a knock on the door, and Jordan pops his head in.
"Your hubby almost walked in here to see you. I had to remind him that it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding."
I smile. That is just like Xavier.
"Anyway", Jordan continues. "You have a guest. Come on in."
The door opens wider, to reveal a young woman standing in the door way with a young child. The woman is older than me but she looks so familiar.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I think it is...
"Ava?", I ask, my voice a whisper.
"Candy", she mouths silently, before running to me and tackling me with a hug.
"Oh my... how are you here?", I ask.
"Your bae tracked me. I was living in L.A and I got a message inviting me to your wedding and a picture of you. I had to come... wait, why are you looking up."
"I want to cry but I just did my makeup, and I don't want it to run.", I sniff while fanning my eyes.
Ava laughs. It sounds so familiar, and I remember that sound ringing in my childhood.
Suddenly, the child tugs her dress. "Who is this mummy?", he lisps.
"This is your aunt dear.", then she turns to me. "This is Jamie. He's my son. My husband is in the crowd. I can't believe I'm actually here.", she gasps.
"I can't believe that you are here too."
We hug again. Then Jordan opens the door. "It's show time people."
"Ava, I know it is last minute, but will you help Jordan to walk me down the aisle."
Ava's eyes fill with tears. "I would love to."
Jordan took one arm, Ava the other, and we walked into the hall which we had booked for our wedding.
***
After all the guests left, Xavier and I checked into the room which we had booked at the hotel.
"I can't believe that you found Ava.", I smile, as I hug him.
"Well Mrs Reyes, you deserve the best. And that was just one of the gifts that I had for you tonight."
I gasp as Xavier backs me against a wall. We have never had sex, even though we've had some pretty heavy makeout sessions. However, now that we are married, I am anxious to experience... this.
"I've been looking forward to taking this dress off you ever since you walked down the aisle."
Feeling bold, I smirk. "So why don't you, Mr Reyes?"
"Trust me", he says as reaches behind me for the zipper. "I'm going to do more than just take off the dress."
Thirty minutes later
Xavier and I are comfortable tangled in the bed, sweaty and resting against each other.
"How was it?", he asked, his voice a picture of concern.
I give a satisfied smile. "It was everything I dreamed it would be." He smiles happily.
I look at him shyly. "Can we do it again?"
Xavier gives a smirk. "Darling, we have the rest of our lives to do it again"
